“Ravenscar weekend”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2013

Just had a really lovely weekend on the East Coast at Ravenscar. We stayed in the Raven Hall Hotel, which although a little shabby has the most amazing views. We had a wonderful room with 'the view' of Robin Hood's Bay. Bed was comfortable although new pillows might be nice. Clean and presentavle overall and good service. The restaurant was good with mixed reception on our part. I had chicken, which was a little dry but had a lovely sauce, my wife had pasta with a lovely sauce but overcooked through the heat of the plate. Incredible lemon pudding! Amenities are tremendous with games room, bowling, golf, tennis.......and of course the great walking on the Cleveland way and moors. We will probably go back and stay in one of the self-catering lodges. Overal good for a three star hotel, in a five star location.

Room Tip: Go for the bay view.

Just spent a weekend at the Raven Hall Hotel which has a great location overlooking Robin Hoods Bay just South of Whitby. This the 6th time I have stayed here and have always looked forward to trips, however my experience this time was disappointing. I booked through Booking.com which offered a great rate but when I checked in I realised that there was a wedding on the Saturday night. I have stayed at the hotel when they have had a wedding and it wasn't a pleasant experience. Once I realised I asked to cancel my room but as I had used Booking, com this wasn't possible - oh dear! The first night was OK although the guests were late to bed and were noisy running up and down stairs, but the night of the wedding the noise from the disco/band was incredibly loud - even though I was on the second floor!

When I checked out I told the staff about my disappointment with the hotel and I got a very quiet 'sorry'. I am sure this is great business for the hotel but at the expense of all the other guests in the hotel - there was much grumbling at breakfast.

Its a pity as the hotel has a great location but if you do book I would phone and check if they are having a wedding and make sure you can cancel if you need to. I have certainly learnt my lesson!

Room Tip: Try and get a refurbished room on the North Side as these face the bay and have fantastic views. Sou...

We went here for a relaxing family weekend away with our 2 young children, and what a great spot for it! Amazing views, comfortable rooms and leisure facilities were fantastic, kids loved the swimming pool, tennis, mini golf etc, this place has everything you need. Close to Whitby and Robin Hoods Bay which are lovely places to visit. Breakfast was delicious, we liked the fact they had buffet style and you could order a few things fresh off the menu, smoked haddock with a poached egg was my husbands choice! We went on a B&B option but wished we done the DB&B option as we ended up eating in the restaurant the 2nd night of our stay and the food was delicious, hot and good portion size. can't say much for the meal we had at a pub down the road the previous night! All in all this is a great hotel with friendly welcoming staff, we'd recommend to anyone!

My wife and I very much enjoyed a wonderful romantic one-night stay at this excellent hotel.

The staff were superb in pulling out all the stops in helping us celebrate our first wedding anniversary, and the location really is breathtaking. A stunning approach, building, grounds and views, and the 3 course dinner was absolutely delicious.

The rooms and some of the interior design might appear a tad dated, and the walls of the bedrooms are not sound proof, but contrary to some reviews on this site, there are really no grounds to complain and we both thought that those criticisms simply added to the timeless charm of the place.

We shall most certainly return.

Highly recommended.

Went here for my nieces wedding. What a fab venue set in stunning grounds. Views across the bay to Robin Hood Bay. We stayed in one of the lodges and the view from the patio is over the water. Watching the sun rise was lovely.
Also the wedding food was great, hot and tasty - I just love crunchy veg.
The grounds provide an interesting place to stroll although if you cannot mange steps and slopes look elsewhere. Lots of nooks and crannies with sea views.
Didn't test the leisure facilities

Room Tip: Lodges across from the main hotel have sea view patios and table & chairs if making your own bre...

After a tough time we decided to have a "posh night" away and chose the Raven Hall Hotel. It was wonderful. The views are unbelievable, facilities were first class and staff couldn't do enough.
Our room : We stayed on the top floor in a room that had seaviews from all windows. The bed was massive and so comfy. Linen was spotless and soft. The bathroom was clean and recently modernised with massive bath and power shower. The toiletries were ideal and there was even a little sewing kit to take home. The towels were big and fluffy.
The hotel: The hotel is large with lots of comfy leather sofas making the most of the lovely views. The dining room was well spaced with a huge window overlooking a breathtakingly beautiful bay. There is a small pool and sauna and a games room if the weather is poor or you want to do something different
The food: We stayed dinner, bed and breakfast and I cannot complain at all. The dinner menu was varied and came piping hot and beautifully presented. Portions were just right and all the vegetables were crunchy. Breakfast was vast. The choice was good and everything was freshly cooked - scarmbled eggs to order.
The service : The staff are brilliant. They cannot do enough to help without being in your face all the time. Nothing was too much trouble.
The grounds : The hotel is set in extensive grounds on the cliff top surrounded by castle battlements. The walk round is well worth doing. The views are amazing. If you want something extra to do there are tennis courts, a croquet lawn and a golf course.
Only criticism was the small car park. we had to park on the grass but it wasn't really a problem.
We will certainly make another visit. Afternoon tea looked amazing.

Room Tip: Ask for a seaview room. Top floor is very quiet but lift only goes to second floor but its only a sm...

This is our second stay here which we once again enjoyed. The hotel is set in the most stunning location, in beautiful grounds with breathtaking views. The hotel itself is full of charm and all the staff without exception were friendly and accommodating. The reception rooms are comfortable, spacious with lots of leather sofas, wood panelling and a feeling of history. The interior is a little worn in places but it all adds to the charm and everywhere is clean. There was a faint aroma of wood smoke, I guess the huge fire place in the lounge is used in winter and with the wind blowing in off the North Sea I can imagine being snuggled up on one of the comfy sofas with a coffee. Our room was front facing and had super views. It was clean and modern and had lots of nice touches. We had afternoon tea which was lovely before walking around the cliff side pathways. The Dinner menu was limited with some interesting food combinations, there was however extensive vegetarian options and the crisp linen and nice glass wear in a dining room with views to die for made for a pleasant evening. There is a small pool which we enjoyed, a games room with table tennis, table football and pool and two tennis courts, croquet as well as a challenging, steep and blustery 9 hole course. This hotel is not your modern city hotel, gourmet cuisine, packed with apple technology and latest gizmos (although there was good free wifi) - it is a hotel with old fashioned charm, sweeping staircase and comfort at its heart, and oh did I mention the stunning stunning location and wonderful gardens overlooking Robin Hoods Bay!!!

Room Tip: Must ask for a sea view - stunning
