Stayed here in early November for 2 nights mid-week. This was our sixth visit. It gets quite pricey on weekends, but we got a really good rate for this mid-week timeframe -low season too. Over the years we have stayed in various different suites, cabins, chalets, etc. and this time picked a Junior Suite which is the smallest and cheapest accommodation they have. But the room is still more than plenty big for two adults and comes with all the basic features of the other rooms - hot tub on the balcony and wood-burning fireplace. Although some of the other room styles have saunas, bigger 3-sided fireplaces, etc., all the rooms have the same all-included dinner and breakfast.

The room had a mini fridge and a Keurig coffee machine - they provide 2 coffee pods and 2 tea pods but the sign says they charge $2 each (which apparently they do not – so why the sign??). We knew about this charge so brought our own coffee machine as we usually wake up early and the restaurant doesn’t open for breakfast until 8:30. Rooms have free wi-fi which worked great for us except on the first night - when we returned to our room after dinner there was no reception. Couldn’t call the front desk as it was closed by then. However, it was up and running again by the time we woke up the next morning. Have to remember we are no longer in the big city!! Free Netflix and satellite TV - an earlier reviewer noted that there was no TV but they were in the process of changing providers at the time I believe. We had lots of channels.

Having our own hot tub on the balcony is the main reason we go here. Hot tub worked well but the cover is far too heavy - needed the two of us to manoeuvre it on and off - plus the fact that ours was broken made it even more difficult. We’ve been to lots of other places that have covers that one person alone can move so not sure why these need to be so heavy and cumbersome.

As returning clients we received a free one-hour massage, or two half hour massages. We picked the latter and had the same masseur- unfortunately for both of us he talked almost non-stop which was anything but relaxing for either of us - but he does have lots to say about an amazing number of different subjects! This was the only benefit we received for being repeat clients. When making our reservations we had asked for a room on the middle level of the building - for our price point we get one either on the first or middle floor - the top floor is more expensive. However, we were given a room on the lower level and at the very end of the hallway, which was the furthest from the outside door. Not impressed as the resort was nowhere near full.

We were told that they are soon going to start charging for parking (really?) and firewood. Apparently this is to help compensate for the higher wages due to the government’s new Minimum Wage Law. I think it would be better to just increase their rates rather than nickel and diming guests this way.

Food is still pretty good. Wait staff at dinner are mostly young and I don’t recognize any from our previous visits. They now have live music during dinner time - not sure of its every night but we had two different entertainers our two nights there. I think this is great! Currently they do not charge corkage (they used to) but I understand they will be re-implementing a charge to, again, help defray higher wages.

In spite of its quirks we would go back again. Every employee we dealt with, even if just saying hello to were more than friendly. This is the resort’s biggest asset.

We stayed at the Andromeda Spa Villa for one night on November 12th and, as in the past, our experience was incredibly enjoyable - another sentimental memory to add to our ever-growing collection. This was our second stay and we are already discussing our next visit - for sure it will be an annual tradition but at this rate it looks like it could be a semi-annual destination!

Our first stay was in the Michael Angelo master suite earlier this year in April 2017 (7-9). We appreciated and enjoyed the gorgeous bathroom facilities with heated floors as well as the hot tub on our balcony that overlooked the shimmering lake. In the evening the lake was calm and still and was like a mirror - you could see the houses' images from across the way reflecting off the water. The air was crisp and fresh - perfect for indulging in the private hot tub.

Our second stay was in the Villa and it was magnificent - the room was very spacious yet incredibly cozy and serene - 14 ft vaulted ceilings, fireplace and an incredibly comfortable king size bed provided the perfect setting for a splendidly romantic evening. A very minor detail was that the bathroom wasn't equipped with shampoo & conditioner but that wasn't a major issue as I always travel with both.

On both occasions, we enjoyed the tastiest 5-course dinners in our room, in front of the wood burning fireplace - where else could you possibly revel in that? Staff were very courteous and accommodating.

A small suggestion - an earlier check-in time would be appreciated - only because we want to spend as much time as we can enjoying the day at the Resort!

See you again - soon!

As others point out there are great things about the resort, however, as a repeat customer over several years I have noticed a consistent drop in some areas, particularly food and upkeep of rooms.

