“NOT the Barcelo Castillo Beach Club but very nice all the same!”
Reviewed 6 November 2013

So when we booked this through Interval International, we were under the impression that we were staying at the Barcelo resort of the same name (my fault, not theirs!) and when we turned up at the wrong check in they were very snobby about it! This made us think that the 'correct' resort was going to be very down market and first appearances were not reassuring as all the security fences etc could do with some tlc. The actual resort (we stayed in 'LAKE') is more than adequate, and as others have said, the kitchen possibly has more features than ours at home does. The cottages were comfy for 2 of us plus one child, more would have been a squeeze. The only downside to our visit in November was that some of the facilities were not open, or open for shorter hours than advertised, as it was very much off season.

We used the basketball courts and pool, but did not have time to visit the gym or use the tennis courts. It would have helped if equipment was available to hire.

Caleta de Fuste itself is a purpose built holiday 'town' and so lacks character, and the area is a little dull, but there is excellent transport to other towns/villages with more character or better scenery and as it is in the middle of the island, everything is within easy reach for a day out.

If your looking for good well maintained accommodation this is not the place for you.If your looking for somewhere cheap to crash out in the evening to sleep then its OK.We stayed here for a week and it just about met our basic needs,The kitchen and equipment is tired and requires updating ,the decor is in urgent need of attention ,The supplied towels and bed linen was a disgrace both were threadbare one lot of sheets had massive holes in!The maid came in twice in the week but you could not tell what she had done. The pool is OK but once outside the complex it looks like a building site until you get nearer to the main road into town.

Room Tip: Accommodation farther down the hill nearer to the main road on other complex,s seem to be better m...

The Castillo beach complexes comprises of 5 seperate sites in the same area, about 3/4 of a mile from the town centre half way up a hill but easilly walkable into town. One of these complexes (Lake) is a home ownership site (timeshare) the others are closed except for 1 or 2 private bungalows and for very busy summer periods. Lake is very well appointed two swimming pools joined by a flowing waterpool between them. The accommodation is comfortable with full cooker, hob, combi microwave, TV showing mainly foreign programmes, iron, coffee and juice maker etc. double bed, seperate bathroom with bath and shower and toilet, Sofa beds are being replaced with a more comfortable one. Each bungalow has a terrace with a table, chaies and sun brolly. Grounds are very pretty with colourful bushes and palm trees. The whole of Lake is surrounded by a un-obtrusive security fence which requires a electroniv key to enter. No security problems since this fence was built and very very safe outside the site and in town. The security fence keeps the locals out at weekends. Lake should not be compared with the other sites as they do not have the equiptment or comfort of Lake. The security fence on Moon site opposite Lake has the security gates left open permantly so as not to give them an electronic key which they could use to enter Lake. Been going there for 20 years.

Room Tip: Some bungalows around pool but individual bungalows can't be selected although time share transf...

The Castillo Beach Puerto Bungalows were very conveniently located - on the corner by The Windmill (although that venue was terrible, we walked out as no service). 5 mins to bars and beach. The bungalows are a little dated, and ours were only cleaned twice in a week, and towels only changed 3 times - not great and definitely something they need to improve on. The beds were very lumpy!! No kettle, just saucepans - but at least a hob. The two pool areas were lovely - our bungalow lead straight out onto the pool area. Clientele mainly seemed Spanish. Quite close to airport - planes flying overhead fairly frequently, but got used to them. There was a small bar area (which we did not use) and a games table, but no other facilities. The reception is only open until 1pm although the Welsh receptionist was very friendly.
We were dropped off at another complex up the hill initially, where we had to obtain they key and then they provided a taxi to these bungalows - we didn't know this was going to happen. They said we would be picked up for the transfer from our bungalows, but this didn't happen either - at least a taxi only cost €12.
O'Connors Irish Bar definitely the best - the Paddywacks were great!!

Room Tip: Room 25 - right by kids pool, which is right next to the main pool. Shady in the morn, but sunny in...

Recently got back from here and the bungalows were great! Yes they are a bit dated but they are clean and well looked after!! The pool area was nice! We had pool view which was good!! the complex had football courts, tennis courts and a gym!! There is a supermarket just down the road!! The beach and bars are a 10 minute walk which didn't bother us!! We had a fab time and enjoyed fuerteventura!! Would defo recommend Lins cafe for breakfast!!!!

Simply perfect !! Take no notice of any bad reviews this place is beautiful. Bungalows are quite basic but very clean ask to stay near the road its really quiet there. There's a few lovely bars just around the corner that you must try there called The Broadway and Early doors which by the way serves lovely homemade food and best ever homemade chips. Your sure to get a warm welcome.

Room Tip: Rooms near the road where quiet.

unfortunately i made a big mistake when i booked these apts, did not realise till we arrived that i had booked wrong place (should have been barcelo castiilo beach resort). this place was very old + dated + no facilities nearby, cockroach in bathroom on first night couldn't sleep. Had stayed in barcello about 14 yrs ago + knew it had to be better so we booked ourselves in there the second day + had a beautiful holiday. just hope no one else makes an expensive mistake like this.
