“Never again! Over booked - this is normal”
Reviewed 13 August 2014 via mobile

Arrived at 9pm with my wife and 2 tired children to be told by the lady on reception that the hotel was overbooked even though we booked months in advance... Asked to speak to the manager only to be told no manager here . "Don't worry you stay at another hotel for 3 nights and then come back here for 4 nights. This very normal for peak times , we do this every year" Had to then pay for a taxi to another hotel the broncimar which fortunately was considerably better. When we returned to la Tahona garden upsetting the children who had made lots of friends we realised at least 8 other families had also been shipped out to different hotels at the start of their holiday. La Tahona Garden is very basic . The food is shocking! Most lunch meals are reused in some form or another . Eg pork casserole for lunch becomes pork and sausage pasta for tea.. the food is usually cold and we ate out 3 times rather than suffer anymore... The only plus point Is the ice cream Is nice... The outside bar and pool area is nice and the sunbeds are locked up until 8:15 each morning stopping any struggles for beds.. The rooms are very basic but clean and the animation woman who is meant to entertain the kids does pretty much nothing . The worst kids rep ever! She would occasionally play uno with 3 or 4 kids if pestered and play the odd game of pool but that was it - no organising any games at all. We as a family are easy going and not fussy at all but the food was terrible and purposely over booking the rooms is not acceptable.... Never again . You have been warned.

We rented a couple of apartments at the Tahona Garden in Caleta de Fuste for ten days. I was a bit sceptical at first because the place looks a bit cheesy. However, the staff were great; the rooms were clean and the bar was stocked. There was an overbooking problem when we got there but they put us up at the hotel around the corner for a couple of days and took care of everything for us.

We really loved it and had a brilliant time at this place. We strongly recommend it as a very decent and friendly place to stay during your vacation in Fuerteventura.

There are a real mixture of reviews for this hotel and I would agree to an extent with all of them! The positives were that we had a great room overlooking the pool, an apartment in fact with a balcony. Comfy beds and very clean. Cleaned twice in the week we were there. Fuerteventura has cockroaches so it was impressive to see no evidence of them in the hotel. The staff were lovely, in particular Esperanza who never stopped smiling and Rosa, all worked tirelessly to help ensure our holiday was good. The pool was clean and had refreshing sea water. The food was delicious, if a bit unusual at times. We were offered veal liver at one mealtime! There was however plenty to choose from and we certainly never left hungry. It helped that we weren't fussy and we were willing to try unfamiliar foods. However, the chef did try to cater to the often British idea of chicken nuggets/pizza and chips so there was to fall back on if necessary! Air con wasn't needed as with the windows open and the ever present wind everywhere in the hotel was cool enough.Things to co side were that there were not enough sun beds and these were quickly bagged first thing in the morning. Although there were various rules around the hotel including not reserving beds with towels none of them were observed other than the rule stating no bare feet in the restaurant. However, there were enough table and chairs to use round the pool and we always got a vacated bed after lunch which still left plenty of time to sunbathe! There was a beach about 10 mins walk from hotel which was fine. The bar staff were friendly and made delicious cocktails as well as the usual coffees, teas etc. the pool is not big and it did get crowded every so often with people and inflatables. The only issue we had was the loud Muzak blaring from the bar morning, noon and night. As a couple of oldies we would have liked some peace and quiet or at least some decent music! All in all though what I would say about this hotel is that it is good value for the money paid. In other words you do get what you pay for and as a cheap all inclusive holiday abroad this suited us fine.

Room Tip: Ask for quiet apartment style room overlooking pool but no disabled access for upstairs or approach...

Reviewed 11 August 2014

Stayed here early August, 2014. Good points of holiday: weather great, Caleta de Fuste small but nice town, lovely promenade for walking, lots of restaurants, not enough bars though if you just want a drink. Certain female receptionists tried to be helpful and few English-speaking.

Bad points of holiday: food was utter crap every day, never had a decent meat dish all week, very bony and/or dried out, yoghurt lumpy, cereals poor quality, vegetables all looked like they had come out of a tin and sweetcorn/peas looked like they had already made an appearance earlier in the day and tasted like it, cucumber dried out, several times there were no glasses for a drink with dinner, likewise with cutlery, had to keep searching round for knives and forks to eat meals, became rather stressful, dining room had no air-con and was rather hot for eating. Puddings the same every day, with very sorry looking "Angel Delight" type sweets, past its best fruit, etc. Ice cream was ok. Drinks were all very low alcohol content, you could drink all day on spirits and not get drunk, small measures given at times and lots of ice. Tea time cakes were poor, sometimes croissants (with nothing on them), funny sweet and salty scones (with nothing on them), doughnuts (past their best) were on offer at the pool side bar. This, incidentally, was the only bar open, day and night, all night time drinks and "entertainment" took place in this bar, which was not very big and only had plastic chairs and tables. There was a small bar inside but this was never open, there were several settees around reception area where people often sat, usually kids playing games, quite a way from the pool bar. The only entertaiment we saw was the usual reptile show for photo opportunity and there was a bird show but we didnt stay for that, no groups or singers, there just wasnt any room to put them anyway. Apartment was adequately sized, kitchen area a waste of time, door hanging off and nothing at all in any of the cupboards, sink was useful as a second sink, thats about all. No air con, which made it hot at night, but apartment and the hotel in general was very clean and towels changed every other day, bedding once during week we stayed.

