We stayed here last night and had the 10 course taster menu , the food was fantastic and everything we hoped it would be the staff were the best ever attentive imformative and very friendly, we stayed the night and had a complimentary upgrade the room was lovely and whilst we had dinner the room was cleaned and the bed turned down. The stay was a present to ourselves for our joint 60th birthdays we hopefully will be returning again very soon. Thank you Fischers you and your staff are excellent.

We had lunch at the Fischers restuarant in Baslow Hall Derbyshire. The two and three course lunch menu was very reasonably priced with good selection together with vegetarian options. The quality of produce used and cooking was faultless, with polite, efficient service . The gardens were superbly maintained and looked beautiful in the glorious sunshine we enjoyed .

Our party of 14 experienced the Taste of Britain 7 course taster meal in a private room.
We all had a fantastic time, the staff were brilliant.
Big thanks to all the staff who made the day special.
Also a big thanks to Amy for organising the meal.
It was my partners 50th birthday party, she loved it

I've had two lovely dinners at Fischer's, where the service is flawless and the atmosphere and place itself are fantastic. The food is of a great quality, but I have had two dishes that were made significantly worse by the bizarre addition of BBQ sauce (one of these dishes was scallops) and the lamb main course I had on the most recent occasion was completely overwhelmed by the lemon paste. I understand trying to put a modern twist on classic food, but sometimes it doesn't quite work! Having said that, the canapés before the meal, my party's food in general and the desserts were fantastic. It's definitely the best restaurant in the area.

My husband and I visited for lunch, and had the Taste of Britain lunch tasting menu - £50 for 6 courses (plus the amuse bouche they give everyone), which we thought was excellent value for the amount and quality of the food. They were very flexible given that it was a tasting menu, not only accommodating my husband's shellfish allergy (swapping a scallop for a piece of John Dory, and keeping the sides the same, rather than just swapping for a veggie dish like many places do), but also letting us swap one of the courses for a mini version of the quail starter on the a la carte menu, because we were torn between the two menus.

Almost all the food was excellent - beautifully cooked and presented dishes full of seasonal ingredients, designed with imagination and flair but without being over-complicated for the sake of it. Highlights were the quail, the scallop, the seedling vegetables (much more exciting than it sounds!) and the chocolate log dessert. The only disappointment was the lamb main - I found it bland, unimaginative, and not very well cooked, which was hugely surprising given the quality of everything else we had. The staff dealt with the issue with professionalism and sincerity, though, which made all the difference.

They pulled off all the small things really well, too, from bread to coffee (both plentiful and excellent), and from the professional but not over-formal service, to the great wine list (lots of variety, with lots of good value bottles, and helpful, clear descriptions). The setting is lovely, in traditional country house style with flowery but not fusty interiors and beautiful gardens (where we had pre-dinner drinks). And when we let them know we were driving back to London after lunch, they kept up a brisk but not hurried pace, so we got through the whole menu in two hours.

We stayed in the cottage owned by the hotel owners, about 10 minutes drive away (Cruck Barn), and we loved both our accommodation and food so much that we're already planning to come back.
