Stayed here for 10 nights in May 2014 on all inclusive. We are a family of 2 adults and 2 older kids (11 & 14). It's clear a lot of money has been spent on the lavish reception area with all its marble and glass but unfortunately the same can't be said for the guest accommodation which is extremely tired and tatty - chunks missing from internal doors, a melted fridge top which made it a nightmare to open and close, cupboard doors which couldn't be opened without holding the entire sink unit up. There was no air con in our bungalow but in fairness I probably overlooked that in the description. The man at Reception was cheery at check-in but unfriendly any time you approached thereafter. The man at the pool bar was permanently miserable and seemed to resent giving you drinks. He virtually snapped at my daughter for adding her drink request onto the end of mine one day despite that only making 3 drinks in the total order! The snacks consisted of the same 3 things every day which we felt was poor and chips were 3 Euros even if you were on AI which seemed a bit of a con. The complex is spread over 3 separate blocks with reception and the restaurant buildings also situated separately - personally I didn't feel this was clear from the description and it might have bothered us if we had younger kids. The pool was absolutely freezing which was a shame because the slides and water play area were otherwise a great feature. The food was okay - not brilliant but certainly not bad. Unfortunately the restaurant seemed understaffed and at the busiest times it would run out of clean plates, cutlery etc. The 4 or 5 regular waiting staff who were there were very pleasant and worked tirelessly - on duty at breakfast, lunch, dinner and then clearing away at the pool bar at night!! They just didn't have the numbers to cope but tried admirably and could always manage a smile. The cleaning staff were also excellent - they came every other day and the bungalow was kept spotless and well stocked of towels etc. We had one instance of ants in the kitchenette and a cleaner immediately provided a large spray for us to keep and after one spray we didn't have any further probs. The 'entertainment team' consisted of 2 girls who made a decent effort with the kids games etc during the day but the evening entertainment was really quite poor - bingo and karaoke every other night with a few unspectacular acts dotted in between. On one occasion just the 1 girl was on duty meaning she had to announce stuff on the stage then run behind the scenes to put the music on then run back out! They really tried hard but again, a case of scrimping on staff I suspect. On the plus side, the resort is only a 10 minute stroll to the stunning beaches and main commercial area. It's a real shame more money hasn't been spent on updating the accommodation and investing more in staff as this could be a really great complex. Definitely not a 3.5 star in our opinion, more like a 2.5 or 3* at best but with definite potential and some positives.

We were very happy to have stayed here, the apartments were grand but ants were a problem, the press was covered in them and the wardrobes were the same.

Apart from that everything was perfect, its a nice walk to the centre and beach. Would stay again no problem.

The hotel was very clean and tidy, after booking through a package deal we had been recommended the hotel and thoughroughly enjoyed out stay, and the town, good night life and great for kids, meals on an evening were poor but good during breakfast and lunch

Despite some of the more negative reviews, we had a pleasant surprise. Friendly staff, comfortable accommodation (some re-decoration needed in places), plentiful and excellent food in the restaurant (basic but wholesome). Pool cold (but it was March-April) but we still went in! Evening entertainment varied catering for kids and adults, particularly loved the bingo and quizzes, also the reptile show and other acts. In a nutshell you pay for a cheap all-inclusive and you get what you pay for (and more if the weather is in your favour - which it was for us...) We would happily return to the Blue Sea Club Caleta Dorada.
