“great views”
Reviewed 20 October 2013

I was lucky enough to get a standard room with a view, and what a view it is. the room was great, they even have binoculars in the room to view Mount Cook with. They are for purchase, but can be used on your stay. Room spotless, curtains are really thick so those light sleepers wont wake up with any light. No microwave in room, just a kettle and mini bar. I was going to go to the restaurant for the buffet but when informed $62.50 pp I decided my 2 minute noodles will be fine. I knew it would be expensive so I did come prepared. You can ge ta free shuttle to the backpackers in the small town, where there is meant to be nice meals, but it was too cold for us to want to venture out. Lovely stay would stay again. Reception staff were wonderful

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view.

Spectacular location, let down by the average accommodation.

Given the location I had expected more from this hotel, which unfortunately left us feeling that the hotel did not live up to the location. Rooms were OK, restaurant was acceptable, service was what you would expect from a hotel of this type.

Only reason to go back would be due to the location, close to Mount Cook and the Tasman Glacier and the associated activities.

This is an iconic New Zealand hotel and we jumped at the opportunity of staying here for 1 night on a trip through from Christchurch to Queenstown. The location and views from the hotel are stunning however the accommodation is pretty run of the mill - I think, given it's history and the mountaineering history associated with this area, we'd expected something a bit more characterful. That being said, the rooms were perfectly clean and serviceable and the staff were polite and helpful.

We decided to stay here last min as we were passing through mount cook and the weather was getting pretty intense and this looked like the nicest place to stay. Considering it was 2ish 3ish when we arrived after a 5 hour drive..we found that none of the restaurants are open til 6pm so dnt expect a late lunch. The only place to eat was the cafe where i had a cold steak pie..not good. The rooms were pretty average considering what u pay..u have to pay for wifi and get no lil extras included and limited tv channels. The service was great and very nice which apart from the views is the only thing going for this place. Not a fan unfortunately!

Put a 10th floor room on your bucket list - The super king bed and thick topper gave for the best nights sleep ever! The expresso coffee machine in the room so easy to use, awesome shower, the view of mt cook just amazing - the food and service in The Panarama was superb. Treat yourself- you will not be disappointed!

The main negative about staying here is that it's overpriced for the quality of the accommodation - we stayed in a chalet and it's basically a motel-style unit that would be half the price if it were anywhere else in New Zealand. Not that it was bad - it was clean, spacious, warm and comfortable for an overnight stay and had free parking and a shuttle to the main building which runs on demand (it's only a couple of minutes walk but the shuttle is useful if it's raining or on a very cold night!)

The buffet dinner had a good variety of food and was good quality (really liked the game pie and veggie pie) but was slightly overpriced at $65 (in some ways to be expected in a place with a lack of eating options). Drinks in the lounge were more reasonably priced and were a relaxing way to end the day in front of a roaring fire. The breakfast buffet was adequate and was included in the room price.

Staff were all friendly and helpful and there's lots to see and do (assuming the weather is ok).

Although there was low cloud when we were there and Mt Cook wasn't visible it was still a stunning setting with amazing views of the lower mountains.

Booked the Hermitage motel, bit disappointed that it was so far from the hotel, that was not clear when I booked. Room smallish, and had a terrible wet carpet smell. But all in all a nice place to stay, we had a bit of a view of Mt Cook so that was great. Really simple kitchen facilities. Bring everything you need to Mt Cook as there are no shops. Great buffet as we got continental included in the room rate, and the kids were allowed full cooked breakfast, which was yummy.
