We stayed at this hotel for 10 nights and had chose it for the golf and because it was 5 star. The hotel itself is fine with a lovely central courtyard. The reception staff were very friendly and competent and the bedroom was excellent. although the housekeeping was inconsistent. We enjoyed the golf and the pro shop staff were very efficient and accomodating. Now the bad news; the food was very poor as was the service,, especially in the breakfast dining room. On several occasions it was chaotic, with tables not being cleared (friends that we met actually cleared their table and reset it themselves) and several items of food running out each day due to not being checked. Adding insult to injury, we noticed dead cockroaches under tables on two separate mornings. We did book half board as we expected food at a 5 star hotel to be good, in fact it was poor. They did have a good starter buffet but main courses were disappointing to say the least, one eveining we had to send our meals back and on other occasions we used the starter buffet for both courses. It was obvious that the poor service in the restuarnts, bars and bedrooms was due to undersaffing as the staff that were present were very pleasant and hardworking. Due to the good weather, we spent plenty of time relaxing around the pool, but although the pool was advertised as being heated,, it was not and too cold to swim in..

Just returned from a lovely relaxing time at this hotel. The room was large and very comfortable with excellent bathroom. Large balcony with loungers although not all the rooms have this. The maid service was excellent. The public areas were elegant and very comfortable. Breakfast was excellent and there was always plenty of tables. none of the hustle and bustle of the larger hotels.
The views across the golf course were lovely. The pool area was peaceful but could have been kept a bit cleaner. Although a bit out of the way taxi fares were resonable and the complimentary bus service was hourly up to 9.20pm.
we ate in the St Andrews once and would not recommend. We were given a table when everyone who was on half board had eaten and ended up being the only 2 people there with the staff cleaning up around us. Food was not great, especially for the price. We ate at a steakhouse in town and the steak we had there was far superior for half the price. Drinks are equally as expensive here.
We found the staff to be helpful (although not in abundance). While it was free to use the gym there is a hefty extra charge for racketball and the sauna.
The was no issue with the golf side of things (which was very reasonable) and the staff here were most helpful.
This is not a 5 star hotel. The small luxuries that make a hotel 5 star did not live up expectation - the toiletaries were not replenished, towels were old and frayed, robes shrunken, the pool lounger cushions had seen better days and didn't look as if they'd seen a washing machine since last summer. It is however a very good hotel and for the peace, quiet, comfort and the golfing facilities we would definately return.

We have just returned from a two week holiday staying with friends at Elba Palace Golf. We all had a fabulous time from the moment that we were greeted on our arrival by the very welcoming manager and one of her staff from reception, until we very reluctantly had to return home on the last day.
Elba Palace is a very elegant hotel and we found the staff to be very friendly and most helpful and attentive. We were on a half board package and were very happy with the food and that we were able to order off menu when we wanted (with 24 hrs notice but no extra charge) The bedrooms and facilities within the hotel were of a high standard.
One word of warning ...as the name implies this is a hotel where golf is the predominant attraction .As a beginner I found the practice areas and driving range a real plus and I can't wait to book a return holiday to this very relaxing hotel.

Booked this hotel over the internet on December 14th for 7 nights in January, when we arrived at the hotel after a long journey we was advised that they had overbooked the hotel. The only explanation was that the reservation people had made a mistake even though I had an email confirmation from them on the 14th December.

We were sent to the Sheraton which was a nice hotel but the main reason for booking the Elba palace was because we like the smaller hotels were as the Sheraton is huge. I also wanted to access the Elba for a golfing trip with family and friends later in the year. As you may guess we will be booking another hotel.

My husband and I went to The Elba Palace to play golf and to have a relaxing break. The hotel is elegant, the rooms are large and beautifully furnished and always kept spotlessly clean. Our room had lovely views over the golf course to the sea. The pool area is very pleasant and the pool is heated. There are always plenty of loungers, and big, white fluffy towels are provided.
We went on a bed and breakfast basis and are so glad we did. On the night we arrived, we asked reception to book us a table in the restaurant and were told is was not necessary to book. So, at 7.00pm. we turned up and the waiter started checking his list and repeatedly asking for our room number. Eventually we were given a table at the very back of the restaurant. The service was slow, the food mediocre and the bill very large -75 euros for two courses and a bottle of wine. The following evening we decided that we would use the restaurant again but just have the buffet. The waitress who greeted us asked for our room number and proceeded to tell us off because we had not booked, although at reception they say it is not necessary! We were taken to a side room which had been laid out for two large groups and offered a table in the corner. We refused this, and were given a table by the door. It seems that those on half board are allocated a table on arrival, and it causes confusion if anyone who is not on their list turns up.Needless to say,we did not use the restaurant again!
Despite this, we liked the hotel enough to book an extra week, and again the management demonstrated their shortcomings by giving us our "leaving" form to fill in on the day we re booked. They also de activated our room keys.
The golf course is very good, and the staff involved with the golf are very friendly and efficient. We probably will stay at the hotel again because it is in a lovely location and is very quiet. However, we hope that next time we stay they will have improved their efficiency and made a lot of changes in the way the restaurant is run.

our golf trip was organised by elegant golf resorts and they cannot be faulted.when we got to the elba palace check in was quick, baggage was taken up by the porter and the room was lovely.so far so good-then it all went wrong.the food was not nice at all and after 3 days we wanted to move.elegant golf said there was no problem and could move us to the sheraton on monday but when we read the reviews from there it was as bad.the assistant manageress came to see us to tell us if there were any problems just to see her.how do you tell a pleasant lady like this that the food is awful and the service is just not 5 star?on our last day the 19th hole was packed-there were 2 staff only on duty so we gave up trying to get served and went into town for lunch, how this hotel has been classed as 5 star is beyond me.the only good thing was the golf
