“Stayed here a week”
Reviewed 20 December 2013

We stayed here a week in October. Very cosy hostel, very comfortable, didn't feel cramped at any point. Very helpful staff with mini shop behind the reception, handy if you (like me) forgot that mountains don't host supermarkets. Shame about the cost, but what do you expect. Beds very warm at night, only noise comes from outside (particularly if stormy). Kitchen very big, plenty of room for people to prepare meals, as was the dining room. Overall very comfortable, quiet stay.

We picked this place as this is the cheapest accomodation we could find. We stayed for a night. The hostel is cosy. We booked a private room. All rooms share toilets and shower however we did not need to queue for anything at all Clean toilets. No free wifi. Huge kitchen with good equipment. Limited parking spaces. If you drive in late, you probably have to park further. Nevertheless its a great stay on my birthday.

This is a great hostel! We had our own room with a double bed, and a great view of Mount Cook. Bathroom was shared, but it was always clean. Our room was on the upper floor so it was quite all the time we stayed there. Shared kitchen area with lots of space, pots and pans. Staff was friendly and helped out to explain the area, and “what to see”. The room was a bit cold during the night, and there was only a heater with a 5 min timer.
If you are on a budget this is a great choice! The sauna was a bit too cold, but then you are asking two persons from the Nordic  Didn’t spend time in the TV/computer-room but it seemed to have what you needed. Extra plus for the unlimited Wi-Fi! For just a few dollars you could surf as much as you wanted. Not that common around hotels/hostels in NZ.

Actually it's not that bad, the staffs were friendly when I check in but later I thought they were a bit rude. We have 5 people and booked a 8 beds mixed dorm, when we arrived there is a guy in the room and then we just choose which beds we want to sleep at night.

But after dinner when we get back to the room, the guy in the room just tell us the staffs came in and moved 2 of my friends bags on the floor and empty 2 beds for the new check in roommate.

Because this is the first time I lived in the dorm, I am not sure is there any rules when you choose which bed you want to sleep on, what I think is "first come first serve".

We don't mind to switch to other bed if the staff can leave us a note at the door and ask us go to them before they moved our stuffs. Do this without our permission is rude and impolite.

And one more thing, there is NO HOT WATER during the shower. It's Mt.Cook and freezing at night, NO HOT WATER is a joke. Not recommend to someone who is looking for the hostel in Mt.Cook.

Stayed here for a night recently on my trip to NZ. There are a handful of places in Mt Cook village and this one was of the cheaper ones.

We stayed in a twin share room on the first floor. The hostel is kept clean and neat. The lady at the front desk was very warm and helpful.

The rooms are nice and cosy. The toilet and bathroom even though shared were spic span like a hotel. Very impressed.

We didn't spend much time, but it was nice and hassle free. Would recommend this place to anyone with a budget. Btw, Mt. Cook village was the most scenic place on our South Island trip. Absolutely gorgeous.

Loved staying here, the staff were friendly and welcoming and made sure that everything I needed to know was provided. The hostel although dated was kept very clean and had the added bonus of a sauna. Would recommend to anyone.

The hostel was clean and well organised with a good kitchen. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We had a private twin room so can't comment on the dorms, but there seemed to be plenty of washroom/toilet facilities as we never had to queue for them.
Of course, being budget accommodation there are always a few things not quite right, like the lampshade in the bedroom that you hit your head on every time you walk past it. More significantly, the door to our room did not lock reliably (the frame was damaged) but I have every confidence that this will be repaired promptly, judging by how the rest of the building is maintained. Overall, exactly what I expected when I booked it.
