“Stunning Boutique Hotel”
Reviewed 13 March 2012

My husband & I travelled here in late May early June 2011 with our 2 children age 2 and 12. We were very worried after reading other tripadvisor reviews that it would be very honeymoon like and that we would feel uncomfortable with the little one, however we had nothing to worry about. The hotel itself was stunning. Small with friendly staff & beautiful trailing flowers from balconys. At night they lit hundreds of big candles & lanterns & dotted them all over the property which made it very beautiful & romantic. Our room was comfortable & spacious with a balcony and private roof terrace with hot tub. Maid service was excellent with clean towels etc minimum daily sometimes twice daily. There were lots of little children our ones age of 2, and they all played together in the baby pool which was next to the main pool while the adults lounged in the sun chatting. The hotel also had a small playroom we only discovered on the second last day! There were only 3 high chairs but the other guests and us were all super good at waiting & rotating!! The breakfasts were amazing you could live on them all day. The hotel was ideally suited right near the main restaurants. Couldnt fault it. Just down the road form the hotel is a hidden gem, a restaurant by the name of Mamma Mia's It looks a bit like a tacky cafe from outside!!!! But when its lit up at night it is actually really pretty. Some friends told us to try it as its apparently the place to eat if you like fresh fish. The owner will basically make you anything to eat, haggle the price & throw in free wine & kids drinks. Its a 1/4 of the price of anything on the main strip and fabulous especially the catch of the day. The local bus service is easy to use for visiting the capital etc. If i had to pick a negative i would advise people not to drink at the hotel bar. Its enchanting, especially at night but the drinks and ice creams etc are more per glass than you pay for a half carafe on the front. There were lots of weddings on while we were there which my daughter who is 12 found enchanting! It wasnt noisy & didnt detract from anything as everyone was really nice, Santorini doesnt attract the kind of british tourists some other greek islands get bad press for!!! A first class holiday at a first class hotel.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the pool.

Myself and my partner stayed at the Tamarix in July 2011 - I really should have got round to writing this review earlier! It truly was the best holiday we have both ever been on and the best hotel we have both ever stayed in! On arrival we were immediately upgraded for no reason, they simply had the room spare, we were greeted with a welcome drink by the pool area and we knew then we were in for a treat of a holiday as we were dazzled by the gorgeous hotel. The staff were delightful, always willing to help with a smile on their face. Breakfast was served until late which was an added bonus and there was lots of choice for any tastes or appetites! On the occasional days we would even be brought a plate of watermelon while we were lounging by the pool without having to ask which was a lovely gesture made by the hotel staff. The room service was also very good and we wee very often offered new towels twice a day! The hotel is literally a 2 minute walk to the beach and is in no way challenging to get to, even my partner liked the beach (he is not a fan) as it was a black beach mainly made of pebbles and sand. The restaurants that lined the beach also served fantastic meals - we didn't once have a bad meal and the ice cream from the little cafe on the corner as you go down to the beach made ice cream to die for! DO NOT LISTEN to the myths that Santorini is over priced and expensive! Kamari is especially not to eat out in - all our meals were reasonably priced if not cheaper than we expected. However do allow yourself more money eating out in Oia. A visit to Oia is truly worth it though and do not miss the sunset - it brought a tear to my eye looking out over the crowds of people gathered to watch! Visit Kamari tours on the beach to sort out any excursions or trips.
Tamarix del Mar made us fall in love with Santorini so much so that we are considering getting married over there and we will be sure to go back as soon as possible! We truly were spoilt by Santorini and Tamarix - pure relaxation in the sunshine!

The Tamarix Del Mar is one of the best Greek Hotels and lives up to its stars. We had a junior suite on the ground floor, very spacious and kept immaculatly clean. All the rooms surround the pool and there are no problems with sunbeds although most people try to get the ones outside their own terraces. As mentioned before the staff are exceptional so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble for them.
The hotel is a short walk to the beach on the way passing restaurants. I would thoroughly recommend Byzantia which is next to No Name, they always try to get you into this one and consequently you miss Byzantia but it is family run by a lovely young couple and the food is excellent reasonably priced and good friendly service. We ate a couple of times on the sea front but after pestering to get you in the service is then poor.

I would also suggest walking up the zigzag road to Ancient Thira best after 5.30 as no vehicles are then allowed.

I would certainly return to Tamarix Del Mar

Visited Tamarix del Mar between 20 September - 4 October and it lives up to the reviews that have been written previously. The hotel is small and all the rooms overlook the pool. The rooms are all decorated differently and are of a high standard compared to others on the Greek Islands. At breakfast there was a good selection of food. Staff all very friendly especially Georgia. The hotel was in a good position close to restaurants and the beach. Some of our favourite restaurants were Sellado,YaMas and Petrinos. Hope to return some time in the future. One of the best holidays ever. Pete and Chris Taylor [Grimsby]

The Tamarix del Mar is an immaculately kept small hotel set back from the front at Kamari.

