Dining options: Dinner, Lunch, Reservations
Description: A luxurious menu of modern British cuisine has made the restaurant within the ancient manor house hotel of Wallett's Court in Dover a sumptuous destination in its own right. Robust, inventive flavouring abounds, with accomplished and gutsy cooking producing dishes such as confit of sea bass with sticky port shallots and caramelised noisette potatoes or breast of Gressingham duck with ginger and spring onion rösti. There is a predominantly French wine list, with Sunday lunch and party menu options.

Nice dinner very well presented but only potato option on menu was chips. Had to ask if there was an alternative and was then given new potatos.

We found Walletts Court by chance en route to St Margarets Bay and stopped for afternoon tea. As it was a Birthday treat we decided on the 'Celebration Afternoon Tea' with champagne, although expensive (£23 each - ouch!) everything was freshly prepared and served on fine bone china. Our table was in the conservatory which overlooked the very pretty garden complete with Tipi, which apparently you can stay in, there is also a spa and rooms situated around a lovely courtyard. The staff were friendly and helpful. Walletts Court is listed in the Doomsday book and dates back to 1067, lots of history and a lovely restored fine historic building, worth a visit for a special occasion.

We have started our holiday for the last 10 years by having a meal here. What a disappointment it was this year! Food was really disappointing, for example the Romney Lamb dish contained 4 small pieces and a very flat potato base. As a starter it would be fine, as a main not good enough. Also there was no way to order extra vegetables, so you cannot add to the course.

In previous visits we were given chocolates with a caffeteria of coffee, this time only given a cup of coffee.

They also had a trainee waiter serving who did not know how to lay the table.

So please stop all the little chef's little dishes and ensure that the actual courses are back to prevous years' standard!

Now, this place (unlike its sister hotel nearby) is excellent and the food, rooms and everything about it are fantastic. Not the cheapest but who cares...go on spoil yourself and that someone special!

Nice pool and spa (free for hotel guests) and if you dont want to stay in the main house, try a wigwam!
