“Never seen so many turtles”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 November 2013

This place is a great place to stop by - just be prepared to sweat during the hot summer months! It was wonderful seeing what they're doing for so many species of turtles, including both sea and land. The best part was seeing the baby turtles outside, as well as the albino turtles. Some of these sea turtles were absolutely beautiful with their coloration. Also, there is a GREAT view of Mazunte beach from this area. Wish they would've had a gift shop or items for purchase to help raise more money for the center because I would've liked to have taken home a momento. I settled by getting a little turtle soap from the shop in town that makes organic bathing items. :)

“Lovely!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

Amazing experience as we were the only two people there and you can get very close to the turtles as well. There is an indoor area with tanks and an outdoor area where baby turtles are kept and nurtured, so you will see them in every size and age. An experience not to miss, this and the Ventanilla made our holiday!

“Somewhat disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 March 2013

Mazunte's former turtle slaughterhouse was turned into a refuge for turtles. I was not too impressed with the exhibition. The explanations are given in Spanish, perhaps a small flyer in English would be beneficial for those whose Spanish is not too good. I was not too impressed with the way they show these animals, it is so much more impressive to see them in their natural surrounding, the ocean!

“Could use some additional investment”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 February 2013

The Centro de la Tortuga in Mazunte is potentially a dynamite attraction, but I would recommend additional investment in bringing it up to standard. Better lighting, more attractive display pools, clearer written explanations in English and Spanish, and perhaps an audio tour guide would be welcome additions. Given the importance of the tortuga to both the local and tourist communities, these investments would certainly pay off.

“Terrific, but make sure you......”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 January 2013

Make sure you get behind the museum to see the turtle rearing pens out back. They are currently doing construction and were trying to keep people out, but we're glad we persisted and were given the opportunity to see all the outside turtle facilities in the back. You'll love all the hatchlings!
