“Lunch time”
Reviewed 25 November 2012

Stopped for a coffee and lunch for a business meeting. Ambience nice good decor but cold the lounge is freezing and the windows very draughty
Quality of food for lunch was really average , dry bread sandwiches so not good value
Thinks some double glazing , a porch in front of reception and some heat required.

Stayed here for one night In October, as we were going to a wedding at the nearby Salmesbury Hall. The staff were great, check in very easy, and the room was a good size, with a lovely view over the river. Our room had an extra single bed in it as well as our double bed, but was no bigger than a standard room, which made it feel quite cramped. Also the lighting in the room wasn't great, the lights all had dard red/orange shades which meant it was difficult to get any birghtness outside of the bathroom. Bathroom was well-appointed, if a little dated.

We pre-paid for breakfast the next day. Went down about an hour before the end of service, and for the first time ever in a hotel, we had to wait for a table. I think it was about 20 minutes. The selection was good, ordered some hot food then went up to the buffet, but it did take ages for our hot food to arrive, which was a disappointment.

Not bad overall, the staff try hard, but a few simple things could make it a lot better.

We have stayed at this hotel a few times over the years and have seen it improve quite a lot. On this occassion we were meeting up with our son to celebrate my birthday.
As usual the staff were friendly and welcoming and the room was comfortable and clean. Our problems occurred in the restaurant. Two of the three meals we ordered were unavailable and at breakfast the following morning the chef had run out of sausages for his full English breakfast. It is obvious that something is going awry in the kitchen and I hope they rectify the problem soon.
It would not put us off staying again, but we may eat out next time

We visited this restaurant yesterday evening, the main reason was that it accepted my 'Tastecard' which gave me 50% of the food bill!
The place was very quiet, not surprising as the hotel caters mainly for business types staying during the working week.
We had drinks whilst we perused the menu and finally settled breads with oil and balsamic vinegar followed by their haddock and hand cut chips, with a side order of 'seasonal vegetables'.
Staff were very attentive and all went well until the main course arrived!
This was served in a wire basket approximately 7cm x 16 cm placed on an oblong plate placed on an oblong wooden platter, the vegetables were served in a separate side dish.
The problem was two fold, firstly the fish was placed on top of the chips, it was difficult to cut either due the wire base of the basket, pieces of food inevitably found their way out of the basket on to the table as the plate and platter were not much bigger than the wire basket itself, plus there was nowhere to put the vegetables, they had to be eaten out of their own dish, maybe that's the way it's done these days!
The second problem was that the combined height of the platter, plate and wire basket put the food some 5 or 6 cm above the table, while this may not seem a lot it did mean that I had to adopt a 'cocked wrist' approach in order to reach my food which became a little painful after a while.
I have to say that the food itself was of excellent quality and tasted superb, it is a pity this aspect of the meal was spoiled for the sake of style over practicality.
I will eat here again as the food was good but I will remember to ask for a plate large enough to accomodate the food next time!

Room Tip: Just a restaurant review, sorry!
