“Great Apartments”
Reviewed 8 June 2012

we stayed at this hotel in 2007 and it was lovely had everything you needed. I read a comment about it being noisy well i never heard any noise while i was there it was lovley. the only negative point was the 20minute walk to the main area but nothing really its a nice walk. Great rooms though we did seem to have a lot of flies but again not a problem really. Our room was at back of hotel with the balcony looking out on to the hills and we could also watch the planes taking off and landing but couldnt hear any noise from it. pool was veryvery cold but isnt every pool til you get used to it. hosts were lovely and friendly and good food. everything was clean and in good working order.
over all an enjoyable holiday!!
:)

Room Tip: try get a room at the back better view rather than a pool view!!

I have just had a two week stay at the above mentioned apartments. They are very clean and functional, very presentable.

The SWIMMING POOL area is very nice, but not huge. This is ok until such time as a ball starts flying around - at which point your chances of reading a book or having a doze are slightly limited. (Sure this problem wouldn’t be present outside school holidays).

The POOLBAR is very good with a good range of drinks and a limited range of food. I had a few snacks whilst there from pizza to omelette, sandwiches etc - and were all extremely good with obviously very fresh ingredients.

The LOCATION is about a 20 minute walk from the beachfront which is ok on the way out for dinner, but can be a pain on the return journey having had a dinner and drinks! What is frustrating is that you have to walk out of your way to reach the road to your apartments - basically if you could walk across the 'fields' you'd take 10 minutes from the journey. Contrary to some reports, you do not need a torch for this walk, it is lit.

The RESTAURANTS in Kamari are good, of course it's hit and miss like with anywhere in the world. Once you get bored of big meals, don't forget that a chicken kebab on the beach can be just as enjoyable, watching the dark of night set in.

The BUS SERVICE was excellent. The central point was Fira, so you have to go via there for most journeys. Fares are extremely cheap at around 1.40 euro’s for most trips, and this is on air conditioned coaches. Remember that you pay when you are on the bus – so just hope on and sit down. They pack these things full to the brim, so be prepared to stand for a journey here and there – but each trip is no longer that 15 minutes or so, so it’s ok.

OTHER TOWNS we visited were Oia for the sunset which was great, Fira for lunch and views etc. We also took the walk up the ‘zig zag’ road from Kamari to Perissa which was fun, if you like a tough walk to burn some of those holiday calories off. It took about 2 hours and required a supply of water and some decent footwear as opposed to flip flops.

DONKEYS IN FIRA. This upset me somewhat. I’m not an animal lover by any means; I don’t have pets and don’t want any. However, seeing the state in which those donkeys are kept is disgraceful. They are made to stand in piles of their own muck, with no sign of water or feed. When they are carrying passengers up the pathway from the bay, they are prodded with sticks or whipped with canes to keep them moving – sometimes when they seem to be moving anyway. It was just awful, and as it transpires costs 5 Euros per journey – the cable car costs 4 – so for gods sake take that instead.

The AIRPORT was fine – took seconds to get through it when we arrived, although on the return journey was notable of the lack of size and facilities when you have a two hour wait. But hey you’ve just been on holiday; keep cool and worry about what post you’ve got at home.

Finally – the local DOCTOR needed a visit as I developed a huge ear infection on the journey over. I went to the private doctor located next to the Kosmar / Blue Water office, near the square in Kamari (the one with book shop). The service was extremely good, friendly, all in good English, and saw me diagnosed and given prescription drugs fairly quickly. Hopefully you won’t need a visit – but just in case.

Santorini is a nice place, evidentially a lot of folk return year after year. I would go again, not necessarily stay at Angyra due to location and the fact it was quite noisy with one thing or another. The owners live here too which leaves it their home as well and have no issue with making noise until the early hours. Couple this with banging doors, dogs barking until late and from early – it’s not a place you can feel tranquility in.

The accommodation overall receives a 6 out of 10 from me with lost points due simply to location and noise.

  • Liked — Cleanliness
  • Disliked — The owners son treating the pool as if for HIS sole use, and annoying pretty much everybody.
