Last minute plans meant looking for a reasonably priced overnight possibility in or near Selby. After 24 hours unsuccessful searching, we were able to take advantage of a last minute cancellation. Every single member of staff could not have been more accomodating nor helpful, the breakfast sumptuous, internet reception available and as good as at home. We were in the main building and were asked the next morning if the late-night revellers had disturbed us.- what revellers ??? !! We dined there in the evening - good grilled food, varied and good portions. The area around there is so pretty - it's only a shame that we don't go to that part of the country more often as I would love to have the opportunity to stay there again.

Stayed here for one night whilst visiting family in the area. Little to complain about - the room was fine, the breakfast pretty good, no specific problems or issues. Stairs were a little exhausting, but that is a reflection on my fitness only! Not particularly cheap for the room or beer. The restaurant was clearly popular, pretty full all the time we were there...

Lets start with the plus points - Decent pub, not bad food, decent choice of beers, service ok.

Accommodation - Average at best, not clean, and if you want a good nights sleep avoid, awoken by a hoover or something similar first thing and could hear everything from the other rooms. Disappointing.

Breakfast - Disaster, Tables and all areas generally not clean, fruit smelled of fish, couldn't eat, avoided the cooked breakfast because of this.

Stayed for one night and the room was excellent, great size, very clean, free wi-fi, big TV on wall and perfect for my disabled partner. The staff in the bar and restaurant are very friendly nothing is too much trouble for them!prices for food and drink is very reasonable . The evening meal we ad was spot on and the breakfast very nice with choices for everyone.

Couldn't be bothered to cook so nipped in here for a spot of dinner. It was nice...good pub food and not a bad price either. Staff were very friendly and the food was at our table in good time. We didn't stay so I cant comment on the condition of the rooms.

We have used the Owl on a couple of occasions when visiting relatives who live in Thorpe Willoughby. Have had rooms in the main building which are OK but his time we were given a room in the Annex (or “Lodge” as the hotel calls it). Sorry to say we were not impressed at all. The room described as an “Executive Double Room” on the booking site was tiny, so small that the wardrobe blocked the window and there was barely anywhere to put the suitcase. In the bathroom they have used he cheapest of fittings; a horrible flimsy toilet seat, a bath which flexed when you stood in it, mildew on the tiles around the bath and a sink with broken fittings so the plug didn’t work. The bed was lumpy and uncomfortable and the walls are so thin that it’s like sharing the bed with the people in the next room, we could literally hear every word they were saying. It’s a shame the room was so bad because the breakfast was nice and the staff are lovely, genuinely friendly and helpful.

It’s not expensive at £73 for bed and breakfast but there are certainly better hotels for the same money.
