We recently stayed at Raven Hall Hotel due to attending a wedding, and we booked one of the "eco lodges" in advance. There is a very rugged, masculine quality to the beauty of Raven Hall and the surrounding area. Staying in the eco lodge was an absolute pleasure - the views were break-taking on waking in the morning, with large patio-style doors giving what felt-like panoramic views of the coastline and golf-course nestled just below the building.
Inside the cabin we were pleased to find more than just a "kitchenette" - there were tools provided to make almost any dish you would desire, the only thing that would hinder cooking-up anything too complicated would be the workspace, but for a quick bacon sandwich or toast in the morning the kitchen space was ideal - very modern and clean.

We were also thrilled to have use of a wood-burning stove in the lodge, which produced a lovely heat and light, providing a relaxing and romantic atmosphere whilst the wild winds were sweeping through the moors below us.

We opted for a three course meal on the first night we stayed, and I can't say I was overly impressed by the dishes we received, given the price - but it was a delight to sit in the relaxed and welcoming dining room which again, had stunning views of the coastline below.

Overall we had a lovely time at Raven Hall and I would definitely consider visiting again, this time with our daughter, because the lodges would make an ideal space for staying with children.

(My last note is that you most definitely need a car to stay here, but if you're lucky enough to have your own transport many wonderful sights are close-by via car)

Room Tip: The eco lodges are modern, clean and private - have fantastic views of the coastline and golf course...

It made sense to come the night before - I arrived on the Sunday and met up with a friend who shared a twin room with me. We were able to visit Whitby and on the day of my conference she was able to use the facilities and to lounge about in the lovely public rooms. The view across the bay is stunning and the food was excellent. The room was extremely clean, warm and cosy. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.

Room Tip: Facing the bay

We had a pleasant night at this hotel which had been recommended for its great view. The evening meal was well presented with fairly large portions and served by pleasant staff but the choices were limited and perhaps reflected the needs of the older guests. The bedroom was grand in size but the bathroom looked jaded and the shower control didn't work. They are altering rooms so maybe it's on the list. The swimming pool was disappointingly small for adults but okay for a splash with children. We had a game of table tennis with worn out bats but actually the whole swimming pool and games area needs a refurbish. To be fair it's still a nice place to visit for a short break but only average for the price.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights in April. realised it was a hotel for the older person, which made the atmosphere a bit drab. the best part about the stay was the breakfasts, excellent service and food. Hotel was clean but just lacked atmosphere. Our room was 124. it was clean but a bit shabby, needed a good coat of paint and a spruce up. The bathroom was a bit smelly when we first arrived and was not as clean as it should have been. The door knob fell off on arrival and when we left it was still in the same place as it fell !!! the grounds and location of the hotel were excellent. would not recommend this hotel to the younger couple, but I can see why old people would like it.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay at this traditional Hotel which was in a beautiful location on the North Yorkshire Moors and with a view of Robins Hood's Bay. Unfortunately, whilst we were there we had the smog from Europe which meant that visibility was very poor and we couldn't see the beautiful view from our room at all. Ironically, the smog lifted the day we left! Our room was very spacious, comfortable and very clean but lacked the luxury touches we were expecting from a Hotel of this calibre - e.g. there could have been bottles of water in the room, bath robes, herbal teas (which were available in the dining room but not in our room) and better quality shampoo, shower gel, etc. Breakfasts were quite good but could have been better. Staff were very pleasant and friendly and we would definitely return again hopefuly without the smog!

Room Tip: We had room 202 which had a nice view over Robin Hoods Bay.

Stayed at Raven Hall over the Easter weekend, fabulous break. If you want swish stylish minimalist then this is not the hotel for you. However if you want fantastic service from friendly staff, good food, clean rooms, piping hot water and a location to die for, then this is the hotel for you. We stayed on bed, breakfast and dinner basis, which was good value for money. The breakfasts are lovely, plenty of choice and well cooked, whilst the evening meals are well cooked with a good choice, and we had no complaints about the portion sizes...more than adequate for two hearty appetites. We were given a large bay windowed room, with a breath-taking view along the coast towards Robin Hoods Bay. Extra special as I hadn't booked a sea view room. Of course the weather played its part...fantastic. As walkers we really appreciated the hotels location, directly on the Cleveland Way, it really has a prime location, and the view from the dining room is firstclass. A lovely touch was an Easter Egg in the room, nice touch, we enjoyed it whilst sitting watching the view. Yes the hotel does need updating and sprucing up in some areas, however what matters is they have got brilliant staff, a clean warm and welcoming hotel, good food, and a location that is pretty much perfect. Would we go back...a big yes. Thank you to all the staff (who unbeknown to them) made our Ruby Wedding celebration such a success.

Room Tip: 201 has a fantastic view over the coast towards Robin Hoods Bay
