“Why wait for winter?!”
Reviewed 17 July 2011

We just had 5 nights at the Pension Hoffelner and definitely had a 'wow' moment when we arrived. Beautifully decorated rooms, great lounge and patio area, and amazing views. Excellently located for either walking from the doorstep or just a quick and extremely lovely walk down to the village. While Rob almost converted this non-skier that a trip in winter would be worth it I can't imagine it would be better than in summer! We will be back as didn't finish by far the walks we wanted to do. And the Summercard (which we didn't really notice when we booked) is actually fantastic value and even as a couple saved loads - a family would get a huge benefit. Only really minor suggestion would be a bit of variation at breakfast to benefit those staying a while. But overall fantastic stay, thanks!

I would first of all like to thank both Rob and Joanna for a thoroughly enjoyable stay. As soon as we arrived at the airport the experience started with prompt collection and transfers back to their lovely home. Rob was very warm and friendly and talked us through the local "to do's and no to do's" which is always helpful. After all there is only so much research you can do on the Internet.

We were then welcomed on arrival and shown to our rooms, which are very spacious, clean and have fantastic views from their well-sized balconies. What better way to recover from a heavy day skiing than sitting on the balcony and enjoying the wonderful views.

We booked on a fully catered basis and I have to agree with our organiser this is certainly the way to go. I can only describe the food as ‘Outstanding’ I cant remember an evening when anything was left on a single plate and for a table of 6 that is quite impressive. If you are considering catered accommodation this is the place to stay.

Rob and Joanna have obviously put a lot of effort and hard work into making the holidays of their guests an enjoyable one. There are plenty of things to keep you occupied, whether it is their enormous collections of DVD’s, the pool table, the sauna, the gym, table tennis, and games consoles. Whatever holiday you are looking for their flexibility will be way beyond what you expect.

The ski is fantastic, the main reason for our stay and was perfect for the beginner like myself as well as the more experienced who tackled the Olympic runs. We barely had to queue all week and I must say was very refreshing after previous holidays.

As you can probably tell, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and would recommend them to anyone who is thinking of a similar trip. I look forward to my next visit, so Rob best get a fresh barrel of Schladminger ready for me.

See you soon

Along with my wifeI have just returned wife from a fortnights skiing holiday staying at the Pension Hoffelner, my first impressions of the place was fantastic....my second impression was that my first impression was correct.

I personally think that both Rob and Joanna the owners made our holiday, as they made you feel straight away like old friends rather than paying guests. These people genuinely enjoy their work and nothing is too much trouble for them. Their Pension is immaculate and the service, quality and quantity of food is superb, exactly what you need after a hard day on the well groomed pistes.

The free wine served with dinners is of a high quality and sells for 21 Euros a bottle in a local restaurant unlike the norm served in many chalets and hotels. In addition to all this they have the best heated boot and ski room I have seen. The prices for drinks in the bar is very reasonable and for beer and wine is cheaper than at home.

The free daily transfers to the slopes laid on by Rob and Joanna are part of the holiday. The ski area around Ramsau and Schladming is the Ski Amade area which is one of the biggest in Europe. In the immediate vicinity there are 5 mountains and a glacier to ski, Plenty variety for all snowsports levels. It is obvious that there has been a huge amount of investment in the area for the FIS Worldcup in 2013, and the ski lifts, restaurants, snowmaking, pistes and facilities are highly impressive.

The local prices in this part of Austria for lunch on the slopes, drinks, ski/boot hire and full area lift passes are significantly cheaper than France, Switzerland and even Italy. The people in Ramsau the local village and Schladming area very friendly and most speak excellent English, however they really appreciate any attempts at speaking German.

I have travelled extensively throughout Europe on both summer walking, and winter ski holidays, and can honestly say that I have never meet more friendly and hospitable hosts than Rob and Joanna along with the support of Rob's parents David and Janet. The Pension Hoffelner represents excellent value for money, the people involved are dedicated and passionate about snowsports and the standards of service, quality and friendliness are impressive......it really doesn't get better than this.

We stayed at Pension Hoffelner for a week snowboarding, it is in a beautiful location with views straight up to the mountains. The food is fantastic, all home cooked every evening. Very relaxed atmosphere, rooms are lovely with great bathrooms.

Had a wonderful time here with a group of friends over New Year. Fantastic accommodation (the best we've stayed in on a skiing holiday!), excellent service and wonderful food - all in all amazing place. Rob and Joanna and wonderful hosts and really made us feel at home. All this plus 6 great days of skiing, the tobogganing evening and the fireworks, meant we had a great time. Cant wait until we head back.

Pension Hoffelner is a lovely place to stay. the hotel has been renovated to a very high standard by current owners Rob and Joanna, whilst maintaining the traditional austrian charm. the rooms are excellent and the views magnificent. Rob and Joanna made us feel very welcome and it felt like we were staying with friends rather than in a hotel. they are both committed to ensuring their guests have a wonderful holiday and are happy to offer advice and information about the ski amade and the local resorts. transport is provided to and from the ski station but if you want to stay around the ski area for apres ski drinks then you would need to make your own way back. we were happy to go back to the hotel for apres ski. there is a comfortable lounge with large tv, games, wii, pool table, internet and wi fi access and also a small sauna and fitness room. its a 10min walk into town if you want to venture out for meal or drinks but i think most people would be happy just to stay at the hotel. skiing offers great choice for all abilities with lots of different areas covered by the lift pass. would definately go again

I have just returned from a weeks holiday with friends and family (9 in the group ranging from age 19 to 58) Joanna and Rob have worked hard to create a luxurious hotel whilst keeping its Austrian charm ! They are wonderful hosts, extremely helpful at all times providing transport to and from the slopes, advising the best routes, cooking lovely meals (particular fan of the cherry pie and delicious mozarella starter with chilli pesto and the soooo relaxing infra red sauna, a must for the aches and pains) Totally recommend the sledging on their night off its a great laugh :-) There is skiing for every ability, my favourite of the week being on the long sweeping number 3's on Hauser Kaibling they are fantastic !! 2 things to warn you about...the hotel is very warm so no need for thermals at evening meal and "Jaggies" which im now hooked on but beware the morning head ache ha ha Thanks for a truly enjoyable stay all the best Amanda, Lee, Megan and Rob xx Definately planning a return visit