Upon arrival at around 20.15, we were allocated a room, which turned out to be over kitchen area, looking out over balcony to outside of kitchen area below and with a noisy extractor fan running, supplying area with food smells of whatever was cooking. We returned to reception and requested another room as we had stated "quiet room" on our booking, guy on reception who had very limited English said could do nothing tonight, come back tomorrow. We went back the next day and was offered another room to view, which happened to be directly under the one we had, so had the same defects (and another fan whirring round), which was no better than the room we'd got. We were told to "come back tomorrow" and they would see what they could do. My husband was fed up of living out of a suitcase with creased clothes, so we decided to stay in the original room and put up with it as had not much confidence of a successful outcome by this time. No one offered us another room, and the extractor fan was running 24 hours whilst we were there. Got the impression that the guys on reception didnt really care and had little English, often talking in a mixture of spanish/english/german and not making a lot of sense. We also tried to get a late check out as our flight was not until evening (come back tomorrow), we came back the next day and the lady on the desk said, no, it was impossible, they were fully booked, you had to be out by 11.00 a.m. Mentioned we had only arrived on the evening of the first day and this was still the last day of our holiday, but no, they were fully booked, they could not help us. They offered a bathroom for use so that we could freshen up before flying home, which was another farce, they allocated you a time for this, but when my time came, had to wait another half an hour plus to gain access to a bathroom with one sink, two grotty showers, only one of which had a shower head on, and a grotty toilet. Managed to get a shower of sorts before leaving hotel at 18.00, but the Ritz it was not. The receptionists also quite rudely discussed our issues in spanish with other receptionists in front of us, and you could tell the answer was going to be no by the way they were talking. The public toilets provided have got to be the smallest on record, the one by the pool bar (one toilet each for ladies and gents) was so tiny that when you shut the door you had no room to sit down and the floor was often wet, ? water or wee? used to go back up to apartment to use toilet there.

Generally speaking, would avoid this hotel, even if you get a good deal. We were charged almost 1100 £ for the two of us by Travel Republic for room, flights, transfer, insurance, for one week AI in apartment, booked back in May, other people had booked theirs last minute and paid around 600 £ (and got a better room). If you have got a problem here, dont expect to get anything done about it, dont expect to enjoy your meals and dont expect to get tipsy or be entertained at all by what is on offer here. Oh and hope you like white painted walls because they are everywhere.

Room Tip: Dont accept rooms 403 and 201 unless you want to hear and smell fans.

Not Good, on arrival told that the hotel was fully booked and we had to stay at caleta garden. We were not assisted by hotel staff to take our luggage to other hotel just pointed in the right direction. Reception staff did not seem bothered that we had to stay elsewhere and said they are legally allowed to over book by 5%. We were told to return the following day so we waited until midday thinking the room would be cleaned as a priority after the 11.00 check out only to be told we were 4 hrs too early. After some discussion with the reception lady she said we could store our luggage in their secure cupboard and gave us our wrist bands so we could make use of the facilities and the all inclusive package we'd paid for. Generally the all inclusive package was enjoyable although the food could have been hotter and despite having a pool bar and a lounge bar only the pool bar was ever open. Another 20 or so sunbeds around the pool and some glasses at least in the apartment would have been useful, although the apartment and complex was very pleasant we would not book here again due to the attitude to the over booking situation, especially as we were told that we only had to stay one day in caleta garden and some guest have previously had been put up elsewhere for 7 days.

I booked this hotel because of it being reasonably priced and it's mainly positive tripadvisor reviews however I was disappointed. I don't know why so many reviews state that it's good for the price! I would say it's overpriced for what it is. The food was quite poor and despite being full board, we choose to eat out every night to try and redeem some of our holiday.

Rooms were very basic with no storage as the wardrobe door was broken off it's hinges so could only be partially open. Fixtures were cheap and old fashioned and the whole place seemed kind of dingy. There was a fridge and cooker, yet the cupboards only contained 2 glasses so they were pointless.

The pool was nice but lacked any atmosphere that I've found in other hotels. There was no real entertainment bar one night when music was played exceptionally loud and some of the staff dressed up and danced at the pool!?!

Most of the staff were friendly and seemed to work very hard though.

In summary, I would prefer if I had paid more and stayed somewhere else!
