If you have a dog, this place would be heaven. If you don't like dogs.. well go elsewhere.
The dogs there are were well behaved (funny to have a little white dog peeking under the toilet door :) ) but yeah need to watch where you walk which is a shame.
large games room, tv room, good kitchen. 50c showers, but that's ok.
walking distance (5 mins) to shops (most closed between christmas and new year.. how odd is that?) lot's of nice cafes and restaurants. and drive to mountain bike tracks, or waterfall walks.

I'm not sure how this place gets negative reviews. We have stayed here a lot in our caravan and in cabins. The place is very tidy with large family friendly faculties. Great play ground with grass tennis court just ask at office for racquet's . Hot showers Nice big camp kitchen. Tv room with sky. Large games room with pool table and table tennis plus other unusual games. Priced well. What more do you want. If you are looking for a good old kiwi camping ground this is the spot. Wifi all around camp so not sure what that's about has been for the last 2 years well has been for us. We have enjoyed our stays here and are sure Mark and the crew work hard to make all sorts welcome.

I did not find the campground littered with dog poo as per previous reviewer, the facilities were clean and the grounds very tidy. The opwners are very friendly and laid back, nothing was a problem. Only negative is they ahve coin operated showers.

The best thing about Methven Camping Ground was we could take our dog with us. He loves camping and staying in the caravan.

We came to this camping ground on motorcycles and a 4 wheel drive vehicle. While enquiring about the price of the various options we were surprised that the price kept on changing and indeed was rising. ON asking why the price was changing and increasing the the manager of the camping ground got really up-tight and said take it or leave it and then said he could not be bothered with us and told us to "bugger off" and go away.

We really thought that that kind of behavour was extreamly rude and we went to abisko in the main street where we were received with a smile and enjoyed the stay. DONT stay at Methbven Camping ground at the A and P park. I have never felt more upset and embarrased by a person supposidly in the hospitality industry.

Stayed here recently and was received well by hosts. Very cheap rates for full facility. I agree with the last 2 reviews on dog poo and no wifi. In fact I had to avoid a dog poo which was in the way of my water hose when filling up. Wifi is present but bad reception even at the amenity block which the host claimed was OK. But really it was not OK. Not much of a view as well but very good for Mt Hutt trips. Nevertheless, the lounge area is pretty interesting. Has table tennis, badminton, books, puzzles, nice warm couches TV, a good kitchen and workable laundry. The place is creatively decorated with recycled items which I think is cool. DVD hire also reasonably priced at $4. They also have free range eggs from their small collection of chicken. campground is huge and easy to navigate as it remains tidy. Not necessarily the best but certainly adequate and better than average based on value and service.

We stayed this park and found the owner to be pleasant and easy going and found a powered camping site relatively easy. It was dark by the time we arrived and walked into town for a great night out at the Blue Pub and returned back the van quite late and frequently walked back and forwards to the toilet. Once the sun rose in the morning we found we had Dog Poo all threw the van and over our shoes and jeans. As we investigated further there where land mines all over the park and at least 5 still in tack within 5 metres of our van. We were disgusted by this and the locals resident trailer park locals once confronted that we left and vowed to never go back. We would however recommend the Abisko Holiday Park.

Room Tip: Do not stay here and drive on to the Abisko Holiday Park

This is a large fairly basic cheap camp site on the edge of the town. There are not many powered sites but plenty of space for camping and a number of motel rooms. Communal facilities are a little basic as are the showers although there is a lot of hot water. In the summer on a good day, the camp site would be pleasant. On a cold wet day it would be hard work. There is no Wifi, there is a grey dump but no black. The town and shops are a long walk away.
