As we visit the Wheatsheaf everytime we're in the area (& really look forward to it as we've never had a bad meal there) we were, I'm sorry to say, a teeny bit disappointed in the service received on ordering this time. I absolutely should have spoken to Shane or Debbie at the time, as I'm sure they would have rectified things immediately but it was a fairly minor thing, considering the normal great food quality, service and value, so we just got on with our meal.
The "soup of the the day" was changed (apparently) just as we ordered; from tomato and basil to leek and potato. The server (lady with glasses and dark hair) informed my husband he was getting the last tomato soup; he very politely asked if he may have the leek and potato, as he would prefer that and was told, "No, they won't let me do that, they'll have started to heat it up"....?? We didn't see this lady again during our visit. I suspect that it was the end of her shift and she maybe didn't "have the energy" to go and change our order? Anyway, this got us off to a slightly shaky start as I've always found the servers extremely accomodating in whatever you wish to order at the Wheatsheaf.
The servers who dealt with us after this (Romany - thank you! and the young guy with glasses, sorry, didn't get his name but he's been there for years and is an asset to the place) were in a different league - pleasant, friendly, efficient and polite and the food was absolutely fabulous. The chicken, gammon and mustard pie was out of this world! soo tasty. Desserts too, were amazing - Red Velvet Cheescake and Apple & Pumpkin Crumble... YUM.
So thank you, Shane and Debbie; we will definately return and just hope that perhaps that first lady has some retraining before then.