Dinner service is always outstanding and staff genuinely go out of their way to make guests feel special, however, we’ve had several disappointing meals in the last year and find the meals inconsistent and lacking flavour. I've always found the breakfasts quite ordinary and breakfast service somewhat lacking. On our most recent visit service was an unsatisfying experience as we waited at least 20-minutes before we could get the attention of our server weren't even offered a second cup of coffee. As well, on the same stay, our hot tub was not working properly and we were moved to another room. I was happy with this as the first room looked worn (sofa sagging, indentations on both sides of the mattress, carpet tears and wear). Overall, our second room was nicer and the sofa was new but the carpet was overdue to be replaced and both bathroom sinks had chips & cracks. In addition, the water level in the hot tub was too low which affected the flow of the jets. It seems they’ve cut one too many corners and it’s starting to show - not typical of a 5 star accommodation and not great value for money at full price.

TIP: You will want to note that wood is no longer included with the “all inclusive wood burning fireplaces” (a $10/night wood surcharge has recently been implemented). As well, be prepared to pay an additional $20/night fee for parking. Both fees will be added to the original price quoted for your room (read the fine print).

We stayed the first 4 days of October and had a wonderful time. The gorgeous fall weather enabled us to sit on Gaia Villa deck overlooking the lake.Luckily, there was also a full moon- a private outdoor hot tub by the light of the moon! Oh,my!

We love CR and have returned many, many times. It is condescending and untruthful for anyone to suggest if you like this resort, you are not used to 5 star accomodations. We have stayed at the Divani Apollon in Vouliagmeni, the Myconian Ambassador and Manoir Hovey (twice) in North Hatfield where Hilary and Bill Clinton were recent guests- feel free to google these.

To suggest the resort has " never ever" been updated is just plain silly. The resort was purchased as a fishing lodge by the Sorensen family 50 years ago and consisted of small log cabins. When we first visited, the current recreation room was a dirt crawl space under the dining room. Many new buildings appeared over the years. And, on a recent visit, a truckload of new mattresses arrived. We were offered one on the spot.

We chose to spend many anniversaries here and always enjoyed the experience. Our most recent visit was to relax and enjoy fall in and around Algonquin Park courtesy of the free park passes provided. We stayed in Gaia Spa Villa. It is large, well equipped (KEURIG PODS ARE FREE in spite of the little confusing sign) and comfortable. I don't mind the green tile when I get a 2 person Euro shower/ steam room, heat lamp and private cedar sauna.

The gardeners were out cleaning up for winter but there were lots of purple asters which were attracting American Lady and Monarch butterflies. Many of the staff (Derrick and Nancy to name a couple) have been here for years and are very accommodating. I can't even imagine the logistics of retaining staff in a place which is 236 km.from the nearest large city (Ottawa). CR even built accommodation so they could stay on site! And how cool is it that they are attracting students from Europe to train here?I found the accents quite attractive but I digress!

All our meals were very good. There is a regular menu plus daily specials and there is lots of choice. With the bread basket and trio of butter balls, sun dried tomato hummus and balsamic/olive oil plus the chef's surprise (amuse bouche), one hardly needs 2 appetizers, entree and dessert. A 4 course dinner would be plenty( an appetizer, entree and dessert OR 2 appetizers and entree for those who have to avoid sugar). I love the sage bread so they brought extra. The artisan salad (greens, pancetta, goat cheese, cranberries and cashews) is one or the best I've had. Desserts include a very generous fruit, cheese and crackers plate. You may want to take dessert back to your room!! After dinner,we enjoyed the fire pit and comfortable seating overlooking the lake.

I want to address recent changes. The wine policy has changed over the years.First,it was wine "at cost" then BYOW with a corkage fee then BYOW with no corkage fee and now back to BYOW with a $20 corkage fee. Fair enough - you can always drink your own wine in your room or hot tub before or after dinner. However, there are 2 changes which are disappointing to see - fees for firewood($10) and parking ($20/ night). CR advertises as " all inclusive". The inclusions list woodburning fireplaces in every unit- what is a fireplace without wood?? And parking @ $20/ night in a remote area is excessive and unacceptable. The resort should set RATES to maintain their level of profitability!!The all inclusive rate was one of the attractions. PLEASE, NO ADD ONS!
