We visited in late winter when it wasn't possible to sit in the garden but the atmosphere in the pub was just how it should be - friendly and very accommodating. The landlord knows his beer and is a great host. The beers when we went were good and varied. The "house bitter" is brewed especially for the pub and was excellent. Special evenings are advertised on their website and there are barbecues in the summer. A real must if you are in the Hitchin/ Welwyn/Luton/Stevenage area.

No frills. And none necessary. The Strathmore Arms is a real rarity, which is sad to say. This is a pub where beer comes first. Friendly service and a homely atmosphere, but most importantly a really fantastic selection of beers. There were seven bitters on when I visited, and two proper ciders. Really excellent.

We always enjoy popping along for some excellent, regularly rotating real ales and meals at this excellent pub in an idyllic setting south of Hitchin.

Its handily located on the bus route from Hitchin to Welham Green (the Arriva 304 service), allowing a visit to be planned using trains (to Hitchin, St Albans, or Welham Green stations).

Lunchtime food is served during 12pm - 2pm (Tuesday to Saturday).
On Fridays and Saturdays evening meals are served between 6pm-9pm, when a specials board operates as well as the normal midweek menu (often including the recommended ham egg and chips).

Regular barbecues (especially on Bank Holidays) are organised, and there will be 2 beer festivals this year - Thur 21st - Sun 24th June and Thur 27th - Sun 30th Sept 2012.
The Strathmore Arms has been awarded numerous awards by CAMRA.

More basic than some, its an honest, straightforward place.
Dartboard and bar skittle table and a pleasant beer garden with plenty of parking complement the refreshment.

A popular place to break a ride, cycle or walk.

See their website for beer list, news, menus and directions (also for details of speciality nights, such as the Italian evenings);

Currently, no food is available on Sundays except during the BBQ season (April-September). Ring ahead to be sure.
