My wife and I stayed here and it has to be one of the most beautiful places to stay in the world. The view of Aoraki from the common area upstairs was breathtaking. There was also a fully appointed kitchen area for cooking meals. The folks that run the lodge are great to work with and very friendly. If and when I ever get back to this part of the world I will make sure to stay here again. Eat at the restaurant across the road; the atmosphere alone is worth the price of the meal.

Five adults and one baby stayed here in this lovely lodge. Plenty of room for everyone, nice aand warm. Very clean and quiet with a great fully equipped kitchen and lounge, even had great toys for the little one. The view from the lounge of Mt Cook was breathtaking and very close. Fabulous restaurant right next door with the best pizza I have ever tasted. We loved our stay here and will be back!

Room Tip: Rooms upstairs all have magnificent views and very quiet.

My family of four (3 adults and 1 child) thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Alpine Lodge and if and when we return to Mt Cook, I would happpily choose to stay there again.

We stayed in an up-stairs, four-bed, family room, and while it was quite 'cosy' having all four of us in a not very big room, the views out the bedroom window more than made up for this. There was a small table and a couple of chairs next to the window, and I found it to be very relaxing sitting next to the window with a hot drink admiring the beautiful view. Also, because of the full-moon, I could admire the mountain all night, even when lying flat in bed. Had it not been a full-moon but still a clear night, we would have been able to watch the stars instead.

The kitchen/living/dining space had an equally impressive view, which made it a much more enjoyable experience to cook and dine in. Surprisingly, we had this space to ourselves a lot, despite the lodge being fully booked out. The kitchen was well-resourced, but just make sure you bring in food supplies from outside of Mt Cook.

The service was polite, but a bit more reserved than I like, and the lodge was clean and tidy.

Value for money, it is mid-range for the Mt Cook area, but expensive in terms of the rest of the country. But given the isolation of the location, and the presumably high costs of bringing in supplies, I can kind of understand why Mt Cook is not the cheapest area to stay. What you are paying for is an amazing view, and that is what we got.

Tip: The Alpine Lodge uses IAC internet just like many other motels, backpackers and holiday parks in the South Island. Before travelling, check out the IAC website to see how many of your other accommodation options use IAC also. Buying a wifi package for your whole trip could work out quite a bit cheaper than paying for it day by day.

My partner and I stayed at the lodge in January 2011 and loved it so much we bought back the whole family (my partner's 3 sons aged 9, 11 and 17) this last January. The rooms may be small but in such a beautiful place and with such a lovely communal lounge room, why would you want to spend much time in your room? We made full use of the lounge room and excellent kitchen facilities. It was great to be able to take our own food and cook for ourselves. Given its isolation, Mt Cook village will always be an expensive place for buy food and so the ability to bring your own is ideal. The lodge is a great base to explore all of the great things Mt Cook has to offer. We'll be back!

At the foot of Mt Cook. Girl at checkin was lacking in people skills, but the little German girl who worked at night was wonderful. Room was nice. The upstairs has a huge kitchen, so that is where you meet alot of other travelers. Not inexpensive, but overall a very nice property. Had a hilarious experience in the morning before breakfast. The fire alarm went off, so we all met outside in front of the building. Turns out it was caused by a rather rotund Austalian man, who burned his sausages! His wife kept saying "it's my husband, he's burned his sausages!!!"
