We booked our holiday with Thomsons and paid extra to make sure of a sea view double room. On arrival the room was not available and we were shown to a superior room at the back of the hotel which was large but not what we booked. Next day we were moved at lunch time to another room with a sea view, but this was very small in comparison. On most days Reception were dealing with similar complaints of people having booked but not getting the room they had booked.
Breakfast was o.k. and the coffee was good.
Ate in the dining room once only, buffet service.
Pool area nice size next to the sea front, but not any sun beds after nine to nine thirty unless you reserve one before breakfast . Snack bar good and well organised.
Hotel seem to operate a policy of over booking. Wouldn't rush back.

2 weeks in june 08. Economy room, small but ok , bit tired, air con good, better rooms available. Courtyard good, reception good. Lounge needs air con. Clean and tidy everyday. Pool area (big +) great, right on seafront, good size pool, get a sun bed before 9.00, or, throw German towles in pool!! Not too many kids in june although many 1/2 day island hoppers. great base for a chill out and views holiday, staff helpful , mix of guests. Breckie = contie + bacon /saus' rotated daily. You can eat out at a different place every day, (no need for 1/2 board) on the front, or cheaper on the back roads. All hotels seem pretty much the same and i was told a monopoly of around 4 families run most on the sea front. There are some nicer hotels towards the mountain in kamari, but space is at a premium so take your pick! great place to chill out not much for kids although bar man in hotel says it does get busy in august ! enough bars etc for 2 weeks Buy some gold whilst here!! Enjoy Santorini we will come back!

My daughter and I just returned from a 15 day trip to Greece, visiting Athens, Mykonos, Santorini, & Crete. We used Euro Plus Travel to book all of our lodging and excursions. They did a fantastic job!
We were met at the port and were taken to Kamari Beach Hotel by bus. We were dropped off (as mentioned in a previous guest's review) at the corner behind the hotel, which was not clearly identifiable (nor is it on the beach side). We finally found our way to the front desk and got checked in. Staff was friendly enough. Our room was 102 and I would not reccommend this room for the following reasons: 1. the french doors open to a small playground, surrounded by 4 exterior hotel walls. Not very scenic! 2. since this is a first floor room, and since there is no carpet on the floors, every time the lady above us scooted a chair across the floor, or walked in her heels (which seemed to be often, we heard it loud and clear. Oh, and if you're in the bathroom and someone in the room above happens to be sick and throwing up, you will hear that as well. The rooms are not sound proofed.
The food was o.k., though we felt the 15 euro/person buffet was WAY over priced.
We did find a very nice and reasonably priced place to eat not far from the hotel. If you exit on the beach side of the hotel, turn left, and go several blocks until you get to the Mango Bar. Take another left, and Dolce Cafe will be on your right. Good food, good price! Also the Oxygen Internet Bar is the best place to use the internet. It is only maybe a block from the hotel.
The pool area is nice.
We would not stay at Kamari Beach Hotel on a return visit to Santorini.

Just returned from a week at the Kamari Beach booked as part of a package with Thomson. Very similar experience to previous reviewer as we were allocated a dingy room near the back of the hotel and paid to upgrade it - well worth it! We really liked the hotel, it is clean and comfortable and well located on the beach in Kamari. Our upgraded room (114) was spacious and had a balcony with great view over the sea and the mountain and newly done bathroom.
All the staff were friendly and the pool area is great, as is the outside breakfast area.
The few things we didn't like were the breakfasts (orange squash instead of juice, tinned rather than fresh fruit and bacon fat in the scrambled eggs, although coffee and bread were nice) and the music played in the bar - instead of the Ibiza chill out music in most places this was a strange mix of Bob Marley, shouty R&B and 80s cheese! This all has it's place but as our room was just above the bar it got a bit tiresome.

Despite what Thomson tell you about their trips being more expensive because of peace of mind etc, we were not keen to pay top whack for all you can eat and drink, so we went on the locally organised boat and volcano trip for 24 rather than 49 euros each and hired a car from the holiday autos place just behind the hotel for half the price of the Thomson / hotel price.

Fira and Oia are must do places and we really enjoyed the walk round from Fira to Firostefani and the walk from Kamari over the mountain to Ancient Thira and down the other side to Perissa. Hot though!

All in all a very enjoyable holiday, Santorini is beautiful and the Kamari Beach hotel is a good budget option to get some beach time, leaving us with a bit more cash to have meals and drinks watching the sunset over the caldera.

