The Smugglers is quite unassuming from the outside but the small restaurant at the back is quite charming. There were eight of us altogether, staying in St Margarets Bay, all with quite different tastes and opinions about what makes a good meal. The food at The Smugglers was absolutely delicious. It was all freshly cooked, and well presented and served by the owner and staff who were attentive and very keen to please. We spoke to other guests who like us had been to other recommended places which were not a patch on The Smugglers. Like us they had decided good taste had meant that they too were coming back each night. The menu was varied and I would recommend looking at their website. They do get booked up quickly though.

FOllowing finding nothing except Morrisons for lunch we sued Trip Advisor to find a venue for evening meal. Reviewd seemed good and we gave it a try.

Arrived early and without reservation and we were fitetd in to what seemed a full service. The menu options were extensive, maybe too so and not always produced by the kitchen, and food reasonable. The belly pork was fatty and I suspect from frozen but the vegetables were good and well prepared. Ambience was good and portions good. My children failed to finish the meals and we were unable to sample the deserts.

Dover seems a poor location for a decent family meal and this restaurant was reasonable if expensive. Choose menu carefully.

We arrived without reservations. The village seems small but on a Saturday night the Smuggers Inn on High Street was booked with celebrations but the staff fitted us in. Our shared appetizer of deep fired brie was enjoyable and the shared pizza was excellent. Lovely pub.

The staff here were excellent from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. We ate in the bar area which was quaint enough, but I think the restaurant would have been better. The food was of outstanding quality and plenty of it - although my Aunt thought it was pricey! Would definitely go back

Our friends in Dover booked us all in for Sunday lunch May Bank Holiday weekend. We booked for1.30 but arrived early. We were offered our table but decided to sit in the back garden and enjoy the sunshine. And that's where we stayed all afternoon. Sunday lunch roast is not to be missed. Our landlady was so attentive and the waitresses were great. Considering how busy they were we were not neglected. The food was fresh and tasty and there was plenty to go around and we were stuffed. Portion control - whatever! We will be back.
