“Good service and country cooking, a winning combination!”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 July 2012

No where at the Bay Tree is the phrase 'fine dining' used as it simply states it is a bistro; a good all round menu having no pretence to other than it is - a solid country kitchen with local products, freshly cooked serviced by a young and pleasant staff. They offer good value and serve some of the best coffee and leaf tea in the area. Tonight we had a light dinner with a bottle of house red (Argy Shiraz/Temp) and coffee, excellant value for £33 in these hard times. Have no reservations about eating here.

“Mix Match”

I've been in the Bistro a couple of times whilst visiting friends and family and must say I love the place!! The service given by the staff is next to non. They greeted us as soon as we walked in, checked up on us more then alot of other places do and catered to our every need. The wide range of food is outstanding with their all day menu to different specials everyday. The atmosphere in there is normally quite lively with the staff interacting with customers, everyone happily takling amongst themselves and quiet background music being played. The only downside is we sat in the conservatory and you tend to hear alot of noise from the kitchen whether it be dishes banging or raised voices.

“Reasonable for lunch”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 February 2012

Bay tree bistro offers good bistro food in a homely setting. The current owners have done their best to improve the building on what was clearly a limited budget. You do feel it is warm and cosy when you go in. It's not a smart place but welcoming enough at lunchtime.

Have eaten lunch here twice. They do a reasonable range of light meals during the day. Good but not outstanding. Had a nice Panini with plenty of filling one time. Another time had the home-made soup. Now I am quite an aficionado of soup and can make a good one myself but this offering was too thin and had been over-boiled so lost some flavour. The bread it came with was fresh and tasty.

I have been going to the Bay Tree Bistro now for almost a year for coffee and a smoke in the court yard or out front. The welcome and service has never wavered. I have been to a great many places around the globe and the Bay Tree, Kim and all her staff are up there with the very best. Go for a coffee , or a meal . You will enjoy the entire time you are there.

“Best coffee in town”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 January 2012

The Baytree is situated in one of the oldest and loveliest buildings in Halesworth - very picturesque from the outside and cosy inside with an open fire in winter. In summer there's a sunny little courtyard at the back, or tables on the pavement in the shopping precinct. After a chequered history, the Bay Tree is now a family business and has become quite a social and cultural hub with a wide range of live music on offer at weekend evenings - from an Elvis tribute act to Celtic harp and classical guitar. The staff are friendly and helpful, the ambience delightful, the food freshly cooked and often original (for example, they make their own Thai curry pastes from scratch). Daily specials and a regular menu are sourced locally as far as possible. Fresh scones in the morning and great coffee make this a favourite for elevenses too.
