We enjoyed our recent visit to Fischers. We had the three course set lunch which included loin of rabbit with summer vegetables and pork belly with black pudding. The sauces had a superb depth of flavour and everything was cooked and seasoned to perfection. House wine was £24 and was served by the glass. We considered our menu was very reasonably priced considering the quality of the meal. The a la carte was much pricier and featured more expensive ingredients. The service was faultless, efficient without being obtrusive. The ambience was sedate and it probably would not be a good choice for those who may like a lively evening although there did seem to be opportunities for hiring one room for a group.

Glorious English country house surroundings, exceptionally efficient and professional staff and a meal that we will remember for a long time. The food was adventurous, original and superbly executed. It made our wedding anniversary very special.

We've been just for dinner before but decided to stay overnight this time.

They make no secret of the fact that several of the rooms are small and so they are. But it's not a problem for one night. Room was comfortable, although folk who do not like very hard beds might think differently. Lots of hot water, good shower pressure, robes are what you might expect at this price point and you're not disappointed. There's a turn-down service while you're at dinner. Breakfast was fine with good coffee.

As for dinner, the restaurant has a Michelin star. We don't have too many in the north west and surrounding counties and we've eaten at all of them. Truth be told, on our experience, I'd reckon that Baslow is probably just clinging on to its star. It's not that there's anything really bad about it - but there were some flavour combinations that just didnt work and execution missed out in some aspects throughout the meal. As with our previous experiences eating there, it's all generally OK but nothing of the "WOW factor" that you might rightly expect at that level of cooking.

We found this restaurant in the Michelin guide and with one star, knew we were in for a treat! We tried the 'Taste of Britain' taster menu, which was fantastic. Everything was very flavoursome and creative. The stand out dish for us was the Tempura of Quail - cooked wonderfully. We liked the fact that the restaurant sources a lot of produce from its kitchen garden, which you can wander round at your leisure. We didn't have the wine pairings but enjoyed a bottle of red from the extensive wine list. The restaurant was full - every table taken and after the meals, everyone retired to the lounge for coffee and chocolates. The staff were very attentive and friendly.
The breakfast the following day was wonderful - lots of poached fruit from the gardens, granola, yoghurt and juices with a hot menu to follow. The full English breakfast was very tasty and they serve great coffee.
If you're looking for something special in the Peak District look no further!

Last time we visited Fischer's, we stayed the night, and enjoyed our evening meal with heavy snow falling outside. It was a very special experience. We returned for lunch to celebrate our wedding anniversary on 5th August. We were not disappointed. The location is superb, with fantastic gardens. The hosts and staff are welcoming, and service was very efficient. Our meal was to a very high standard, so all in all we had a lovely time there and a great anniversary lunch!