Have just returned from a week at the Kamari Beach Hotel. I have to say that Santorini is a stunning destination albeit an expensive one.( 1 large beer and a vodka and lemonade 10.00 euros). Although meals were much more reasonable and the local wine cheap and very good.
When eating in kamari the eateries off the promenade offer much better value and I can highly recommend The Byzantia .
On arrival at the hotel were dumped off the coach on a road behind the hotel with a wave of a very disinterested hand from our tour company rep ( Thomsons) saying it was "down there" .Two couples actually went into the wrong hotel as there was no clear signage .
We checked in at reception and were given our room key ( No. 26) and went to fin our room.
We found what I can only describe as a dingy semi basement room with virtually no natural light, a bed about 8 inches off the floor, faded bed linen and ripped upholstery .
Whilst I realise we had booked a 3 star hotel this room was only worthy of 2 stars at a push. I returned to reception along with another couple and was shown a marvelous room overlooking the pool and beach which we took at a cost of £140.00 euros for the week.
My point is that most of the information available about this hotel(including our tour operator) talks about rooms refurbished in 2007. This is not the case. the second room had been and was of a good standard but not the first.
So beware when you are booking you need to ask for a sea view, these are the refurbished rooms but will cost you a premium.

We stayed at the Hotel Kamari beach for two weeks in early October, 2007 and had a wonderful time. We found a terriffic low-season package deal from Thompsons that included a double room (the packaging makes the price of the hotel difficult to isolate, but I would put it at approx $100 (USD)/night).

Early October is an excellent time to see Santorini. There were still other people around, but it wasn't crowded, prices were lower, and the weather was still wonderful (we had two days that were slightly windy, but nothing that stopped us from going to the beach). By our second week, we started to notice that some of the hotels/restaruants/stores were starting to close down. Many of the waiters and other people we met lived in Santorini seasonally (for work) and were just about to return to their families in other places. That second week was still absolutely wonderful, but I am not sure that Kamari Beach is all that hospitible in the second half of October.

Where to stay in Santorini: If you are visiting for only a few days, you should probably spend the extra money and stay in the hotels along the Caldera -- it is too beautiful to miss. If you are staying for more than 3-4 days, however, I think it is better to stay at the beach and visit the Caldera a few times to see the sunset. They have inexpensive busses that depart for Fira every half hour. The two best beaches to stay on are Perissa and Kamari. Kamari is more developed, but Perissa is also nice. Be advised, however, that Perissa closes down a bit earlier in the season and by the first of October it is pretty much deserted. There is a shuttle boat that ferries passengers between Perissa and Kamari (4 EUR/person one way). It departs every 45 minutes or so starting at 10AM and makes it very easy to spend time at both beaches.

We enjoyed our room at the Kamari Beach Hotel. It was perhaps a bit sparse, but very functional. The bathroom is a bit small, but very manageable. The King-sized bed was actually two small twin beds pushed together and made up as one. The TV had one English channel (BBC World), plus one of German, French and Spanish. In the evening, the Greek channels would usually carry some American shows or movies in English (with Greek Subtitles). Our room had a nice balcony -- facing away from the beach, but with a nice view of the road up the mountain to Ancient Thira. We did find that the towels were a bit worn and the beds were a bit hard.

Breakfast was simple, but fine, consisting of fresh breads, cakes, Greek yoghurt, fruit, cheese, scrambled eggs, OJ, cereal and tiny little hot dogs. Waiters brought as much coffee as you want. The environment was pleasant; guests eat outdoors on the patio.

As other reviewers have mentioned, the pool (and its bar) is one of the great assets of this Hotel. It is the largest pool in Kamari Beach and the large patio section has plenty of space both in the sun and in the shade for laying out and reading. The bar is convenient, but a little bit expensive.

The hotel is located right on the beach and right on the beach promenade, which is excellent for dining, shopping and strolling. Kamari tours (and an ATM) was right next door to the hotel.

During our stay the guests seemed to be about half German, half english and tended mostly to be 50-65, although there were a few younger couples and parents with young families.

Overall the staff was friendly, the location was excellent, and we felt we got good value for our money. I would stay again and would recommend this hotel.

Great location, older place with very nice pool. Hotel is ageing and needs updating. rooms good size but not enough furniture in the room. Shower leaks. Not worth the 95 euros we paid.
