Great garden

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 2 Sept 2017via mobile
This is a Marstons chain property. We visited Saturday lunchtime with our 5 year old grandson and the place was packed. It is especially popular with families with young children in nice weather as they enjoy the large enclosed garden with lots of outside seating and play facilities. We enjoyed our brief visit. Service was prompt, food was acceptable and staff were friendly. Will certainly revisit.

Staying on the caravan club on Chatsworth estate and treated ourselves to early tea out on arrival day (bank holiday Friday). Staff couldn't have been any friendlier and were also very efficient. Service was quick but the food was delicious ...the fish was moist and very tasty whilst my husband's gammon was equally tasty and a good portion size.
Last year we ate over the road at the Devonshire ....for us -no contest - Wheatsheaf all the way!

Very disappointed, we often visit the wheatsheaf with our 3 kids who love the play area outside , unfortunately the last two times we have been the bar service had been extremely poor , yesterday we found it difficult ordering desserts for our kids due to the staff rushing us , and then when I returned a flat pint of lager to the bar , this was the final straw , he poured it into another two different pint glasses and then gave it back to me !! I asked if he could top it up which was met by a sigh , the woman who brought the desserts to the table could not have been any nicer and needless to say the order was wrong !! She then said she would mention it to the manager who never had the decency to come out and speak to us , there are plenty of nice places for the kids to play at in the Peak District, sadly to say we won't be back .

Stayed there for the Bakewell baking festival, nice room if a bit small, food was lovely so was breakfast. Friendly staff, only minor issue was the room was a bit noisy from the road but we managed fine, would visit again

Decided at short notice to eat out so chose the Wheatsheaf as it is large enough not to worry ( normally) about ore- booking . Although it was a Sunday only if if us went for the roast - A half chicken with a huge Yorkshire pud and loads of veg in this case. My lad had spent a wet weekend at a festival and decided he was starving so he attacked the 20oz mixed grill - it nearly finished him off but he triumphed in the end. I didn't think he'd manage it all. I wast so hungry and went for the Burger with Piri Piri jam- this came with chips and slaw and was very tasty. Sadly we couldn't make room for desert but it was a really nice lunch. Always plenty of choice and nicely prepared.

We stayed in the hotel for a short visit to the Peak District. It is very welcoming pub/hotel. Our room was a very good size and very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. Overall a very good base for a visit to the Peak District.
