Stayed this weekend at the White Cliffs Hotel for a walking weekend with friends and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful but the best part of the stay was the food! Which was amazing. Ok room slightly dated but clean and comfortable. We will definitely be back and recommend it to our family and friends. Just delightful.

Nice place for a short break. Well situated in the village and a nice walk down to the bay and along the cliffs. Hotel is a bit tired around the edges but comfortable/good friendly atmosphere and the food is good but limited choices of desserts and a good bar snacks (loved the chorizo/fried bread). Couple of issues, but didn't detract form our overall stay, but these are things that could easily be remedied. We stayed in Room 5/White Horses which was a good size room and well serviced. However there was no remote for the TV - had to ask. Shower was at best pathetic (nice big bath though and plenty of hot water). And we had water coming through the ceiling from the bathroom above - informed the hotel but allegedly an ongoing issue with dodgy connection on the overflow pipe (top tip - fix it rather than provide us with a bucket). Also door was abit difficult to lock - all these things could be fixed with a bit of TLC. Staff were very friendly and accomodating - but found it a bit unproffesional when some were in the bar Saturday afternoon discussing merits of other members of staff for the customers to overhear. Not withstanding that nice couple of days away, plenty of parking and good/free wifi.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are away from the road

Thanks ever so much for your feedback and your helpful plumbing tips too.

As a kid I grew up at Wallett's Court (our other hotel just up the road) now, that place had issues! Plumbing issues!

Wallett's Court is a Jacobean manor that my folks rescued from dereliction, when I first lived there aged around 7 years old at the first sign of rain I would race around the place armed with pots and pans, buckets and anything else that would catch the rain water that found it's way in through the holes in the ancient roof.

It took us some time to afford to fix the roof as my dad was a humble chef and my mum brought us up at the same time as restoring the manor house. It also took sometime to find where the rain was getting in…

Here's my point. In a 500 year old building with nooks and crannies and at times pretty surreal plumbing and piping running through the place thanks to the oddball efforts of previous custodians of this lovely old place it's sometimes not the easiest task to actually find where a leak is coming from.

I always have a little smile when running up the stairs to put a bucket under a dripping beam. Then go about the job of fixing the fault. In this instance last weekend it took a while to identify and fix.

We've also had a look at the door lock and popped a squirt of oil in it. Job done! Oh, and we're awaiting the delivery of some fab new TVs complete with a whole heap of new remotes for you all to accidentally pop in your suitcases. ;-)

With regards to the chances of over-hearing conversations in the bar, yes you will find off duty team members do come back in and enjoy the lively buzz of the bar at the heart of the village along with a bunch of happy locals who regularly come in for a pint and a chat.
We all love a bit of a chit-chat so please do feel free to join in local life.

Thanks ever so much once again for the feedback. It really helps us get it right next time.

This was a great short stay for visiting the white cliffs which are a short drive away. Stylish decor. Rooms in adjoining buildings with easy access to main hotel. Extra car parking behind the hotel. Lovely bar area with great snacks and a restaurant adjoining it. Food was nothing special and service was slow considering the restaurant was rather empty as we ate early. Staff friendly and helpful.

Room Tip: The rooms in the separate buildings are quiet and just next to the main building.

We stayed here over easter holiday for three days we complained that the room was very noisy and COLD. They said they were full and could not move us so I thought fine we will have another night of no sleep fortunately my son who we were visiting got another hotel for us. The room had broken light fittings and paper peeling off the floor and ceiling. But the worse thing was no customer service do not stay here I think the owners think because only hotel in St Margarets they can Do What they Want CHARGE a lot of money for a very bad expensive room plus breakfast is extra we thought we would try this hotel for a change we usually stay at Holm Oaks fantastic B and B real value for money sorry we did not go back as we are tired and glad to get home

Room Tip: Not in main house

Crikey, it looks like we really upset someone here. As you can see from all the other happy reviews this isn't how we roll…

The place is fully centrally heated and every room has radiators with thermostatic valves so every guest can control the temperature in their own rooms. On checking these guests in I did point this out as the room was at the time quite warm. There are also extra electric heaters in the bottom of the wardrobe of every room and others available on request. There are also spare blankets in every room. Even in the depths of winter we don't seem to have problems with the cold so at Easter it's a bit of a mystery why anyone would feel chilly.

We've had a jolly good look at the room in question and can't seem to find the peeling wallpaper oddly that is mentioned on the floor? We must admit that above the bath in a corner there was a little lining paper a few millimetres out of place, that issue is now resolved. Also we've looked at the light fittings and there's nothing to report there.

On to noise… The place is at the heart of a lovely village and at times there is a lively buzz around the place but usually things are all pretty peaceful later on. We close the bar downstairs at elevenish. We are in the process of adding extra soundproofing to some rooms, so things will be getting better. It's also worth mentioning that this time of year the dawn chorus is loud, the place is surrounded by some big trees and the birds love to roost in them and welcome the rising sun.

With regards to finding another hotel, we are lucky enough to have a spare one... Wallett's Court is our sister hotel just up the road and we did help to arrange an alternative room there at a significantly discounted rate.

We will always put our hands up if we get things wrong and try to make things better at the time and we always always react to feedback to ensure we get it right next time.

As a last minute idea we booked for a Saturday night. We had a great time - the hotel staff were very warm, friendly and attentive, the food great and our room was clean and very comfy. We loved it so much that we are going back in 2 weeks!
