“Relaxing break”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2014

We stayed for two nights at Raven Hall in March and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The building is old (18th century) which adds to the experience of the stay.
We paid a little extra for a 'Bay View' and it was worth it, stunning view!!!
Good menus for breakfast and dinner and the food was cooked well and presented well.
The view from the restaurant adds to the enjoyment of the dinning. A little cosmetic work needed here and there but nothing to detract from a relaxing stay.
We would defiantly book again. Excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Ask if there is a room with a bay view.

Well worth the £10 a night extra for a bay view . Stunning on a clear day. Only downside was the pool quite small so had a good walk instead as we were lucky enough to have beautiful weather. Really relaxing atmosphere.

We had trouble with this hotel as two days before we was due fo leave they rang us and said the hotel was double booked and there was no rooms avaible.
Well after much agro they upgraded us to a four poster bed suite even though there was no rooms!

The hotel is lovely rooms are nice a littled dated but are warm and cosy and you get a good nights sleep.

Pool area is lovely and clean and usually empty!
Brekfast waa divine having a full english and options for other choices!
A dinner will cost 16.20 each! For one course but it is really nice!

All in all the hotel is lovely with amazing views jusy our booking problem took the shine of it!

We booked into this hotel at short notice having glimpsed a couple of reviews on a ropey internet connection in Whitby. We stayed on a Monday night in early February, as low season goes it probably doesn't go any further. Both my partner and I spent our youth in the 80s working in hotels and we both had flashbacks on stepping into the hotel. In fairness, we paid £50 for B&B and for that we got much more value than we would have got in a Travel Lodge. The staff were very helpful and welcoming and the hotel had an air of people making themselves comfortable. The surroundings are superb and views aplenty. Our room was large and reasonably well appointed circa. 1989, albeit with a large LCD tv. We could have forgiven the retro charm, but for the rather dodgy four poster bed that whilst comfortable, creaked alarmingly. The restaurant was pretty uninspiring and breakfast pretty limp compared with the fare that most boutique-style B&Bs serve nowadays. The hotel has a small pool that is big enough for two people to have a quick dip and there seems to be a range of sports equipment and activities on offer, unlike many it was refreshing to see that no charge was made for this. The hotel has been through a number of reincarnations over the years, but part of its charm seems to be an old fashioned sense that you could book in for a week and entertain yourselves around the hotel in a fairly genteel fashion.

Room Tip: A lot of rooms may have a sea view, or at list mist! Avoid a four poster bed room unless you have a...

We stayed here on a Sunday night having only booked the previous day. I must say the place is in a spectacular setting. We had a room with a sea view on the second floor, having arrived in the dark the view in the morning was breathtaking. as mentioned the room was a little dated, but we had an excellent sleep and plenty of hot water for the excellent shower, what more do you need. Breakfast was excellent I had a full English, the other half kippers both cooked to perfection. The next day we walked over to Robin Hoods Bay and back, about a 9 mile walk but well worth it. I would have given it 5 stars were it not a little dated, but don't let that little cosmetic flaw put you off. excellent attentive staff, and we should have eaten there on Sunday night as opposed to the Falcon on the main road. I'd recommend it

Although the location is a bit isolated, the views towards Robin Hoods Bay are stunning, especially from the restaurant. Our Saturday night stay coincided with a wedding party but there were no problems with late night noise, as we had feared. The all-inclusive breakfast was excellent (veggie sausages to order) and the evening meal was also good

The room was spacious, clean, comfortable and quiet but in need of refurbishment, especially the bathroom which definitely needs modernising. Everything worked though and as we got a half-price late deal, it was good value. Full price would have been too much

The service was exceptional. Although most of the staff appeared to be Eastern European, they were polite, attentive and nothing was too much trouble, day or night

The car park was full and I saw one poor woman who had got her car stuck in the mud beyond the end of the gravel parking area. More hard-standing area is required

Room Tip: Room 209 is probably the quietest as it is at the far end on the second floor with two windows

I stayed here over the weekend with my husband and our dog in Lodge 1, the view from the balcony just took my breath away, it is amazing. The lodge is well equipped with free wifi and the log burning stove made up daily, a spotlessly clean bathroom (the floorplan on the website showed a bath but the lodge didn't have one). The cooking facilities included a George Foreman Grill, a plug in hob which didn't heat well, a microwave and a toaster. I think it would be better to ditch most of the items apart from the toaster and kettle which would encourage guests to take breakfast in the hotel, they had a 2 for 1 offer which was very reasonable.

The only tiny tiny niggle was we booked a table in the restaurant for Saturday night but on looking at the menu earlier in the day, we cancelled due to a very limitied menu and went to the Victoria Hotel in Robin Hoods Bay where we had a superb meal at a fraction of the cost.
We were disappointed at having to go elsewhere as the lunch menu at Ravenhall looked superb.

This is a beautiful hotel in a beautiful position and we will return and soon!
