The Dolwen cottage was in a very little hamlet and was extremely quiet, the loudest sound was the sparrows quarrelling. There were house martins nesting in the garage and they swooped in and out regularly. The house was all on one floor so was a bit of a walk from one end to the other. All electric with storage heaters and when the weather turned chilly we did use the extra heating. All the mirrors in the bathrooms were set far too high for me, at 5 ft 4 in I could hardly see myself. It could do with some hooks on the back of the bedroom doors and some mirrors in the bedrooms. but apart from that, it was very comfortable. We were met on arrival by a very friendly neighbour who let us in and showed us round. It did have lots of little picture framed instructions everywhere. The dishwasher was installed in the scullery which was a little bit irritating having to take dirty crockery out of the kitchen to fill the dishwasher and then back again to put it all away. I would book this property again.
The welcome from Del was lovely, just like meeting old friends. Communication was a slight problem due to a variable mobile signal but we got there without difficulty. (Thanks Del)
Dolwen is spacious, warm and comfortable, situated adjacent to open countryside where red kites soar and sheep "baaa" contentedly. A moderately wet week meant we spent some time relaxing indoors, pouring over the great selection of informative books and literature.
To be honest, the decor and furnishings wouldn't suit those who like a modern style but it was traditional and homely, possibly in need of a little updating here and there.
The countryside in Mid Wales is quite wonderful and traffic almost absent, making it a great base from which to explore.
A very enjoyable week, thank you.
Dolmen is situated in a quiet hamlet in one of the most beautiful parts of Wales.
A spacious well designed property with great views and close to nature.
We have a disabled son and he found it easy to move around.
Well worth getting up early to see the sunrise over the hills.
Lots of birdlife and morning chorus a joy to be heard.
Fast wi-fi, 10 minutes into Rhayader which has lots of eating places and shops.
We highly recommend Dolwen and will return.
enjoyed the stay. close to the elan valley estate which is very scenic. del and her husband were pleasant and helpful. the hamlet is nice and quiet so it made a welcome change from London. rooms were clean and adequately spacious.
My family and myself had an amazing time celebrating the New Year in this fantastic cottage. Large enough for all of us to stay comfortably and set in the most perfect location for any family getaway. The cottages location feels rural and secluded while the cottage is still close enough to amenities and most importantly a good coffee shop. Overall our stay at Dolwen cottage was fantastic and we would defiantly recommend the cottage to friends.
