“Relaxing break.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2009

We stayed here about 3 years ago as a couple before we'd had our son, it was reccommended to us by my Mum who had enjoyed a peaceful relaxing break here. We enjoyed our stay although did find it a little quiet but said if we ever had any children we'd take our first holiday here.

June 17th we took our first holiday as a family with our 9 month old. We booked flights and hotel separate as found it cheaper this way. We got a taxi from airport which was 10 euros. I was very impressed as they looked at our son and brought out the correct car seat for him to travel in to the hotel!

We had to wait for a room as we arrived at about noon, reception said the room would be ready in 20 mins but 20 mins later they said an hr and so it went on! I found the service at the reception terrible! You could wait and wait and wait and then they would serve soemone else before you! Room was as it was 3 years ago, so the furnishings were a little tired in some areas, curtains and sofa but not enough to bother us. We got a second key card and left the aircon on and the room never got below 24 but this was fine for us.

I will say that I agree completley with a previous review about the buffet. It has changed since the last time we were there. I get the feeling they have done the to cut costs possibly? 3 years ago there were 3 chefs available to cook you a fresh pasta or omelette on demand. This time there were 2 chefs but they had already done the omelettes which were waiting on a plate, pasta was the same all done separate under a heater for you to put together yourself. There was only 1 type of fish available - Hake everyday lunch and tea. I don't eat red meat so did struggle, however pizza were nice but not every day! I found the food wasn't labelled very well so had to get hubby to check most things out before I could try! We were half board so we ate 4 evening meals here and ate out 3 evenings. On the evenings we ate out we had lunch at the hotel as they will let you swap dinner for lunch.

Despite the food we had a fantastic first holiday with our son. The resort had everything we needed for him, he ate alsorts and ceratinly wasn't ever stuck for a meal!! I won't go on about how baby friendly it is but will say if your undecided and want to ask anything at all feel free to email us.

For what we needed we were very pleased with our holiday and felt pleased with ourselves that we'd managed a relaxing week away with our son. I think now we're feeling more confident we will pick somewhere else next time but I would reccommend this hotel to friends with kids but sure I would to our friends with no kids.

Good value for money, we got what we paid for.

We first went to this hotel 5 years ago and liked it so much that we returned the following year, and recommended it to other family members. However, we certainly will not be returning after our recent visit. We are shocked at how far standards have fallen in the time since our last visit. The food was the biggest disappointment - if you're happy with chips and pizza every night you'll be fine, but that is not what we would choose, nor what we would expect from our previous stays at this hotel. In addition please be aware that the hotel is currently being refurbished. We had to change rooms after coming back from the pool and finding the room next door being demolished with a pneumatic drill. However, we got the distinct feeling that the staff felt that we were making a fuss about nothing despite the fact that we couldn't stand in our room and have a conversation. Levels of cleanliness were not high - when we arrived the bin in our room hadn't been emptied, there were swarms of moths living in the hallways and a cockroach in the restaurant was trodden on by a waiter and kicked under a table. Probably the worst thing though was when one of the resident cats messed in a hallway. This was just left for people to walk through and still hadn't been cleaned up after 3 days. On the plus side, the weather was great and the holiday wasn't overly expensive. The entertainment staff try hard and the shows were relatively entertaining.

All in all we would say that if you're looking for Butlins in the sun then this is the place to go - the families there all seemed to be having a great time in the pool and the food was definately designed to appeal to British children. However, if you're looking for something a bit more sophisticated, or are basing your visit on a previous stay at this hotel we would suggest reviewing your choice.

Having read previous reviews, as with all these review sites you tend to get a mix of oppionions. Thus I will make my review as honest and accurate as possible and try not to be too negative.

Room - Great, clean, spacious with good views of pool and sea. Try and stay in upper floor of 2nd block.

Resort - Although the hotel is located right at the heart of the resort, the resort is very small and quiet. However sufficient to keep you busy for 10 days.

Food and Staff - Food, if you like pork and fish you will be very happy here, althogh I do like fish and pork, every day becomes a bit too much. Staff - On the whole very friendly and helpfull, however as a number of other have quoted, there are a number of waiting that are downright rude and in desperate need of not just customer service skills but actual people and life skills.

We caught the bus a couple of times to Rosario ( the capital of Fuertaventura) and that was very reliable and no issues. Also had a trip from the hotel to the water park in corralejo which is good, but not great.

We also walked to the atlantico shopping centre ( wot a waste of time, dont bother)

Facilities - Pools were great, gym was more than adequate for a holiday hotel.

In all a decent holiday, relaxing with superb weather.

