Our stay in Santorini was supposed to be 3 days... then 4... then 5. Such is the draw of this beautiful island.

We chose this hotel because of the TA reviews and reasonable price. We were not disappointed. It is indeed a small boutique hotel with a staff who care deeply for the happiness and comfort of their guests. I cannot begin to list the niceties we were afforded during our stay. All good. Wonderful people!

Our room was in the back of the hotel (3rd floor) --- which I recommend. You get a beautiful view of the mountain and countryside. There is one negative though. The hotel abuts a farm ---- which has a rooster who lets you know that morning is approaching. Not a big deal for us. And each night we went to bed with our patio doors wide open ---- to enjoy the cool Aegean night breeze.

Also of note, the hotel's hot water system is taxed a bit between 9 & 10 AM. Probably because of everyone rushing to shower at the same time.

Room Tip: Back for quiet and view. Front for socialization and pool view.

It may not be immediately apparent as to why this hotel is the very best. The rooms are a good size, comfortable beds and air conditioned. The pool isn't huge but there are very comfortable sun beds offering shade or sun positions. The breakfast is OK but is the same every day. Spend a little time with Aggi and Dimitra and you will soon find out why the reviews are excellent! You feel like you are being given the privilege of joining their family for the duration of your stay. We have travelled extensively and never had customer service like this. Santorini is one of a very few places that we would return to. Hotel 28 will be the top of our list when we do. Forget about the beachfront and have the experience of a lifetime.

Room Tip: avoid ground floor room opposite pool WC

Where to start? The hotel is a very pleasant boutique hotel, the rooms are very clean, there is little visual clutter with the proportions making it feel roomy and pleasant. The sink is in the bedroom rather than the on-suite which is unusual but not off putting and the double bed was two large singles pushed together- usually a pet peeve of mine but travelling as a family I didn't find that a bother. The pool is a pleasant place to while the day away and the bar does a decent range of food.

All of that is background to the lovely people who run the hotel. I'd say it was excellent customer service but that wouldn't quite cover it. Our one year old took a shine to the girls who would happily pick him up for a cuddle. They were interested in what we were doing and gave us tips on what to do there- hiring cars, booking boat trips or making restaurant reservations for us- nothing was a problem. Stellios took real pleasure in chatting to the baby when we got back from days out and even presented him with a souvenir t-shirt. A lot of 'customer service' is calculated to make a good impression but I came away feeling very much as if the team were just genuinely caring, friendly, outgoing people :) I'd love to go back.

Whichever way you look at Hotel 28 you find surprising angles, shadows and images that settle the mind and allow you to sink into your holiday.

Where are we?
Some Greek island..... Oh yes Santorini - at the foot of ancient Thira.

Before we go any further let's hear it for the Santorinian immigration service and 'probably the best passport control' for arrivals that we've experienced so far!
Why check what's already been checked 4 times before!

Aggi's infectious laugh is ever present during the day.
Dimitra is calm and 'cool'. Both are always interested in what your plans are for the day.

Rooms simple and functional.
You could wish for a wider doorway into the shower and a bidet but why not make do?
Breakfast is okay but would benefit from some variety but this is easily overlooked due to the welcome you receive every morning from our hosts.
The food served at the pool has a simple elegance and cafe culture served in tin cups (Souvlaki) and oven tins (Burgers). The chips are wonderful!
Nespresso coffee is served!
The cocktails are excellent.
Definitely not intended as an encouragement to over indulge.

A popular destination for weddings Hotel 28 hosts its fair share of extended families.
Lying here on the expansive sun beds or on the floating beanbags in the pool it's easy to wish it wouldn't end.
The organised trips are good and get you around the island and thanks to Kim, our very informative guide.
The sunset at Oia is worth the trek if only to watch the watchers!
The Caldera is simply magnificent and you get to see it from many different viewpoints.

Back to the hotel and a welcome by the girls Aggi, Dimitra and Dora and a well-earned beer by the pool.

Eating out at one of the 78 restaurants in Kamari can be a bit of a lottery but there are some gems out there. Almira and Elia are but two. Don’t always trust the ratings on Trip Advisor!
Then when you return late in the evening you are met but the smiling face of Stelios who loves his football and does a great impression of Ronaldo crying!

And when we left to come home it felt like we were leaving family...

Facilities maybe 3 star but the service, welcome and individual touches are 5 star.

The acid test has to be 'would you come back?'
The answer is........guess!

This was our 3rd year at the 28 Hotel & yet again it was fantastic!!!!.
We were there for our daughters wedding which was made very special by the wonderful staff & other guests at the hotel.
All the Staff are absolutely amazing Argiro takes care of breakfast with her infectious laugh & warm friendly smile, Dimitra looks after reception she is very friendly warm & helpful.
On the bar we have Dora a new addition to the 28 team who serves excellent cocktails & Metaxa/Coke. ( keep up the good work Dora.).
In the evening there is another new team member Stelios he can't do enough for guests always on hand to help.
We had our 20 month old granddaughter with us & all the staff were brilliant with her.

Now about the hotel it is spotless due to the hard work of the cleaners - always on the go. The breakfast area is very pleasant & peaceful, basic Greek fayre including breads, cheeses ,meats & Greek yogurt etc. - all lovely & fresh.

The pool area is very clean & comfortable it has double sun beds (very nice) there is also a nice area with tables & chairs where you can enjoy food from the unsung hero of the hotel the chef, his food is delicious try the Chicken Linguine or the Chicken Souvalaki and tasty chips - infact everything we tried was gorgeous. All dishes are served in a modern funky way.

The rooms are very clean and comfortable and everything you need for your holiday in them.

Are there any negatives about this hotel ? Absolutely not !
Are we returning in 2015 ? Most definitely.
If you're thinking of booking this hotel for 2015 - then don't dilly dally - it books up fast !! All because of the hardwork the 28 team do.

My husband, myself and two friends stayed the 28 Hotel, as soon as we arrived we were greeted with a warm welcome from the lovely ladies who run the hotel, Aggie and Dimitri~we were shown to our room which was very comfortable. Breakfast each morning was enjoyed whilst sitting semi outside enjoying the sunshine, there was a good choice and it was a great start to the day. The Hotel pool and stone sun loungers with cushions were very comfortable and there were plenty to go round, the poolside bar was very convenient for a nice drink or spot of lunch. The Hotel was conveniently situated with everything close by, unfortunately we never got to try a meal in the sister Hotel situated nearby but while we were there heard it was very good by other holiday makers, would love to return to Santorini one day and would definitely stay at the 28 Hotel again.

Room Tip: Our Mountain view room was great for relaxing on the balcony early evening.

From the moment we arrived we were made very welcome. The whole hotel is absolutely spotless and our bed was the most comfortable hotel bed I think I've ever slept in. The staff, Agi, Dimitra, Dora (the bar) and Stelios (night porter) were all amazing, so friendly and helpful. Agi's laugh is the most infectious I've ever heard and Dora mixes a very serious Long Island Iced Tea (not on cocktail list). A very happy holiday, it is the people that make a hotel. My only small criticism is that breakfast could be more interesting. But that does not damage a brilliant memory.

Room Tip: Try for a pool view ground floor room.
