“Off season, no crowds, no bother”
Reviewed 19 October 2013

It is a pleasure to visit little towns such as Saint Palais sur Mer in the off season. No rush, hustle or congestion. And the little Hotel Residence Les Flots is an easy transit stay when there is no one else around. The place clearly caters to young families in season and they still have the enclosed swimming pool nice and warm. A great way to soak up a few travel aches and pains. Management is very helpful and has the place spotlessly clean and tidy. And while the accommodation is not salubrious, everything works and is in place. The little kitchenette is a boon for the traveller getting weary of too much restaurant fare. The hotel location was very convenient and we enjoyed the little rest we had here. Come summer it might be a different story.

Room Tip: Try for off season, the town is charming without the crowds

Nice room with all the amenities to cook in the room. Amazing swimming pool area well equipped. You can walk for 5 min to the beach or 10 min to the town center were it is vibrant and with a lot of restaurants and bars.

I was received really bad by one of the owners that was angry because I arrived late, we got a lot of traffic on the way from Champagne region to St Palais Sur Mer (never pass by Paris when going to the south). She was upset because we were staying 1 day only (I wanted to stay more, but the hotel was full) and because I asked 1 hour or a bit more for the check out (because we arrived really late). Then she pressured us to leave early in the other day otherwise we would get more traffic to go to our next destination (the next place was only 50 km away). But, at least in the other day she was more friendly and allowed us to use the pool after the check out for some more hours (she said 1 hour more, but I don't think she was really controlling this). Other than this, nothing wrong with the hotel, except if you have to bring bags up on the stairs, that it is always a problem.

Stayed here for five nights in June. Air traffic controllers on go-slow disrupted our travel plans, but the owner was extremely understanding during the delays, welcoming when we eventually arrived at about 22.30 and helpful throughout our stay. We had booked a studio but were actually allocated a one-bedroom apartment, which was clean, bright and very comfortable, with a south-facing terrace. Breakfast was available delivered to the apartment, the main St Palais beach is about 10 minutes' walk, the 'sentier des douaniers' coastal path only about 200m away and there's a big Super-U supermarket a short drive inland - you could walk there in about 15 minutes but it would be no fun hauling back the groceries. We enjoyed crepes and salad in La Terrasse restaurant in the village (recommended by the hotel owner, and open late), and fresh fruit from the thrice-weekly market. We only used the pool once as the sea was (just about) warm enough to swim in. The only small problem we had was that the shower door didn't close completely, making it very easy to flood the bathroom floor - but we learned to work our way around that. All in all, we highly recommend this establishment.

Standard room with bed and kitchen in one room approx 20x15ft + one room with a toilet & another with a shower/basin.

The kitchen had a sink, combi microwave (the instructions btw are in the draw by the bed if you need them), hob, saucepans, plates, glasses, cups and cutlery. There was also cleaning equipment under the sink too.

There was a TV, but as you might expect only French channels. Ours did have an HDMI socket in the back, so I guess you could hook something up if you needed to.

It was all very clean, nothing special but then we never expected it to be. One thing to bear in mind is that the bed is against the wall on one side, so if there are two of you, one will need to crawl over the other to get in and out - however I should say that this was in our room - others well might be different.

It is worth making sure that if you do want to use the pool, you MUST wear proper trunks - there is a hotel rule stating that you cannot wear swimming shorts, and the proprietor also mentioned it when showing us around.

There is a Super U within walking distance (approx 15 minutes) - although be warned it is up a small hill. You turn right out of the hotel, walk till you come to a roundabout - turn left and walk to the entrance of the local park (very nice btw). You should then see a sign for the Super U - you walk up the hill for about 8 mins and it will be on your left. Be warned though, despite saying it was open Monday to Saturday, it seemed to be closed on Wednesdays.

There is a local supermarket in the main center of town (again turn right out of the hotel and just keep walking). There is also a small local cinema, which on certain days/times does show some movies in english, but as you might expect most of the showings are in French.

For those who havent been in France before - a couple of pointers, if you are driving on the motorways remember factor in the cost of the tolls! Also it is now a legal requirement to have a breathalyser test kit in your car - even if you dont drink!

Stayed here for 2 nights on a tour of france. Apartments are very well placed, easy walking distance from nice beaches, and in the other direction the town on Palais.
Carrefour just 2 minutes in the car!
The kitchen is well equipped - aprt from one thing - a corkscrew! (we found to our horror after the supermarket trip!).
Shower was excellent, and the balcony with the bbq and small table and chairs was nice. We were shown the pool, but didn't take the plunge.
Overall recommended.

Room Tip: All seem good. We were across the road from the main hotel- and that was nice and quiet.

This was our second stay at Les Flots and it won't be our last. The one-bedroom apartment, made up with a big bed, was very comfortable, convenient and quite a good value. The well-equipped kitchen came in handy for preparing meals, and the big drying rack was perfect for drying swim suits and beach towels on the balcony. The shower was the best we had in two weeks in France. We love the location with a variety of beaches nearby. Laurence, Thierry and daughter Alexia keep the property spotlessly clean and provide a cordial welcome. They have made us feel like good friends, and their English is so much better than our French that communication was never a problem. We love being at Les Flots and look forward to a return trip.