We went on our 2 all inclusive week family break returning home 17th june and we would return in a heartbeat.reading some of the earlier reviews i think we must have been at a different hotel!
the staff were without exception friendly and helpful.
Our rooms were roomy with the biggest bed I have ever seen and a memory foam mattress.we had a lovely wrapped fruit basket on arrival in our room -very nice after the journey out.
the food was excellent in the restaurant with at least 3 meats , 2 fish and at least 4 types of potatoes loads of salad and fresh veg. Everything we read before we went talked about the mans dress code at night -whilst we were there (almost) everyone dressed properly , why is this a bad thing?the chefs were all obliging and at no time was there any demonstation of a lack of hygeine -quite the opposite. The restaurant staff work very hard but were always smiling and helpful.wine not consumed with your meal could be held over to the following meal so was not wasted.
The 3 pools were clean and the heated one was loved by the kids especially- more parasols would be good cos these were taken (mainly by english people by 8.30). The entertainment was outstanding with Billy ,Jordi and the team delivering fantastic family entertainment (lion king, grease and starlight express were particular highlights), they didn't take themselves to seriously but ensured a great night was had by all.The only downside was that only one staff member was taking orders in the entertainmnent area so there was sometimes a wait to order - we could have gone to the bar if we wanted- once ordered the hardworking waiters were very swift.
My final thoughts are that you learn about a place when you have problems and when our daughter was ill through the night and the following day, everyone from the night receptionist and security to our wonderful maid could not have been better -there was no hesitation in bringing clean linen and remopping our room-they were simply fab!
WE WILL BE BACK!!

My family and I (with 2 kids age 7 & 5) have just got back from the Barcelo at the weekend.
Review and some Tips:
This Hotel is literally 10 mins from the Airport so no need to worry about transfer times but if you have little ones with you i would recommend a taxi at a cost of about 10 euros, as you will be waiting about 30-45mins b4 your coach leaves the airport.
Once you get there they check you in pretty quick.
If you get there at dinner time and go? when you enter the restaurant you will be given a ticket after you have told them your room number and how many of you there are(men must wear trousers) leave this ticket on your table and they will come and ask what drinks you would like and mark it on the ticket! At the end of your meal you pay on the way out( if you are not ALLINC) watch out 2euros for a small bottle of coke!! Food is Pretty Good and varied but there was a couple of dodgy days with over cooked food and sloppy scrambled egg with reheated Brussels at breakfast(yes Brussel Sprouts for breakfast) maybe chef's day off??? plenty of fruit etc!!!

We upgraded to All inc 18 euros for adults and 9 for the kids(54 euros 4 r family of 4)!! Still umming and r ing if it was worth it!!
Rooms were clean but basic we stayed in block 2 over looking the kids pool and park, not much draw space for your clothes air con is pretty useless, temperature seems to be centrally controlled. TIP tear a piece of card and leave it in the slot where your card key goes while you are out it leaves the air con on and fridge! take out in the morning B4 maid comes!!!

Pools where big and the kids loved it! one heated.
Pool bar Ok... Take away food between 11am-1pm and 3pm-5pm. All inc drinks kept running out, and sometimes it took a while for the bar staff to top them up!!!
We enjoyed the entertainment very much... good in house team, Luigi, Jordi and not forgetting the guy's in the Kids club!!
Out and about at cala de fuste is pretty boring! Nice promenade but you feel it doesn't really lead anywhere.local bars have a british feel.Beach good but only went on it 1 day(Tidal) beware of trips very expensive, most days out 100 euros + but you can hire a car for 22 euros a day!!!
The area just seems unfinished!!!!
This Hotel is the best in the area though not the Castillo!!!!!!!

All in all We had a good time at this hotel came back relaxed and tanned, but I wouldn't go again. I just felt like i could be anywhere in spain!

Have just returned this morning from this hotel, which was recommended to us by a family member who is returning later in the year. Firstly, we could not fault the cleanliness, room was lovely, overlooking pool & beach but oh dear, do the waiting staff & bar staff need some lessons in customer care. We do not take advantage of the All Inclusive, but to be told at exactly 11 p.m. 'finished' was a bit much...especially given that people who were on Half Board (with no bracelets!) were helping themselves to the A.I drink & snacks in the Pool Bar without any question (incidentally you can only get a drink in the Pool Bar up to 6 p.m) there is no other bar open & the pool area is rather large so if you opt to stay other end, quite a walk! Also, I have never been to an 4* all-inclusive & not been able to take your drink from the restaurant to finish in lounge/outside..bottles of wine thrown away as not allowed to take out to finish. No drinks allowed to be taken to room....& no mini-bar other than 2 bottles of water on arrival unless you order & pay high prices. This sounds very negative, I don't mean it to be, we rarely complain but I know a lot of other guests felt the same, for the cost, not the best! Actually, friendliest people were the cleaners & gardeners. That said, we still had a lovely relaxing week, nice beach, met some nice 'guests' so all in all, good holiday, loved the Island but would not return to this hotel. Also, yes, very strict on men wearing long trousers for dinner but seems females can wear anything or practically nothing...strange!!
