“Has everything you need, and inexpensive”

While this doesn't compare to some of the other places that we had stayed at while in New Zealand, it was still quite nice. The room was very basic, but clean. It had everything that you needed, to include a basic TV. The common room had nice, comfortable couches, with complementary Tea/Coffee. This was very nice to come back to after a cold hike, and relax in front of the TV on a comfortable couch with a warm cup of tea. Supposedly had great views from the balcony, unfortunately we arrived too late to take part in them. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Honestly, the most comfortable bed on the entire trip. It was close to a lovely restaurant, and within walking distance to the large resort, hiking trails, etc. Great value for the money. Would recommend this to our friends.

Great location with incredible views of Mt Sefton and Mt Cook. We paid NZD220 for a family room which consisted of a double bed, a set of bunks and a small bathroom. Most of the cost must be for the location, as the lodge was basically an upmarket hostel (complete with notices posted around telling you to wash up dishes, throw rubbish away, shut doors quietly, etc) The rooms were spartan, and the communal kitchen, though well equipped was fairly crowded at peak times. Having said that we thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Mount Cook, in particular the walks in the Hooker valley and around the Tasman Lake.

Wow Wow Wow !!!!!!!!!!!

Sunny clear days helped make our stay great but this is one of the absolutely best places we have stayed in on the Planet.

Great service, super facilities and the best alpine views any where in the world.

Highly recommended

It’s a bit of a hike to get here. The lodge rooms are like hostels almost, small but clean. The bathroom is sparse, but clean. The view of the mountains is stunning. There is a very large, comfortable common room and kitchen, which is very nice. Internet was free wireless. I believe they had computers to use if you don’t bring your own. There was coin laundry. There is not much in the village for eats, a café that’s not that good and the Hermitage which was real expensive.

The other reviews on this property are quite comprehensive -- the lodge is a great place to stay in the middle of the remote and beautiful Mt. Cook village. While basic, it's very clean, bright and comfortable, and the common area is a nice place to relax with the view or cook your own breakfast.

If you're staying here, you're more interested in getting outside to explore rather than the amenities offered by a large hotel-style lodge. If that's your speed, you're probably better off at the Hermitage. Even if you do stay at the Mt. Cook Alpine Lodge, you can
always head over to the Hermitage for a nice meal and the resort experience.

This place is lovely and what's more, it's nestled within the beautiful scenery of the Mount Cook national park. A combination of backpacker style dorms and single/double rooms, this place performs well above the usual backpacker hostel lodges you might expect. All the rooms come with ensuite shower rooms. I stayed in a dorm for four which my husband and I had to ourselves. It was immaculately clean with new fittings and fixtures. The main guest room was amazing. Set at the front of the building, we had direct views of Mount Cook. You could look at the mountains while eating breakfast. For those of you that don't know the area, it's advised to shop for food before staying in the lodge in the evening. The area is very remote and has only between 3-4 places to eat which shut fairly early - you also have to make your own meals at the lodge. Great place - highly recommended.

What a friendly, down-to-earth kind of place! We stayed at the Aoraki Mount Cook Alpine Lodge, which opened in July 2005 and is right in Mount Cook Alpine Village, a great location. This homey lodge is easy on the budget, and it is listed in the 5th edition of the Rough Guide New Zealand, published September 2006. It is independently owned and is NOT the same as the Aoraki wing of the Hermitage hotel...they are totally different places.

We loved our room upstairs with a great view of Mt. Cook for $165 NZ! We had our own bathroom, and the room was basic, comfortable, and clean. The view was amazing!

Staff were very friendly and helpful. This new lodge is run by Adele and Tony Delaney. Staff were very helpful by e-mail in helping me to choose a room for our 25th anniversary trip. Tony answered an e-mail I sent asking for more info about scenic flights and gave us great information.

There are also cheaper dorm rooms for $39 NZ. We didn't see the dorm rooms.

Guests at the Aoraki / Mt. Cook Alpine Lodge share a communal kitchen, a homey lounge, and a deck with wonderful views of Mt. Cook by day, and the stars by night. Great views in clear weather.

We had amazing weather for our 25th anniversary! The top of Mt. Cook was totally clear! At night we could see the stars from the deck of the communal lounge at the lodge. We sat on the deck with a bottle of wine which we had brought from Queenstown and enjoyed some romance, mountain style. The deck is shared by all the guests, but we had it to ourselves when we wanted.

Our room was clean and basic, although the view was astonishing for this price. The lodge is very well run. Self-serve laundry is available.

The lodge is an easy walk away from the Visitor Centre and DOC Office and The Old Mountaineers' Cafe as well as the Hermitage Hotel and the beginning of the Kea Point Track.

We will definitely stay here again on our next visit to gorgeous Mt. Cook!
