We stayed at the cottage from 1st to 3rd dec. My kids absolutely loved the place- no surprise they said it is the highlight of their south Island tour with trampoline, slides and soccer! Great fun.
It is also educational as Pete gave a personal guided tour with no end of stories and jokes. Gayle's lovely home made pastries - yummy!

Room Tip: the cottage is great for family with kids

We stayed overnight at Pete's in their very comfortable, clean and quiet cottage. We were four adults and two small children ages 7 and 5yrs old. They arranged a shuttle for us to and from Christchurch which was very helpful. We arrived and Pete greeted us with his warm and friendly manner. The kids immediately started jumping on the trampoline setup just outside the cottage.

Pete met up with us again a short while later and we headed off into the field to a very hungry lamb who we all fed from a bottle. Then we fed the rest of the sheep pellets by hand. The kids loved it. Next we were off to another field where Pete's sheep dog rounded up about eight sheep into the sheering house where we all headed in to shear one of them. First we had to wrangle out a sheep, so my 7yr old son tried first - then Pete showed him how it is done. Once we had a very fury sheep, Pete began to shear it and then we all got a chance to shear it a bit. Lots of fun for us all.

Next we headed over to the alpacas and fed them some food as well. They were fun too.

Pete's wife Gaye then showed us some of her and her friends handy work with all hand spun wool. Her hand knitted products are amazing.

We retired to our cottage and made dinner while we watched one of Pete's sons cut the hay in the field right in front of the cottage.

Next morning Gaye had a wonderful breakfast setup for us all and we all enjoyed having coffee, tea and nice conversation.

Then we were off for the rest of our NZ adventure. We highly recommend Pete's Farm Stay. Was just what we hoped for and a little more.

A more welcoming couple it would be hard to meet.
Nice modern rooms on a working farm. Ideal for kids with not just animals and Pete's farm tour but also a small homemade playground.
Highly recommended and a shame we couldn't fit in another night....

We ended our family holiday at Pete's, staying for 3 nights in the well appointed, clean, self-contained cottage. Our children enjoyed the experience even more than us. Peter and Gaye were lovely, accommodating hosts and we would not only recommend them but will stay again on our next visit to Christchurch

On the last night of our New Zealand holiday we stayed with Pete and Gaye and had the most lovely and uplifting experience. The homestead is situated on a beautiful, open spaced farm surrounded by sheep, alpacas and mountains in the distance. Our (almost) two year old absolutely loved it. Out of our whole trip, he was happiest here... Running free in the paddocks. We stayed in the cottage, but really enjoyed interacting with Gaye, Pete and a few of the other travellers staying in the main house. Gaye's salmon was one of the nicest foods we ate in NZ... Buttery, moist, with herbs... We went back for seconds! Pete's tour of the property was fantastic.. He's a good bloke! After staying in hotels and apartments it was nice to stay in a place which felt like a home away from home. Our son also still talks about the "Baa's" and "Woofs", and I am sure interacting with the animals has had such a positive impact on him. Oh yes... and I really loved the soaps and other products in the bathroom! Lovely scents and made out of natural oils/ingredients. Being in this special and welcoming environment certainly raised our spirits and now we look back fondly on our time here.

Room Tip: The cottage is a winner if you want your own privacy, although there are rooms where immediate acces...

Gaye and Pete are great hosts and knowledgeable about NZ and farm life. We had a great time there, staying our first days in NZ there and then our last days as well due to the kids requesting more time with the sheep, trampoline, and telling Gaye and Pete about our adventures. I would definitely recommend this farm stay to families as a must do while in NZ to experience Kiwi fun. Plus as a bonus they have the best showers (pressure and temperature) around. We enjoyed the cottage as well as rooms in the main house. It was fun visiting with other guest too.

Being rather independent/private people, we had never stayed at a B&B before, so were extremely impressed with Pete's farm. Pete and Gaye have all the amenities and quality of service of a hotel, but with added space, hospitality and farm animals. Their farm is very close to Christchurch, some great wineries, Aurthur's Pass and some good local towns. We had no trouble keeping ourselves amused, while also having the space and comfort to relax when needed. Plus we had the best sleep we've had in months! Memorable stay!
