This building in the Hermitage Hotel has a rip off $20 admission charge You cannot buy a museum - only ticket, just one including lots of films in the price. This is valid for 24 hours but is no good for an overnight stop.

The views are spectacular ....hard to believe that you are looking at such a wonder! Be prepared for a quick change in weather, but you are in the mountains, so what can you expect....grounds are lovely and staff attentive. Worth the drive .....

Some interesting information. But was disappointed with movies. I feel that they should have less movies so they can play each movie more than once day. Each movie should be repeated sevrel times each day .As all the movies my husband and I wanted to see had already played by the time we visited and so we felt we did not get our moneys worth.

This was part of a day trip to the Mount Cook village (area) and the Centre itself is impressive with a few shops and cafes. The museum was closed when we visited and to be honest from what I could see and what I have read on here it could be worth a miss. It looked quite small and it costs nothing to look around the centre itself. That's what we did.
The statue of Sir Edmund Hillary is something quite special and to stand next to is as he looks towards Mount Cook gives you a sense of what it is all about.
If you can get here on a clear day it is well worth the visit and the drive along Highway 80 that runs next to Lake Pukaki is one of the most scenic drives on the South Island. If it's cloudy then its just a drive so check the weather.
We did the drive up from Twizel and its an easy drive. Take your time, plenty of view points on the way.

I was really looking forward to this and have left feeling disappointed and that the trip is overpriced. The man was knowledgeable about what he was talking about but the part in the planetarium became boring. The trip to the star gazing site was hopefully going to be my highlight but queuing with 27 others to have a few second look through only two telescope at 6 different settings was not $60 worth. This was such a shame when the conditions were absolutely perfect despite the cold. In preference I would go to Mt John Observatory in Tekapo.
