Limited opening hours - but very good food. Belen's tiramisu is to die for! Book for Sunday lunch or you won't get in.

I have been going to the "Venta Veleta" (as it was) now "Cortijo Veleta" for about 15 years.
Much earlier you either sat outside with the hens running around your feet, or inside, with
swallows on the ceiling.
The extension has modernised everything and it is well worth a visit - Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays only.
Food is of the land, well prepared, in goodly quantities and not expensive. The owner and the waitress are both charming, and treat you as guests and not as customers. For non-meat eaters
there is some fish, but the pork and, particularly, the goat, are beautifully cooked.

Our meal at Cortijo Veleta was simply marvellous, and made even better for the lovely setting and service. The lady who served us all night was just lovely, we assume (I think correctly) that she was the lady of the farmhouse and she clearly did all the cooking and serving of food and drinks (the boys of the farm were all drinking at the bar when we arrived, having a whale of a time) We had free appetizers which were deep fried aubergines which you dipped in the most wonderful Malaga honey (black treacle consistency), we then had starters of meat and cheese on quince and pate, perfectly sized servings I might add. Then we all had steak or lamb...both were exquistely seasoned and cooked. Excellent. The desserts were huge, and afterwards a wonderful apertif of some sort of fortified wine. My companions drank huge quantities of the house red (I was told it was superb) and the homemade sangria was amazing, very strong (plenty of rum or brandy or something in it). Overall, we felt like we had been invited into this womans house and were just having a feast of a dinner at a good friends. A lovely experience and highly recommended!
