“Is location important to you?”
Reviewed 26 January 2010

Vera Beach Club is fine in itself, although a little odd in requiring two visits to reception to leave (one to pay, one to leave key). Only one of the pools was open in October. The restaurant in October was not well frequented but very adequate. Other restaurants in the area are difficult: apart from an excellent one down the road, you have to walk 15 minutes on a badly lit road to a Chinese or 20 minutes to a fish restaurant in Garrucha (in addition there was a closed restaurant and one which only opened during the day). Contrary to what appears from Google Maps to be the case, the long beach of Vera Playa requires going inland to the bridge.

We stayed at the vera beach in Oct, Its just out of season so it was very quiet, but more of a relaxing quiet than a boring one. We were very surprised at how spacious and clean the apartment was, very modern decor and comfortable.

The staff are very friendly and loved my kids which was very nice as I have a very loud chatty 4yr old. The restrauraunt "Deli" the staff there were excellent. There was entertainment 3nights a week which I found quite good. The only negative thing is that there is not that much chioce on the menu, but its not that big a deal as the food is nice.

Was glad that I went in the half term as there were lots of other families, it might have been a bit too quiet if we had gone a week later of before, as the surrounding area is all closed up, there are a couple of bars and a supermarket up the rd.

Would recommend Mini Hollywood as an excurtion althought its quite expensive, there is a zoo there with some amaxing animals and lots of shows.

All in all I would give the vera beach club 10/10.

This place is really nice. We stayed for one week in a ground floor apartment. That was the only flaw-ground floor means no balcony. If you are booking request a 1st floor apartment if you want some outside space. The apartment was spotless and very nice and modern! Loved the pool area. Spent most of our time there. The beach is 6-7 mins walk away and is really nice. You can walk to Garrucha in about 30 mins. A car is recommended as the hotel is one hour away. Be careful when renting a car, there are lots of extra charges! There are not many nice places to eat in the area so we ate in the pool bar quite a bit. It isn't haute cuisine but is nice. Mojaccar is lovely, we went to the Mandala Bar on the beach, it is amazing!

Would absolutely recommend this place, it has great staff, clean apartments and a lovely pool area.

The resort itself is beautiful, lovely gardens and water features, all very well maintained. Apartments are lovely and modern, spacious, clean and have absolutely everything you would need. The pool's nice, certainly large enough with plenty of loungers. The pool bar's ok, food average, quite expensive and the staff aren't the friendliest.

The most disappointing thing about the resort was the restriction on times for food and drink. The pool itself was open from 10am until 7pm, but the bar was only open between 12pm and 4pm, with no other facilities available for food and drink (the main restaurant served from 7pm until 11pm, which we did try one night, but was nothing to write home about, menu choice and food itself not great) - don't go half board!

The resort had one other outdoor pool, which we only came across once (you get used to using the same route back to your apartment as it's very easy to get lost!) - I'm not actually even sure if the second pool was opened. There was also an indoor pool plus gym and spa which we never used, and i'm sure you had to pay extra for anyway.

The beach was 5 mins walk away (turn right when you leave the resort) but as it was outwith peak season, it wasn't actually opened as such (no loungers out, walkways all closed off). Whatever you do, don't turn left as you leave the resort to try and find any eating places - we made this mistake the first night (not knowing where to go obviously) and came across an Indian restaurant - steer clear!! However there is one other bar on the same stretch of road which is recommended (Roly's Too) - open til late most nights (which we only discovered on the last night of our holiday unfortunately). The street itself has quite an eerie feel about it at this time of year, very quiet and all other apartments/holiday homes not in use are all shuttered up.

All other bars and eating places are in the same direction as the beach (all 4 of them!) - in the quiet season they please themselves when to close, which is quite disappointing when you're looking for a place to have a few drinks at night! Definitely not a place for young people or teenagers. One place highly recommended for eating is the Pueblo Laguna restaurant, great menu/food, staff all very friendly and attentive and there's entertainment a few nights a week (only downside is they close at 11pm).

There is one shop in the village, which closes at 9pm and stocks most necessities. If you're looking for more shops, pubs and restaurants, the small fishing town of Garrucha is within walking distance or 5 mins away in the car - hiring a car is a must in this place!! Garrucha itself isn't a very nice place, quite run down looking, but has a large supermarket and a couple of tobacconist (shops don't sell cigarettes for some reason) - however don't go between 3pm and 5pm as nothing's open - siesta time!!