We arrived early evening and were welcomed in reception by friendly and helpful staff who checked us in immediately and showed us to our room. We were allocated a ground floor junior suite. We could not fault the cleanliness of the room and they have all facilities to hand. The junior suites consist of a living room area with tv, dvd and cd player and a small off-set alcove kitchen with 2 ring hob and fridge. The kitchen also had a set of cutlery and various items of crockery and pans which is useful if you want to prepare snacks etc. (I did not make use of the kitchen other than to chill the wine in the fridge - we had to pop to the supermarket and buy a bottle opener and while we were there found some very good rose wine at 2 euro a bottle - and keep the bottled water cool - my idea of a holiday is to do very little !) The bed is situated in a raised area with the bathroom off it and the air conditioning unit is positioned above the bed (works well and is effective). The wardrobe space is adequate and there is a safe located in the wardrobe - no payment required - the key is in the safe door on arrival. There is a shortage of drawer space and hangers (if you are ultra tidy and like to unpack and put everything away) but there is an ironing board and iron available. The bathroom is spacious and there is a range of toiletries available as well as a hairdryer - the only problem we experienced was that sometimes after we had both had a shower the small drain in the floor backed up and on one particular occasion soaked the bath mat. There is a never ending supply of clean (if slightly rough) towels (dry yourself carefully with them if you happen to have sunburn !) and the housekeeping staff come late in the afternoon to see if you require any more towels ! The housekeeping staff inparticular deserve a mention - the rooms are very well kept during your stay. The pool area is pretty and clean and tidy and sun towels (free of charge) are available by the pool bar. There is a table tennis table which I did not see anyone use. I felt the area could have been better utilised with further tables, chairs and umbrellas for the bar. The sunbeds are very close together (don't sneeze or you may blow your neighbour off their bed) and not all of them have sun shades/umbrellas available and sometimes this led to "booking" beds.

Breakfast is served in the breakfast room accessed of reception or from the pool area. There are a limited number of tables and despite breakfast being served until late morning, most guests seem to want to breakfast at the same time. There are a couple of external tables but unfortunately there is no shade. The food at breakfast includes all the usual fare and is freshly cooked and plentiful absolutely no complaints.

This is a lovely hotel and I would not hesitate to recommend it or stay here again.

There are a lot of places to eat in Kamari. There are several on the road surrounding Tamarix and an even bigger choice if you wish to run the gauntlet of waiters promoting their establishments on the way down to the front (I found this understandable, if not a bit wearing - and no restaurant particularly worse than the others). We found that they pretty much all served the same food but the quality and service were better some places than others. We particularly enjoyed Atmosphere (upstairs on the balcony watching the world go by). The food was delicious - a little bit different although slightly more expensive.

The climb up to Ancient Thira is worth it and also a visit and walk around the caldera - the scenery is stunning.

Getting around the island is very easy and cheap on the local bus.

All in all a great holiday in a lovely hotel on a stunning island and we will definitely be back.

We stayed at the Tamarix from the 13th-27th September, to celebrate our wedding. We had a fantastic time. Santorini is a beautiful island and the Tamarix is a fantastic hotel. We stayed in a suite, with a jacuzzi on the balcony, and these were lovely. They feature a small kitchen area with fridge and a 2 ring hob, table and chairs and a lovely sitting room with flat screen tv, dvd player and cd player. The staff are brilliant and cannot do enough for you. The night before my wedding my friends stayed with me, which wasn't a problem, and were even provided with breakfast, free of charge in the morning. They also decorated the staircase outside our room and our door with bows and ribbons, which was lovely, and on our last night we came back to find champagne in our room. The hotel is in an ideal location, about 5 mins form the beach, shops, restaurants and tavernas. We will definately be returning to the hotel, hopefully next year.

Just come back, fantastic, superb, clean, relaxing, nothing too much trouble hotel. We'd booked an upgrade but on arrival was upgraded to one of the top suites, with sun terrace and jacuzzi. The staff are so friendly, helpful and informative, special mention to Georgia (and Dimitri behind the bar). Given the position of the hotel, close to the beach and all amenities this stunning island is perhaps one of our best holidays. Breakfast was so relaxing, the choice and quality of food was exceptional, will be returning. It also helps that we booked with Thompsons, the whole experience inc. Ellie the rep was fantastic.

Room Tip: Pay for an upgrade as you may not always get an automatic upgrade.
