“Nice quiet long stretch!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2013

Winchelsea Beach runs along the Channel from Camber Sands to Pett Level on the way to Hastings.

It is a shingle beach with many iconic groynes framing the landscape. The sea wall rises above the water giving a high risen walk for tourists and dog walkers to stroll along all the way down to Rye Harbour on the East. Past Rye Harbour you come to the sandier Camber Sands.

It is usually quite breezy along the beach and not hidden from the elements.

It is usually very quiet except for a fisherman’s or clams pickers sometimes, or local caravan holiday makers on sunny days. A clean beach with benches along the high path. No lifeguards or boat yards around. A key sight to see is the Mary Stanford Lighthouse, scene of a famous disaster where the entire crew perished at sea. It is now a closed boat house in disrepair with some memorial wreaths left. Cuts a sombre shape along coast and feels pretty sad when reading the plaque.

The nature reserve backs onto the beach and Camber Castle - old Tudor stronghold lies mile or so by foot behind this. Definitely worth a visit when theres a tour running to go inside. Tricky to find alone but persevere.

All in all, wrap up unless it very sunny. Watch the sunset towards Hastings, stretch those legs to Rye Harbour and back.

“Lovely Beach”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2013

This was a great place to visit with our small dog and yes, there are dog free areas also. Pebbles unless the tide is out, but a great place to pick up interesting stones and shells. Lovely place to walk even on a windy day!

“Vast beach - no one there!”

Winchelsea Beach seems to go on for miles! There is nothing but beach on one side of the road and rolling fields on the other. Beautiful spot.
