I stayed here for four nights, mid week, on business. This hotel is very reasonable, given the price at £60 a night, but I wouldn’t choose to stay here for the reasons listed below.

The room that I had was very, very small, with the double bed fitted into almost an alcove, so you could only access the bed from one side. There was no space around either end of the bed. There was a narrow strip between the bed and the desk/wardrobe. There was nowhere to leave a suitcase. The shower room was also very small and had a fire door that closed automatically with a loud bang. There was a long and winding walk up numerous small staircases and down narrow corridors to get to the room. There is no lift, so unless you are easily able to carry your suitcase ask for a room with easy access.

The room did appear to be clean. Most hotels have a sign that indicates whether the towels will be replaced everyday and usually state that, if left on the towel rail will not be replaced. This hotel had no such sign. I left my towels on a pile on the bed, hoping they would be replaced, but they were simply refolded and hung on the towel rail, I know they were the same towels, because there was a discoloured patch on one corner. I felt this was a bit dishonest.

The breakfast was poor. Service was slow to order cooked items. There was a limited range of cooked breakfast options (no hash browns or black pudding with the cooked breakfast). The continental breakfast spread, that you could help yourself to, always looked old and there was very little fresh fruit or cereal.

We waited 10 minutes to check out (which seems a long time when you are in a rush). In the end we had to knock on the kitchen door and ask for the receptionist. She did not apologise for keeping us waiting.

We ate at the hotel one evening and the service and food were very good.

We stayed at The Sun Hotel when attending a wedding. We struggled to find someone initially when checking in and our room itself smelt stale & the bathroom was very small and was definitely in need of upgrading as there were a number of broken and soiled fixtures. However, overall, the staff were friendly and helpful and they handled the wedding extremely well.

My daughter and her fiance chose the Sun Hotel as the venue for their wedding. With friends and relatives coming from all over the United Kingdom, the scene was set or a great celebration, and we weren't disappointed. Sharon and her team really pulled out all the stops to ensure that their special day went without a hitch, and it showed. As parents of the bride, my wife and I were so happy that everybody had such a marvellous time.

staff very helpful and in a genuine sort of way- I had a light evening dish and breakfast- the food was super- my room was comfortable and was facing the quaint road with shops and restaurants in view- sure the floors are creaky but what do you expect with an old inn- I found the Sun Hotel excellent value and would definitely go again

We arrived at The Sun Hotel at around 8 at night to find a wedding party in full swing. Despite being accommodated at The opposite end of the hotel we could barely hear the TV in our room. The booking should never have been made for a family with young children. We checked out at 10 and went home. :-( The room and service were absolutely fine. Nothing to write home about but perfectly adequate for the price.

There aren't many choices in hitchin for hotel, but I always ring the other first. The room are stuffy and old, the whole hotel creeks and you can really hear people walking past in the corridors and the internet has filters on it.

No one on reception to check us in, waited about 10 minutes. Room could have been cleaner, dust and mould on tiles in the bathroom, though sink, toilet and bath v. clean. Bed linen spotless.
We were their for a function and must say the food was served hot and tasty and drinks reasonably priced. Though the food was only served from the small function room kitchen I noticed under the kitchen units was dusty and grimy and could do with a good clean. Staff very friendly and helpful and appeared to enjoy their work. Breakfast a very good choice. Before we left I checked the draws only to find cigarette ash in one of them NOT GOOD. On the whole a very good night. The building is old and has masses of charm. Would stay their again. Agata who works their was very helpful and polite and a credit to the company.

Room Tip: Have stayed here before on the Sun Street side and was very noisy as it was a weekend. Be sure to as...
