My friend and I decided on a couple of days away from London and both having been to the area many years ago decided to re-visit.
We travelled down on the train from London taking around 2 hours. The station is approx 1/2 mile from the New Inn.
We had found the New Inn on one of the hotel sites and booked a two night stay and found the whole experience great.
Our twin room, which we had requested, was tastefully furnished and in keeping with the character of the Inn. The en-suite bathroom had a lovely full shower something which is rare to find in smaller establishments.
All of the staff were were very welcoming friendly and professional.
We ate dinner in the restaurant area both evenings and found the food simple but of a high standard. We also spent an enjoyable hour in the 'Secret" walled garden.
The wines on offer were of a good variety and reasonably priced.
On recommendation of the staff we chose the House wine which we would definitely recommend as excellent value.
After a good nights sleep we enjoyed a very fresh, well cooked breakfast with sufficient choices for all tastes.
The town itself although very small is worth a meander around and we also walked to nearby Winchelsea Beach and to Rye, with help on directions from locals to avoid busy roads.
I would definietly visit the area again and definitely stay at the New Inn.

In spite of knowing the area well I had never been here before, too busy in Rye I suppose. However on Saturday I eventually came for lunch with my eldest son, his partner and two year old and my youngest son.
The staff were delightful, friendly and efficient, we had a delicious lunch in the very pretty rear garden which is across the small car park. Yummy ice creams followed and capped a fabulous couple of hours.
Winchelsea is one of the prettiest English towns although in reality more of a village, spend some time walking around and enjoying the eclectic architecture.

Room Tip: We were here only for lunch.

Winchelsea's a charming place in general, and the New Inn complements it perfectly.

We arrived unannounced on a Bank Holiday Monday in a party of 4 adults and 4 children, and found plenty of space in the lovely 'secret garden'. The quality of the food was fine - we particularly enjoyed the burger and fish and chips.

Staff were helpful and service was quick. All in all a really nice pub.

I tried to track down your website to get in touch but could not so resorted to trip advisor. As someone who recently moved into the town I love the New Inn, the decor, the friendly staff, the gorgeous log fire, but wish it was just that little bit better. We visit every Friday and most Saturdays and I constantly ask for the appearance of a guest ale but it never appears! Please could you review your selection of ales - IPA and Old Speckled Hen are unbelievably boring when you consider how many wonderful real ales there are in the country, not to mention Sussex!

Stayed for one night in their Grand Double in Nov 2013.

Have dined at this inn many times and adore the food, especially their New Inn burger (see my other reviews), but got the chance to stay here too. Room was £85 without breakfast which was nice they offered an option to have breakfast added or not as I never usually get to have breakfast so would prefer not to pay for it.

Booked Grand Double room which had amazing views on village and St Thomas church and graveyard and memorial. The village is very quiet so noise isn't a problem. Had lovely french antique bed, sofa with lounge area, modern en-suite shower-room (with toiletries) and dressing table area. Amazingly quaint old bay window seat. Lots of comfy cushions make it feel like a home from home..but better than your own home. Could have stayed forever.

There's parking onsite and restaurant is open all day so handy for lunch or dinner. Staff as always are brilliant. Could not recommend it enough!

Room Tip: Go for Rm 1 - Grand Double with French antique bed and great village view!!!
