One of the few affordable hotels in the area for going on a ski trip in les vallées. The hotel is conveniently located at walking distance from the skilifts.
Hotel personnel was very friendly and the rooms were very clean. They have a nice bar with a wooden fire. Breakfast was simple but good. We didn't try the restaurant.

My husband came in March on a back country course and we have returned as a family. We have loved Le Deserteur and Fiona's hospitality - comfortable rooms, flat screen TVs with plenty of choice for the children, location fabulous for exploring the local area - we enjoyed cycling, walking and fun evenings out. Would certainly recommend the hotel and the resort.

The hotel is well located, on the main road, about 10 mins walk (albeit uphill) from the telecabine ski lift (the only one at village level), and next to a ski hire shop, bar, bus stop and small supermarket.

The rear bedrooms have a great view over the valley below. However, the front bedrooms face the road, and are subject to noise from people leaving the bar late at night. If you are a night owl, you should be aware that the front door is locked after midnight, and you'll have to bring your key with you to enter through the back door (which also accesses the ski boot room).

The public rooms are well sized, with plenty of sitting room in the bar and adjacent lounge. Several nights there were football or rugby matches being aired on a large TV in the bar, which was fine if you were a fan (from Britain), but otherwise could be an early evening nuisance due to the volume of the TV and supporters.

The staff were friendly and helpful, though speaking a little French would be useful for English speaking guests, as some staff had either no or limited English. I arrived early, and the girl on the desk was particularly helpful, immediately finding out if my room had been cleaned and ready for occupation (delighted to say it was!).

My room was well maintained and sized, with everything you could reasonably expect in a moderately priced hotel, including a fairly large wardrobe, writing desk, flat screen TV and iPod docking station bedside alarm. The bathroom was however very small, with the toilet and wash hand basin crammed up against either side of the shower. It would have been better to steal some space off the bedroom to make the bathroom a little larger. That aside, I was happy with the room, being clean, comfortable, and quiet.

The only real negative of the hotel was the food. Of minor concern, the choice at (buffet) breakfast was fairly limited, although what was available was of good quality. As ever on the continent, tea was a problem, as it could only be made with hot water from a flask, instead of boiling water. The major concern was with the evening meals. The offerings were mostly unimaginative and stuck in the past. The main course was either of the meat and two veg sort, or throwbacks like raclette and fondue (both served with just boiled potatoes!).

That said, the cost of my stay was reasonable, so I wasn't expecting perfection. In most respects I was very pleased by the hotel and particularly it's staff, so I would recommend it to prospective guests.

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper, then I suggest you try to get a room at the rear of the hotel.

Dear Guest

Thank you for your review , the feedback of which we really appreciate

We reply as follows:

We are very pleased that you found our team members helpful , the hotel clean and tidy, the rooms well maintained and sized.

We are reviewing the breakfast menu as a number of our English guests this season have commented that our Swiss continental breakfast is too basic. This will be improved.

With respect to the evening meal we are sorry that you found the menu unimaginative and that the raclette and fondues you believe to be throwbacks. We would comment that we have had great feedback from the majority of winter guests on the make up of the menu and in particular the traditional Valais dishes of raclette and fondue. We will however review the menu following your comments

Once again thankyou for your comments, all of which we take seriously as we do want to constantly improve our offering.

Thank you for your recommendation of our hotel.

Kind regards

Good food, convenient location and helpful staff make this a wise choice for Nendaz. Post bus stops outside for transfers fron Sion railway station. If using the ski bus to Sivez its best to board at the telecabin as not all drivers will stop at stop adjacent to hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a room with a balcony for afternoon sun.

Hotel is in a convenient spot. Next to the bus stop from Sion. 5 minutes stroll from the ski lift and the ski bus. the hotel staff are superb, resulting in a really nice atmosphere. A good resort to link to Verbier.

Dear Guest

Thank you very much for your review of our hotel

We are really glad you found all our team members superb and the atmosphere really nice as this is what we strive to achieve

Equally we are really pleased you found the location convenient and a good resort link to Verbier , as this is exactly the reason we bought this hotel due to its central location in Nendaz with great links to Siviez Verbier, Veysonnaz, Thyon and Tsoumaz ski areas as well as the immediate Nendaz ski area. We thought that our clients would appreciate this too, and it is great to hear that you do; certainly my whole family has been skiing this area for the last 30 years and still due to the size of the 4 Vallees find the breadth of different terrain to ski exciting after all these years

Thank you for your recommendation it is most appreciated

kind regards

We booked into the Hotel on a very good value 5 day package . Rooms are clean , beds comfy , staff very pleasant.

Bus stops just outside Hotel from Sion. Courtesy Bus to the telecabine (which in any event is only 150 mtrs away ) stops just across the road.

We would certainly stay there again if we are skiing the 4 valleys.

Room Tip: If you are not high maintenance and are looking to stay in a good value no frills location then this...
