“Breathtaking!”
Reviewed 13 June 2013

This was an amazing experience getting to see the glacier up close, touch ice that has broken off and become icebergs in the lake and more. With a great view of Mt. Cook in the background its a great place for some amazing photos. There's a bit of a hike in and out of the lake but most definitely worth it.

“More "iceberg explorers" than glacier”
Reviewed 9 May 2013

We booked this as part of the Hermitage Hotel package deal, but still pretty expensive.
The Glacier Explorers Lake experience was very interesting and started as a worthwhile activity, but this turned into a disappointment when the guide who ran the boat did not go up close to the Glacier and stayed at least 500m away; allegedly for safety reasons.
Because all the advertising photo’s show the boat really close (about 20m) to glacier; this appeares to me as false advertising.

“Good trip although slightly overrated”
Reviewed 24 April 2013

We did really enjoy this trip although it was pretty expensive and we felt it was a bit over rated. As previous reviewers mention there is a 5 minute bus ride plus a 20min walk to where you get on the boat. Once on the boat you go around the lake looking at the different iceburgs, which on our trip had mainly all congregated in one area. It was cool how you got to stop at them and touch them and even eat some of the ice, and the blue colours on some of them were amazing. However as someone previously mentinoed, if you do the Hooker Valley trail then you can also see a glacier and iceburgs free of charge, the only thing you can't do is touch them. You also get the fab view of Mount Cook thrown in as well. Had I done this before the tour then I would have been disappointed to have spent so much on the trip but we did enjoy it nevertheless.

“Glacier Explorers - must do”
Reviewed 23 April 2013

Stumbled on reviews of this trip when we were staying at Lake Tekapo and because we were in the area we headed to Mt Cook Village. The drive there was great and we enjoyed the walk up to the lookout. We were so excited by what we saw that we went back to the hotel and were lucky enough to get on a Glacier Explorer trip that afternoon. It was exhilarating to be in the lake to see the glacier and to be up close to the ice bergs and to touch them. Our guide was fantastic and gave us lots of information. A not to be missed experience!

“Best experience - well worth it!!”
Reviewed 16 April 2013

Thank you for a wonderful experience on the glacier lake. Touching the ice bergs and seeing the enormity of them was absolutely amazing. The Guide gave a very informative talk about the glacier and its retreat and of course the fine day helped to make it a memorable trip.
