We just spent 3 nights at Foutainhead and we were delighted with our stay.

The suite (we stayed in the Indian) was very well appointed, the individual suite terrace was very comfortable, furnished with many chairs as well as a plunge pool. Above all the food was excellent. Helen produces original dishes with delicate contrasting flavours and both the lunch of tapas and dinner were something to look forward to.

It is an ideal venue for a short break away, being within easy reach of Malaga airport but at the same a tranquil venue isolated in the hills.

Relaxed; tranquil; bohemian; gastronomic; welcoming – all adjectives that can justly be applied to Fountainhead. I discovered this place online and the website was full of seductive images that convinced me that it was the ideal retreat destination for my partner & I and friends, escaping the people, traffic and noise of the costas.
Marketed and positioned as “chic retreat” as well as a “gastro destination”, I felt that this would be the perfect place to unwind in nature, without giving up the comforts of a boutique hotel. I overall it was a very successful choice.
The restaurant was one of the high points and our experience was superb. The delicious, innovative dishes professional prepared and beautifully presented by Helen, the co-owner and award-winning chef at Fountainhead and served with genuine warmth by her husband Peter. Dinner was a real highlight of each of our lazy days!
Arriving on the Friday, for a three night break, in the height of summer, we were grateful for the warm, dry mountain breeze, providing a welcome break from the humidity of the coast from where we’d driven.
The local village Riogordo was celebrating its annual summer Feria the when we came, so a few streets were closed for the parties, making getting to the retreat a little tricky. Yet after a quick call to Helen, we were swiftly “rescued” by Peter, her husband and led up out of the village and down the long rustic track leading to the property. The first thing you notice are the panoramic views across the valley….and then the peace.
The property has a charm and tranquility that embraces you on arrival. The rooms (we chose the Sultan and the Indian) were more like small apartments, with open plan living, dining and kitchen, separate bedroom and ensuite bathroom. The decoration is certainly eccentric and eye-catching. An eclectic collection of art and ornaments combine with mix and match furniture, some of which they’ve decorated and painted, giving the place a bohemian feel. There is nothing that might make you think you are staying a regular, run of the mill hotel room. This is an experience.
For me the place had a more homespun and welcoming-style than chic and luxurious. Although I understand this is their first proper season, the property appeared older, and in places was a little tired looking and a few fixtures and fittings looked a little worn. The lush bamboo and palms shown in the publicity shots were in reality showing the signs of the unrelenting heat of an Andalucian summer, whilst the odd wall needed painting.
However the bathrooms had recently been upgraded and had thick, fluffy cotton robes, tissues, talc, plenty of towels and homemade Fountainhead Life spa toiletries.
Personal touches and attention to detail are everywhere in the suites, from the CD player with CDs, binoculars for watching wildlife, fresh flowers, scented candles and of course a fully stocked fridge bursting with a selection of goodies including home made marmalade and freshly squeezed juice for breakfasts, as well as fresh fruit, home made yoghurt, Spanish hams and sausages, Cava, & more.
Each morning one of Peter & Helen’s children would pop down to the suites, delivering a basket of warm, freshly prepared croissants & breads, some filled with chocolate or spiced cinnamon.
In fact it was this concept of real “freedom food” that was so appealing to me. We could prepare are own breakfasts and lunches in our suite apartments, enjoy them on the terrace or order from the room service menu or simply stroll up to the restaurant. What better than lounging on a sun-drenched terrace reading, and then being bale to walk into your suite and make yourself a V & T?
The Bathhouse is a new addition, offering a remarkable peaceful place for a massage or a floating meditation in the huge bath. We had massages and used the bathhouse and both come recommended.
Despite the odd example of poor maintenance or an incongruous detail like the two plastic plants in the otherwise elegant restaurant, our weekend at Fountainhead was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable I have enjoyed at a hotel in Andalucia. This is a perfect place to escape too. It truly offers freedom to do what you want when you want combined with privacy and tranquility - a winning combination in my mind.

I was looking for a romantic weekend getaway and so booked Fountainhead through anamazinghotel.com who were incredibly helpful in coming up with suggestions to make our stay even more memorable. The hotel was lovely. You arrive and feel immediately relaxed by the lazy spanish countryside, but that is just a backdrop for a really special place where every need has been thought of, your privacy is total and the food is really exceptional. We both said how fantastic the cuisine and the wine selection were. The new bathouse was wonderful and highly recommended! All in all a truly great place to get away from it all.

What a wonderful place! It's a hidden gem!
Hidden in the mountains of Malaga, we found this amazing place. Just 4 rooms, each with its own private plunge pool. Total privacy, no noise, great dining, amazing views! Fresh, warm bread and croissant are delivered to your room each morning. The owners are very kind and helpful. It's the perfect place to forget the rest of the world and relax, relax and relax!
