“great appartments, usual Barcelo standard”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2014

Stayed here in 3012 for a week in May 2014, the appartment was the usual Barcelo standard, very clean with everything required, extremely comfartble beds, the pools were very nice, our cleaner came every day, just a pity we missed her on our last day to thank her for her service, as we wre self catering we dint use the hotel resturant, but there a plenty of resturants, cafes and a hyperdino nearby, would definatly return again

We holidayed at the Castillo Beach for the second time in late April. Again we were self catering and did not use many of the hotels facilities. Our bungalow was very attractive and well appointed. However, a few more cooking utensils and a small pot would have been welcomed. The only downside was the TV reception which kept breaking up and made it impossible to watch just about anything. We didn't go on holiday to watch TV but catching up with the news and a few other things would have been useful.

Room Tip: When you make a booking it is essential to contact the hotel to ensure you get the accommodation you...

We stayed for one week in the Puerto de Castillo complex, which is a sister complex just across the road from the Barcelo Castillo. Puerto de Castillo is basically a walled in compex with around 20 or 30 one bedroom apartments arranged around a tasteful courtyard with a heated swimming pool. If you stay at Puerto de Castillo you still get to use all the main Barcelo Castillo Resort facilities and dine in the same restaurant etc - it is literally just a few minutes walk from the main resort and probably as close as many of the bungalow units are.

Our one bedroom apartment was spacious, clean and quiet at night. There was some building work going on next door that generated some noise during the day. Bedroom is spacious but the beds are a bit less comfortable than what you might expect in a hotel like this. The heated swimming pool at this compex was great and kept our 4 year old and one year old entertained for hours on end. The compex is next to the harbour and the start of the boardwalk with all sorts of activities available including mini-golf, a pirate ship, boats to rent and cruises etc. Beach was nearby and also had lots of activities on it including volley ball etc.

You could self-cater up to a point on the basic stove and with basic utensils provided. We opted for half-board however and found the hotel food to be excellent at breakfast and dinner. The variety of food was easily enough to keep you coming back each day on a one-week stay - not sure what would happen for a two week stay. We visited during the Easter school holidays and the buffet restaurant was very crowded and felt quite pressured at time in terms of queueing to get food. However the large volume of people also meant that the catering staff had a huge variety of food on offer - freshly made omelettes at breakfast and a range of freshly-cooked foods at dinner time also.

The children's mini club was OK. It caters to children from 4 up to 12 and offer activities for 2-3 hours each morning and afternoon. However this facility is combined with that of another adjacent hotel, the Barcelo Fuerteventura, and it can be confusing to find the meeting point and get through the large scrum of children that are present.

Overall I would recommend this hotel highly for young families, mainly because of all the activities for children and the variety and quality of the food on offer. The accomodation is adequate but a bit unremarkable in my opinion. There is loads to do at this resort and you could easily spend a week here without feeling the need to visit any other part of the island. it is also very near to the airport for transfers.

Room Tip: Puerto de Castillo is adjacent to the main resort and consists of one-bedroom apartments arranged ar...

First arrived to be book into our superior bungalow, which was 1108 on the sea front over the road, but was very disappointed this was certainly not 4 star superior.

The room was basic a run down old trolley with the tv on , no coffee table & bedroom was dark.
The terrace was over looked by the crazy golf & very windy.

After 3 nights we decided to ask at reception to upgrade , they showed us one of there deluxe junior suites which was another 35 euros a night. We decided it was worth it because of the jacuzzi bath of the terrace so took 5029.

The room was open plan with 2 single beds pushed together , a sofa plus 2 tvs . One in seating area & one in bedroom area.
Plus table & chairs but still no coffee table so big open space in room but no where to put anything down.

The cleaning of the room was not good , in our first room the was a big stain down the bathroom door inside would not even like to say what it looked like but was still there when we exchanged rooms.
The second room had foot prints on the inside of door & were still there when we left.

Wifi was not free which i cannot believe for a hotel claiming to be 4 star & if you wanted to pay was only avaliable in reception.

The food was ok but often cold & after a few days got very fed up with the same dishes day in day out.

Breakfast couldn't go wrong because could help yourself to full breakfast or toast & pastries.

Pool area was at a glance clean but take a closer look & it was very uneven & lots of tiles missing in & around pool.

Cannot believe also that AI does not mean you can use all the bars, the main bar at pool was help yourself around the back where could also get snacks , but would not risk it because had been out all day.

Got to say was so looking forward to this resort but was very disappointed with rooms because pictures you see in brochures are not what you get.

Room Tip: Upgrade to one of there sea front deluxe suites , its only way your get the 4 star room you think yo...

Simply wonderful! We stayed for one week and enjoyed every minute. The resort is immaculate and rooms so clean and comfy. The pools are superb for children of all ages and the choice of food is amazing. Our bungalow was literally one minute walk from the beach which is gorgeous sand and very shallow which was super for our 3 year old.

This is an excellent choice for those with young families, excellent villas with basic kitchen/bedroom/ separate living area and terrace with choice of self catering/BB/HB/AI. We opted for AI, food was excellent and definitely worth the money.
