Great food and atmosphere

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 16 May 2017
We went mid week and was welcomed by happy and helpful staff even though it was very busy. We ordered mains which were served quickly and the food was great. We were staying at the caravan club site nearby which also has a benefit of 10% discount. We had a very enjoyable evening with a great atmosphere. Will definitely return on our next holiday?

Stayed here for one night a couple of weeks ago. Restaurant was very busy when we arrived in the early evening. We took a short walk, had a drink in the pub over the road and returned for our meal. Nice pub food at reasonable prices but very good service.

Breakfast the next morning was the same, lovely toast with the full English and again good service. Well done to all concerned

Visited the Wheatsheaf yesterday evening having been frightened by the menu prices at the Devonshire up the road. Walked in at 7pm to a busy pub. Friendly welcome, orders taken and served quickly. Two mains (gammon steak, sirloin beef steak + sides), one dessert (hot rhubarb and raspberry sponge with ice cream), two pints bitter, one half shandy. £35 but even better value with 10% discount on Caravan Club card. Great value, great food, great beer and friendly efficient service. Nice atmosphere. Lovely. (No advance bookings btw, they'll fit you in).

Our visit was a short midweek stay while visiting the area. This is an old building with character, although there are no lifts the staff offered to carry the suitcases up to the first floor. The bedroom was clean and welcoming, the bed comfy and shower excellent. The breakfast consisted of sausage, bacon, tomato, beans, egg and hash brown with toast and a choice of tea and coffee. Cereals, fruit and juice were available to start. Breakfast was held in the conservatory which was very pleasant. We were very impressed with the waiter service . We would certainly stay again

Room tip: The room we stayed was near the main road (with heavy traffic) I would request the other side of the hotel next time we stayed.

Called in here on Saturday following a walk around the Baslow area. The waiter service was extremely prompt and efficient leaving us very impressed. The food was also very good, typical pub grub again with a very swift service. Will definitely visit again when in the area.

Rooms are spacious although in need of modernisation. Staff friendly and attentive, good breakfast and a busy pub. Can be noisy in the morning from the pub and main road as no double glazing with early morning deliveries and lorries passing could disturb some guests.
Lovely little area with plenty of parking and a nice beer garden
