“fun and relaxation at the Hameau mountain lodge”
Reviewed 25 March 2013

So we finally got the chance to return to the Hameau Mountain Lodge. This time in winter to experience the great ski in ski out location. We had a great time, a lot of snow and sun. I love a ski vacation in March because the snow is perfect and it is much warmer than January and February. We slept in the skier room Völkl. It is a cozy room in a cute swiss style. The room was very clean and also the bathroom was new, clean and cozy. The breakfast is great and the restaurant has an amazing view over the Alps. During breakfast do not forget to try the wonderfull swiss cheeses and meats.

The location of the hotel is perfect. It is in a quiet hamlet and right on the slopes! The Hamau also has a skibar on the slopes where you can enjoy a drink and sit in the sun before heading back to the hotel. I love that the hotel is not in the village but a bit higher up. This gives you the real vacation feeling. We will definitely go again next year.

Room Tip: If you can you should stay in the Mazot this is a romatic little chalet for just to people.

The perfect hideaway for a Valentines treat right on the slope! We stayed in Kjus which has a sunny patio facing the slope and is just a few paces from the outdoor hot tub (what a great way to relax, complete with mountain view)! The accommodation was modern and toasty warm with a fabulous huge walk-in shower. Whilst we would recommend this lodge, the stairs to the bedroom are very steep, you have been warned!
There is a fabulous team working there this season - Ida showed endless patience with us on arrival when we couldn't get the car up the last section of road to the Lodge car park. You WILL need snow chains!!! Ashley, our talented chef, concocted the most amazing mouth watering meals each night, lots of creative menu plans and a genuine interest in our enjoyment of them. Its refreshing to find a chef on the slopes who has a real passion for his work in addition to being a happy, friendly front-of-house man too. If the owner hadn't popped her head in for 5 mins one day, we would have left believing this was Ashley and Ida's hotel, they took such efforts to ensure we felt welcome and at home there. Thanks guys!

We stayed at Hameau Lodge in the small "Le Mazot" chalet for 4 days. This was an excellent location, set next to the piste, real in and out ski with just a few minutes down the slope to get to the telecabine. The views were stunning and the chalet was very cosy and warm.

The food was great, Ashley is a great chef! And Ida and the rest of the team took really great care of us, picked us up from the village, were really warm and friendly and dropped us off for our return journey.

One thing is if you are not very good at skiing bare in mind that the slope that leads to the telecabine is very steep and not for beginners. This can make it difficult as it restricts your ski in/out and means a 20minutes walk down to the village everyday and a 30minutes walk up.

Overall we thought this was a stunning place and would love to return.

Thanks to Ida and the team

Lovely setting above Nendaz. Genuine ski - in / out with some lovely skiing locally.
Great area 4 valleys, albeit you need to be intermediate + to cover ground and link with other areas.
Very pleasant staff, helpful and relaxed environment. Thank you Ashley and Ida, Eric ..for great food and hospitality.
Mountain food in the area some of the best we've had. (Nearest Of note - chalet des alpes near Prarion lift)

Not so good...
Rooms in the main house ( skier Rooms and Le loft ) don't really work, there is no definition between these two spaces and they are only separated by an open stairwell (actually a ladder arrangement).
Bathroom in loft room not great, shower needs attention as clearly finished off by poor DIY ...It did work thankfully with plenty of hot water always available.
You are above Nendaz resort here, so part from one small local Bar You have to make it down into The town by walking if you don't have a car.
The walk back is not a five minute affair, and piste too steep to walk on. No arrangements in place to get you there and back if required, say after a meal..

Verdict..
This area has a lot going for it, and would stay at Hameau les cleves again. Give the accommodation in main house a miss.

My husband and I stayed at Hameau Mountain Lodge (Hameau les Cleves) last week for our late honeymoon after reading a review of the lodge in the Guardian and absolutely loved our week in this gorgeous chalet in the Swiss mountains.. The lodge is located perfectly on piste (only a short descent to the gondola in Haute Nendaz) with stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valley below. We stayed in the lovely "Mazot" just for the 2 of us which was warm, cosy and romantic. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful (Ida, Stina & Olly) and Ashley the chef is so talented. The food was amazing from the fresh alpine breakfast each morning to the sumptuous 3 course evening meal (including canapés on 2 occasions) and not forgetting delicious cake on our return from a long day skiing. The local bar "Ski Bar Le Bob" is a short walk away from the chalet with great music, great beer (and mulled wine) and a great atmosphere. This is a great place to stay - cannot recommend highly enough!

I loved our stay at Hameau Les Cleves. The staff are friendly and helpful, the rooms are great and the views are truly amazing. Great place to stay for an adventurous couple.

Room Tip: Le Mazot is furnished beautifully and the location is right on the slopes.

We stayed for one week, at the recommendation of friends who saw Hameau Les Cleves last year, and encouraged us to go with them this year.
We were not disappointed, and actually delighted with the experience and a few surprises.
There are a variety of accommodations, so be sure to look into the variety and ask about details and other features and guests (they say that in some accommodations, they know to only place groups that know one another). We had the grange suites chalet with the two adjoining spaces (Kjus and Zdar). There is a living room and bath on the first floor, and a sleeping bedroom up the steep ladder/stairs (no problem, if you can ski, you can climb the stairs). It was perfect for two couples that know one another, as the living rooms have an adjoining door for interaction, but the bedrooms are private (a bit of muffled noise through the wall to be honest, but we're friends !)
The location for skiing is great... just ski down 200 meters to the gondola in the morning, and ski right to the chalet in the afternoon. They have a ski room to store ski equipment. And, they come to the parking lot to pick you up... I can't spoil the fun, but it's incredibly unique and sets the laid-back tone for the week of skiing.
The main lodge is comfortable, and includes the dining room, as breakfast and dinner meals are included (at this time). The breakfast is good, and a great lodge feeling. Just good food to get you started.
Afternoon, there is coffee / tea, and homemade cake available, which was a great break in the afternoon.
Then after a day of skiing, maybe a soak in the hot tub, a nap overlooking the slopes or the valley, and you are prepared for a delightful dinner.
The current chef, Tom, is excellent in our opinion. Each meal was unique, fresh, and perfect combinations and portions. There is no "routine" for Tom... he really creates each meal to fit perfectly with the setting. Others have complained on Trip Advisor of quality or service... but we have no complaints, and only praise. The best we can think is that "before" as the owners and managers say, they were an open restaurant, and could be overwhelmed on a particular night. For us, all went smoothly, a good pace to appetizers, dinner, and dessert. Evenings were fun, and each night was as good, or better, than the night before.
The hosts / servers (at the time, Victor and Jenny) are excellent, social, polite, and friendly. Just the right amount of friendliness, local insights, and both well-traveled and interesting to talk with. All three made a great team together, and the dinners flowed well, besides being fresh, warm creations.
This place may not be for everyone, but it certainly was great for us.

Room Tip: Look into the variety of arrangements, and ask the manager / hosts for insights if you have concerns...
