Our sixth visit to Caroline and Nick's place. Absolutely lovely time as ever. As I have said before if you want a winter or summer holiday in a great location with excellent hosts and which the children feel is like home choose La Ruche. The food (superb), service and child care will not disappoint. Thank you again Caroline, Nick and Bea for a wonderful week in Les Carroz. We will be back promise!

Room Tip: The bathrooms in each room have recently started to be renovated so check which have been completed.

I was lucky enough to take advantage of the special January short break offer, which worked out perfectly for me and my 8 yo Daughter.
Caroline is an absolute pleasure to deal with both via email and in person. Nothing is too much trouble, and she was able to accommodate a late change of day when my work commitments changed.
The property is full of character, and the suite we stayed in had loads of space, plus a new shower room. Whilst we did not take advantage of it, I suspect that having a fridge in the room could be very useful. The boot room is large and dry, and the communal areas have plenty of space.
The food, as others have mentioned, is also a real highlight! Nick clearly has a passion for food, and cooking, and its hard not to catch his infectious enthusiasm! The children eat early, around 5.30pm (which is great, as we found in Austria last year that eating at 7pm after a busy day, was hard work), and their food is fantastic! Nick easily adapts his cooking to more simple tastes, whilst still keeping it healthy and fresh. The only problem is as an adult trying not to 'help' the kids with their food as you have a meal of your own coming later!!!
The location is also great. Les Carroz is not a ski in/out resort, but more of a proper village attached to a fantastic ski area. Having said that, if you wanted to, you could walk to a button lift that would give you access to the Gondola in about 10 minutes. We took advantage of Caroline's minibus which took us all up for the start of kids lessons every morning. There are also regular busses, and the stop is just outside the Chalet.
There is plenty to do in Les Carroz for times when you don't feel like skiing. Whilst we did not have much spare time, we did manage some sledging, and I believe there is an Ice rink in the village.
The Grand Massif ski area really does have something for everyone, and anyone who visits the area will not be disappointed, not least children who are just starting out with skiing or boarding.

I am a huge fan of the set up with La Ruche, and really hope to come again next year. Anyone skiing with children should look no further than this place, it really is ideal!

We were lucky enough to spend Christmas 2013 in the company of Nick & Caroline at La Ruche, along with some other lovely families we'd not met before. The accommodation is spot on for a family ski holiday and the atmosphere in the chalet was exceptionally welcoming. Everyone was made to feel at home as soon as they arrived.

Nick's cooking skills were second to none and it was great for the children to all eat together with the adults eating an hour or two later each night. Caroline's organisation skills were excellent and nothing was too much trouble - from arranging transfers and ski hire in advance, to sorting packed lunches, liaising with ski school and ferrying everyone the short distance to the main lift. I can't rate them highly enough.

The town of Les Carroz was very pretty and everything you could want is a mere 2 minutes walk from La Ruche. Staying over the Christmas period mean that we were treated to several events in the square during our stay, from Pappa Noel handing out sweets to Ice Queens on stills. It was all very special. For non skiers there is a fantastic pool and spa complex which although a little pricey if you only go for a short swim, is well worth it. You will need super tight speedo's to get in though - it seemed to be the law!

The ski area is ideal for those just starting out and also for those with a few trips under your belt. For those that want more challenging pistes, Flaine was easy enough to ski to and took about 20 minutes to get to on a mixture of blue and red slopes.

Two ski schools operate out of Les Carroz - ESF and ESI. We used ESI and had a number of issues which I won't bore you with. Needless to say I'd choose ESF next time.

All in all, we had an amazing week. Everything about our stay at La Ruche was just what we expected and more, with both Nick & Caroline working hard to make our Christmas away from home as great as it could be. I can't praise them enough. If you are looking to have a family ski trip away, you'd be daft not to try and book with Nick & Caroline and enjoy everything Les Carroz can offer.

Perfect place to chill in the summer in the warm mountain air of this beautiful resort. Chef Nick's superb food and him and his wife's wonderful hospitality and local knowledge made this a very restful and stress free break. Highly recommended. First time I've seen it in the summer and it did not disappoint!

I spent a week with Nick and Caroline at La Ruche, summer mountain walking with a group of UK hillwalking friends. The accommodation was just what was needed, and Nick's food delicious, the vegetarians being catered for very well too. A friendly supportive environment, with Caroline providing a lot of local know-how which helped a lot with planning routes and days out. Would highly recommend.

Our family had never been skiing before but the whole experience was amazing, with a great proportion of that down to the wonderful welcome and care Nick and Caroline provided!
The location is mind blowing, the accomodation is superb and the food is out of this world, especially the sticky toffee pudding!!
The Kids loved it, we loved it, we rebooked as soon as we could, roll on New Year!!!!

We have just returned from our sixth visit to Nick and Caroline at La Ruche and everything about this family holiday is absolutely perfect for us. Les Carroz itself is a charming little village which feeds into a wide area of good skiing at the full range of levels. We love the fact that everything is so easy and convenient for the children but the real 'star of the show' is the fantastic hospitality at La Ruche which makes us feel entirely comfortable and at home. We can genuinely relax! The food is absolutely fantastic and the arrangements for separate child and adult mealtimes are excellent. Thank you once again Nick and Caroline for a great holiday. We did not want to come home but we have already booked for next New Year.
