The area is very quiet and for those seeking that is an OK place to visit. There are a few villages around the lake and on the north side of the lake they have nice amphitheatrical views. We visited Ano Poroia and Kato Poroia. Ano was good for a coffee in the main square. At Kato Poroia we dined at a nice authentic restaurant called "To Kioski" which was value for money. You need a car to get to the lake area and to get around. Be careful of the roaming animals on the roads especially at night. We found a dog and then a horse in the middle of he road at midnight. The lake itself is in fact a dam (ie artificial lake) but he wildlife and especially birds, horses, buffaloes and goats are abundant.
The hotel is mediocre. The restaurant area is beautiful mainly due to the view but the rooms which are on a separate building further up on the hill are comfortable but nothing special. This is good as they often host weddings and you might want to sleep. The hotel lacks a swimming pool, though I understand they plan to build one or more. Both restaurant and rooms have a direct, unobstracted view of the lake.
My feeling was that tourist activities in the area are still under development so you need to be prepared well to fully enjoy our visit. Don't expect many restaurant in the area, a buzzing local life or entertainment provided for you. For us the location was a bit too quiet.
