We visited this village pub with rooms for the second time, purely because it is so close to Silverstone. We were in room 2 in the converted barn and it looked tired and in need of attention. The curtains were torn and in need of repair and the lightshade was stuck on squint! While the room and small bathroom was 'adequate' it could have done with a major upgrade and a damned good clean! There doesn't seem to be any soundproofing between the rooms and we could hear almost everything in the rooms on either side! The cooked breakfast was adequate but nothing to write home about. Considering we paid over £200 a night because it was Grand Prix weekend we didn't feel we got value for money. It is in a lovely village and has such potential but unless it has a major upgrade we probably wouldn't go back and I certainly wouldn't recommend it to friends.

Room Tip: Try to avoid rooms in the barn conversion as there is little or no soundproofing!

We came across this pub last week and decided to eat there. Food was good, (Steaks excellent, chips slightly took the shine off the meal) but overall very pleasant. Friendly locals. The barmaid/waitress with the Winehouse hair couldn't do enough for us despite having a very full restaurant to attend to and was very smiley and chatty! and The manageress was also cheerful and had good banter with a few people the other side of the bar. Would probably eat again if in the area.

We stayed here for one night before an experience at Silverstone the next day, the location was ideal only a few miles away. We paid £40 and were quite happy with what we got in return. We stayed in one of the rooms in the converted barn to the right of the pub and it was clean, with comfortable bed, heater, tv and tea & coffee facilities. The bathroom was small but totally fine and clean.

We ate in the restaurant in the evening and the food was fine, only complaint was cold black pudding in the mixed grill but the burger was particularly tasty. The cooked breakfast the following morning was small but very tasty.
Only suggestion is that locals not stand at the bar in the restaurant area, as they were a bit lively and a bit noisy while trying to eat in the evening, but only minor point. Would definitely recommend for a short stay.

We stayed here for one night before a track day at silverstone.we paid £65 for room 2 including breakfast.we were greeted quickly and told where our room was.the room is super dated but clean.the bed is small with only just enough room to walk round it to get to the bathroom which again was clean but basic standard.everything felt like it was done a bit on the cheap,ie furniture, bed, decor etc.was definitely adequate for our needs but £65 seems a lot for what you get.pub was nice but again the toilets and outside area are needing some attention.steaks were lovely although desert was very poor.Eton mess turned out to be a bowl of cream with raspberries in a glass that smelled of dishwasher tablets.the girl politely knocked it off our bill thankfully.overall this is what it is.a convenient quick stay for silverstone.nice enough but room for improvement.probably wouldn't stay again or recommend it.

On arrival we opened the door to what felt like a warm and welcoming pub, a smattering of locals propping up the bar and a lovely wood burning stove burning away in the corner. Unfortunately that was as good as it gets. We were shown through to a very cold and stark restaurant with 6 tables in it, three of which were already occupied. Despite there only being 10 of us there, once three people had ordered lamb shank we were told there were no more. We ordered pate as a starter and fishcakes and chicken in piri-pir sauce for mains. Along with everybody else who had just ordered we waited 45mins for it to arrive, The pate in itself was tasty but 45 mins to toast a slice of bread and plate up some pate is just not acceptable. In the meantime the table adjacent to us had their main lamb shanks delivered, one of which was still frozen in the middle and anothers vegetables were barely cooked. Our mains arrived, fishcakes fried till a chocolate brown and tasteless with a salad drowned in lemon juice, The piri-piri chicken was a chicken breast with some bottled sauce poured over it accompanied by a heap of greasy cabbage and bacon. Credit where credit is due, the chips were nice. Conversation had now spread between every table as to how poor the food was. The table with the lamb shanks had all sent their food back, paid for their starters and gone for a pizza. Of the 9 covers served that night the most favourable comment was 'well it was edible'. We asked to speak to the chef but was told Pedro was not there and that the stand in chef was busy despite everyone having been served their main and no one dare ordering dessert. We went through to the bar to pay and talk to the landlady as she would not come and talk to us. When we expressed our opinion and disappointment we were effectively told 'that is how it is in Portugal', 'We have been doing this for thirty years' and 'Don't tell me how to do my job'. She folded up the bill and walked off. Not a hint of an apology or the merest hint of concerned. The young lady who served us in the restaurant was lovely, I just feel sorry for the poor thing having to be the firewall between customers and the appalling management. How the hell this place is still going I do not know. Avoid it like the plague. As you can guess we shall never go near the place again and make sure everyone we know avoids it as well. Do not let thewebsite fool you, The Kings Head is is one of the worst places we have ever been to. The Chinese we had on the way home on the other hand was delicious.