The weather was good but quite cool at nights so it might be an idea to go later in May or from June onwards, there may also be a better chance of pubs staying open later and just a general busier feel about the place. All in all, could be a great holiday if you just want to relax by the pool during the day, go for a quite meal at night and have a luxurious apartment to stay in (which luckily enough was fine by me!), but if you're after nightlife, clubs, lots of places to eat, shop and sightsee, this isn't the place for you!

If your looking for a quiet and relaxing get away then Vera Beach Club is perfect. Gives you the opportunity to see Spain without the tourist attractions.

All staff are friendly and helpful, both check in and check out are dealt with quickly and efficently. The apartments have everything you need and are cleaned every other day and always left spotless. The resorts Dali restaurant and pool bar have great food and service with the Dali also offering entertainment most nights.

In order to see the local attractions then you will need a car. Most drives to the local sites are on good roads and have brilliant views of the mountains and desert. Majocar is perfect if you want to see true Spanish homes high in the mountains. After drive down to the sea front and you will find a number of beachside bars that are all great fun. Almeria is very like your usual England town centres, plenty of places to shop though.

For people with kids you need to visit Mini Hollywood, just the other side of Tabernas. There is also Fort Bravo but Mini Hollywood is ten times better and much more to see. Once you've walked through the old Western town then walk the whole of the Wildlife park, it takes a while but there are plenty of animals to see and the views are brilliant. If you have time try and catch the live Western show they have daily, great fun for any age to watch!!!

For food a great place to eat is the Laguna Beach restaurant. If you leave Vera Beach club and walk right towads the beach you will see it on the right about ten seconds from the actual resort and the supermarket. Brilliant food and great service. The owner and his staff are all friendly and make you feel like they have always known you. Great value!!!

Very quiet resort great for us older members of the holiday sceen. My wife is a teacher so it is nice to go some where to relax and chill out. I would say that a car is a must as there is so much to see localy. The roads are quiet so ideal for first time conti drivers. The nearest town is Garrucha and this is an easy walk, about 30 minutes, from the complex, the beach is 5 minutes away. all on the flat. Go to Garrucha at about 15:30 to see the little fishing boats come in the land thier catch. Visits to Nijar and Mojacar are a must. The market in Vera, Saturday morning is a must for the ladies. Complex very very clean. Try the 4x4 tour, this can be aranged by Nick from Infinity.

I stayed at the Vera Beach Club with my wife and 2 children aged 3 and 9. On arrival we were quiet pleasantly surprised as the check in was very fast and efficient. Our apartment was right next to the reception, above the Leisure Centre and opposite the restaurant so to be honest we were happy.

We were very happy with our apartment as it was just what we wanted and included two air conditioning units that were fantastic, a washing machine, TV that had BBC channels and all the other home from home things such as a coffee machine, kettle and utensils. We even had a bottle of water, milk, dish cloths, washing up liquid and mosquito spray provided just to get you up and ready.

The grounds are very nice and kept clean. There are 2 pools, but the bigger of the two was shut due to it not being peak season. The other pool was located next to the pool bar which is very expensive so I recommend that you buy your cans of beer/ coke etc from the supermarket. The pool was clean and there were plenty of sun beds to go around as one thing that is strictly forbidden is the reservation of beds with your towel. There was a lifeguard present at all times.

We stayed on a half board basis so had to use the restaurant. Breakfast was the usual of croissants, bread, cheese, ham etc, but you had to pay extra if you wanted bacon & eggs. The evening meal was nothing fantastic and to be honest we complained one night as there was not a vegetarian option, it was only then that we were told that we could choose from the menu anything as we had €15.50 to spend per person, but that didn't get you much.

There were a lot of elderly people at the resort and not many children. There wasn't anything for the kids to do other than every now and again someone from the Baloo Club would play bowls with them. We had 1 rainy day so thought that we would try the leisure centre, but be warned as you have to pay €17 a week per apartment and you have to wear a swim cap...

It was like a ghost town when we were there so not many bars open. We visited Rolly's Too which is a few minutes walk away and is highly recommended. We never ate there, but saw the portions and quality which looked great, We had a few drinks here and it was all free pour, which you could get 2 doubles out of 1 drink.

We visited the Aqua park which is a 5 minute bus ride and this was fantastic. It cost €44 for a family ticket and we stayed all day, so is a must to be honest.

In summing up I would say that the apartment was great, but not good if you have children or looking for somewhere to party. This is definitely a place for the retired who just want to do nothing other than take things easy....
