Stayed for two nights. Good base for walking the Elan valley and seeing all the Dams. Our room was nice, clean and comfortable with a TV and room service if you wanted it. The hotel restaurant and bar provided a good range of meals which were good value for money. This was great if you had been out walking for the day and did not want to venture out, everything you need is on site for a relaxing stay. The breakfast was excellent with a wide choice. There was lots of choice at breakfast and dinner for vegetarians which was nice to see. Staff were friendly and helpful, we will go back again as it was good value for money.

Stayed at the Elan Valley for one night, during a work 'tour of Wales'. My colleague and I were encouraged to choose it by the reviews on TripAdvisor, and I would definitely agree with the positive comments from others here. It's three miles out of Rhayader, a little off the beaten track but great as a base for exploring the Elan Valley and Mid Wales.

This is a family run, simple hotel but we found the service friendly. Rooms are lovely and the setting is pretty and peaceful (friendly dogs next door if you like that sort of thing!) We had dinner at the hotel and I was impressed by the range and quality of the menu (I had tenderloin of pork which was delicious). The co-owner is a vegetarian which is reflected in the menu. There's also a bar menu which is available as room service too, with a £5 tray charge.

Above all, the hotel offers great value for money; my night's stay, with a good two-course dinner, came to £67. It has meeting facilities so it's worth considering for work events. And they do packed lunches, and fill your flask for £1.50! Not that I, er, have a flask, but I liked the idea...

The food was nice, locals lovely, but the staff were amongst the rudest I have ever come across in the service industry, and the service was shocking. Rooms ok aswell, owners werent all that nice either

a quiet, very clean, small country hotel. A warm welcome., including from the locals when we ate dinner in the bar. The restaurant was full, but they said they'd make space if necessary, but we opted for the bar instead. Copious amounts of food!

Good breakfast, including vegetarian sausages, which is a welcome change. Very friendly lady serving breakfast.

The decor's a bit dodgy in places, but they were clearly repainting the outside while we were there, so perhaps they're working their way around to the inside next.

I'd go back.

an often overlooked part of Wales, mid Wales: tourists tend to focus either on the southern part or Snowdonia.

We stayed at this 2 Star Hotel in the Elan Valley. The Valley was created by a Victorian water project, and is now a site of special scientific interest, best known for its raptor (Red Kite) population. The whole area is about 90 minutes drive from Worcester across country, about 70 miles West of Birmingham. You could reach it by train to Lllandudno Wells (from Swansea or Shrewsbury) and then by taxi, but that train only runs twice a day.

There are many miles of walking trails, many accessible by walking from the hotel, which is about 2 miles outside the town. The visitor centre which introduces the dams and the reservoirs is about 1 mile away, with a nice walking path off the road.

The hotel is a little gem. Friendly and clean, with everything one could want in a small country hotel ie nothing fancy but everything worked as advertised. We ate at the restaurant, which was about £40-50 for two courses and wine for two. The place is very child friendly with some swings and a bit of grass off the road.

The only downside was we were travelling with my father, and his room was apparently above the public bar, and the music kept him up one night. The single rooms are a bit pokey.
